Just Cause 2 Demo Impressions - 360/PS3/PC

Can't start the demo.

At the main screen, I press start then I want to press O to start the demo, but nothing happened.

My Japanese PS3 does not bother with O/X button to confirm but in this first time ever case: O isn't working (even if it's on scree " press O to start " and X does nothing. Start does not work.

How do I play the demo if O doesn't START IT ?!

I think you have to press both at the same time or something.

Also: Reposting my video for new page:

Playing the PC version.. have to say, it looks beautiful on my setup. I have performance issues with 4xAA in game, so I'll probably try to force it in CCC. Is it recommended I force 16x Aniso too instead of using the in game settings? I'll probably do a comparison with FRAPS to check, but something is definitely wrong causing a stutter.

I already posted about this a couple pages ago.

You have to press X and O at the same time. For some reason the developers didn't think about what would happen if someone that's not from Europe or the Americas tried to play their game. Idiots... (other than that, the game is awesome).

Don't force AA in this game, use the ingame settings. If you're having performance issues disable SSAO (it looks like shit anyway), turn object detail down to igh/medium and shadows to medium (you can leae the high res. shadows setting on).

From what you guys played, what do you think about the game in comparison to the first Just Cause?
Infinitely better. The first game was held back by the last Gen systems.

is there a way to display the altitude in game?

Don't think so, I've just been putting a waypoint marker on the ground. That will tell you how high you are when you fly above it :D

One thing, you can totally negate falling without the parachute if you just grapple something when you're landing, even if it's the roof of a building. I think, at least it worked for me when i tried it, anyone else?

Yeah you don't need to use the parachute to slow yourself at all, just grapple the ground when your close to it.

You can even grapple onto movable items without getting hurt, somehow.

Wasn't it posted earlier in this thread that in game AA is broken / effecting performance? Or where they just referring to SSAO? (which I have disabled already anyway). Thanks for the suggestions. If there isn't a large noticeable drop in quality with those changes, I'll give them a go.

What exactly is SSAO?

Also, thought so about the grappling. It's like jumping off something tall in Mario and butt slamming the floor to negate the fall.

Yeah, that was me. The in game vsync and AA destroyed my framerate. Nothing else seemed to have any effect. I'm using a 5850/i5 750.

Same here on my JP PS3. The problem is, pressing X and O works only to simulate pressing X. Unfortunately there's still no way to simulate pressing O, so you get through the menus but not back and in the game itself you're left without melee fight, stunt jumps and other functions. This makes the game nearly unplayable for me as u miss most of the fun.

I remember there was kinda the same problem with Silent Hill. I had the US Version on my JP PS3 and X and O were switched in a way that some scenes forced you to completely restart the game because you couldn't return from certain screens. Hope it's gonna be fixed in the final version of Just Cause 2, cause the games looks pretty fun actually.

Second video was fun to watch. Splash was pretty inadequate, though, not to mention anti-climactic. In real life, a person bellyflopping into an ocean from even a fraction of that distance would be beyond dead.

But damn, if it wasn't awesome.

Can you imagine if someone integrated JC2's tech with that Go-In-Any-Building-Destructible-Environment tech showcased at GDC 2009 (or 08' it may have been. Details escape me, I'm sure someone else knows what I'm talking about)?

I already can't wait to see JC3 and what other developers might be able to do with this engine.

Am I the only one who thinks this game looks stunning? At least that's what it seems like from all the videos I've seen.

Games like this make me wish I could get online with my 360 :\ I'll definitely pick it up Day 1, though.

I think the game looks great when you're high up in the air looking down at the massive world. When you're at ground level, not so much. For an open world game it looks pretty great, though.

The SMG is pretty damn powerful once it's upgraded to 4 stars. I was taking out enemies almost instantly when I was playing the demo earlier.

why is the cutscene in the demo so bad? The rest of the game is beatiful so i don't get it.

They can't do everything at 100% with a game this size. Impossible to expect it. After playing the 30 minutes or whatever of the demo I'll be there day one.

Man I don't know what to make of this game. It's just really crazy and wacky.:lol

The vehicle physics are all sorts of weird. It's odd when you hit someone on a motor bike and it's like bumper cars.

I can't believe this game. Its so improved over the original.

I just canceled my God of War 3 pre-order for this instead. Gods help me, but I am a sucker for open worlds just littered with gameplay toys and junk. That and I think I'm kindof hooked *drumroll* on the grapple and parachuting.

Driving seems to remind me of GTAIV, but a tad looser. It gets better the faster you go (the tighter control of the vehicle). But yeah.

And those fuckin guards always shooting out my tires...

i wonder if its too late for this game to tighten the driving mechanic.

then again this is a vertical game.

I know what you meant, but that's all I can think of when someone says they need to "tighten" something up in a game. :lol

I'm usually a stickler for playing series in order, and I liked what I played of this demo - so is it worth me tracking down the original, or will it *hurt* me?

I like the driving mechanic. It's fun to mess around with, and flipping a car off a cliff and bouncing down the mountain is pretty fun. And for all you haters: yeah, I absolutely adored GTAIV's driving. I used to spend hours on the airport runway ramping off the small yellow signs just to see what damage they'd cause to my car.

looks like this game is in every way superior. skip the first

Wow. That is aggressive stuff.

Weird, I tried skydiving into the same lake as that video and I died on impact. Maybe I was going too fast.

The sequel is better in every way. The only reason to play the original at this point is if you want a comparison point to see how much has improved. But I wouldn't pay more than about $5 for it or put any significant time into it. The story is really forgettable, too.

Actually, changed my mind back. Pre-ordering GOW3 and using the $10 credit on this one.

Its still not the Mercenaries 2 I've always wanted - that'd be a much harder, much more tactical game than this. But what this game does have is pick up and play fun, exploration, and experimentation, which is nice way to relax.

Has anyone tried tethering a car/plane to one of the large helicopters, lifting it as high as possible then releasing it and try to chase it down and get in it? they seem to just disappear into thin air after falling a short while :(

I downloaded the PS3 version. I haven't played any Lost Cause game before so I tried it thinking it would not be that good. But after like 10 mins of playing = wow. I had a lot of fun with the demo.

Hookshot enemy and shoot them for juggle combo!

Has anyone managed to see nighttime on the PS3? I swear the other day I died with like a minute left on the timer and somehow I started with another 30min. That's when I saw the sunset and night (which is real nice btw).

So yea, there's definitely a way to extend the timer another 30min, but I can't figure out what I did.

That's stupid. You get a $15 credit for Just Cause.
