It's not a mobile game.
XIII and XIV 1.0 happened.
That's Minecraft though. A new ip on the Wii u beating it is more shocking. Not a good excuse when there's a Vita game that has sold betterand a bunch of Wii U games.
It actually isn't so crazy now I think about it.
Pokemon Sun and Moon - Only on 3DS
Final Fantasy XV - Most sales potential was on PS4
DQ11 is launching on three different systems and it will no doubt so well on all of them. FFXV+Pokemon S&M combined is a high benchmark but it's also not impossible. If anything it can beat them in Japan.

DQ is indeed way bigger than both in Japan.
I expect over 2.5m at launch across PS4 & 3DS.

There are a few factors consider here.
1) The Japanese console/traditional handheld market is shrinking
2) Dragon Quest doesn't have the mindshare with the younger generation that it has had with older ones
3) Dragon Quest's popularity remains with older generations who may be more likely to buy more than one version of the game
4) They will release the Switch version a while after the initial PS4+3DS launch, which will result in some sort of sales boost
Combining all of these, I think the prediction is not completely outrageous, but it'll be really interesting to see how Dragon Quest fares considering #1 and #2.
Look man I am excited about DQ11 too but there is no fucking way it sells more than both of those combined.
One or the other maybe in lifetime sales.
I mean if it does I guess I will eat a plate of the finest crow.

It's on 3DS as well, so I don't see it being a problem. That said, Square-Enix don't do too well at predicting sales (or setting reasonable expectations) as a general rule.
This is Kadokawa's director, and Enterbrain's president, not Square Enix. He used to be the chief editor for Famitsu.
Since he's talking about Japan, maybe? It's really hard though, did a DQ game ever sold more than 5 million copies in Japan alone?

Im surprised by the amount of skepticism in this thread, the dude crazy to predict that. The game will be on 3DS, PS4 and Switch, it has great chances of selling over 5M in Japan
Yeah, I think people are severely underestimating how many people may double dip. There will likely be a lot of people that buy both the 3DS and Switch version.
Dragon Quest 9 is the best-selling DQ game in Japan at 4.3 million. But it only released on a single platform with a single version.
AFAIK it's the only PS4 game that's broken a million in Japan.
Yeah.
DQ games sells close to 4m in Japan selling for one platform. It's nice to want things.
I mean, I'm sure it'll do great, but 5+ million? It's not impossible, but not exactly likely either. Time will tell, I guess.
When IX came out it was the talk of everyone that summer (thanks in large part due to the street pass awesomeness that the game had).
That's Minecraft though. A new ip on the Wii u beating it is more shocking.
Oh I remember the excitement for DQ9. But what street pass stuff are you talking about? Wasn't it a DS game?
The real question is by how much the 3DS version will outsell the PS4 one
