Kay Plays |OT|

Title change is nice but I miss the "Batman of Souls" part.

Man she really seems to have something against Oscar D:

Also seems like she's learning the scout rush tactic in this episode. I think it's a tactic that gets more hate than it deserves. It's not quite the automatic win button it's usually presented as. You still need to figure out which enemy soldiers to take down to keep your scout safe, as the scouts are pretty vulnerable. And the story missions (not so much the skirmishes though) do a pretty good job of switching up the objectives or surprise you with stuff like reinforcements or other gimmicks to ensure it's not always a viable tactic.

I also like it thematically. As a pacifist I quite like the idea of effectively accomplishing the objective while minimizing the number of casualties on both sides. Also, presumably, surviving enemy combatants are taken as prisoners and are questioned for intel or exchanged for Gallian prisoners. They are worth more alive than dead, so it makes sense that the army/militia leadership would incentivize you to take more prisoners.

The problem with scout rush is that it's the optimal tactic for (almost) every mission. For a tactics game that's not great.

I've never played VC but it's been in the back of mind to often, just the first episode of Kay's playthrough got me itching to try it again. I guess I should wait for the remaster though.

Thanks for the title change Stumpokapow! I'll have to update the OP now when I have some time.

And thanks to Bliddo for pointing me to the Seraphim Bloodborne LP. He's great!

Really excited to watch Kay handle this game. One of my favorite RPGs ever. There were some battles that I must have replayed 15+ times, so I'm curious to see how Kay deals with them.

It's just fun seeing someone with a quick wit and grasp of new concepts learning the rules of something you like.

It also reminded me how strong Shocktroopers actually are, I so rarely use them.

She really doesn't like Cezary's personality. :lol That's good, she's more likely to sub him out for Marina whenever she becomes available.

And yeah, the x2 speed skirmishes definitely confirm that she realised the power of the Scouts (and their necessity if you want good ranks). Of course she would.

By far Valkyria Chronicles' biggest design flaw.

Looks like she's fallen in love with Juno. :D

And realised how much better Scouts are than any other class. Seriously, you could just about halve their AP and they'd still be the best class.

No battles here. We take a break to do some squad management, and learn about Gallia, its history, and its people.
If you want to skip any sections of this video, timestamps are below the break.

16:32 Glossary

I love this. This is such a Kay thing to do.

Not going to watch the series, but started the first episode to see how Kay was. So happy she's a normal person streaming on YouTube, and not going down the route of the yelling like an idiot with crazy thumbnails playing YouTube bait games kind of person.

Kay is a super chill, well educated, talented, accomplished person, and she puts all those things into her videos. I've honestly never had an LP experience that's just so... fulfilling.

Definitely the only Let's Player who will pause for a bit to ponder the etymology of a word, like aichmophobia in this latest episode.

Will she play Dark Souls 3 day one?

We don't know for sure since she hasn't said anything about it. But she's had a long break from the Souls series so she's hopefully itching to jump in.

It's a shame I won't get to watch her until I've finished it.

Either that or I'll just make sure to constantly stay ahead of where she is in her uploads.

"I love this game"

I was so happy to hear her say that. It's really a fantastic game and I love when people appreciate it despite certain... issues with the scouts being broken as fuck.

Just checked the first skirmish attempt in 5-B, Oscar got down to 20HP, but lived. :D But do tell if I did miss another death not pictured above in an episode (with timestamp if possible!) and I'll add it. :)

Wait I thought VC had permadeath. Shows how little I've played though.

It has permadeath if a character goes down and an enemy touches it or a certain number of turns pass without you touching the character with another one to call the medic.

Basically, it's impossible for a character to permanently die unless you do it on purpose.

Her Oscar moments are hitting way too close to home for me. Same exact thing would happen anytime I used him, but I kept using him because Cezary's attitude pissed me off. Oscar is made of tissue paper, basically.

Farming those skirmishes is a smart move. You'll get more adept at using your Squad and get some XP. I waited a bit before doing those, and had a couple story matches that kicked my butt.

I think Oscar's learned his lesson. Didn't even come close to getting killed in the last two missions.

And as soon as Marina appears in the barracks and dominates the Sniper class, he'll get even less exposure to danger. :D

Assuming Kay uses her, any way. Kay seems to not like the quiet characters (though admittedly, a lot of the quiet ones just sound fucking terrible in English). Marina's quiet, but her voice in Japanese is fantastic; don't know what she sounds like in English but hopefully it's an enticing enough voice to get Kay to give her a chance.

I hope we get to Jenny (IIRC). Her uh... excited tendencies are amusing.

Someone recommended a mod in the comments, anyone got impressions on that?

What is this? Who is this?

Ok someone give me a good episode / game to jump in and watch? Tempted by VC but maybe also demon/dark souls as I've already played those to completion so no spoilers (not played VC beyond the first couple of missions)

Start with Dark Souls I it was her first playthrough it does have some framerate/recording issues early on and the first few episodes are a bit slow as she tries to get used to the controls but watching her master the game is fantastic and has some incredible moments (especially in Anor Londo) both in gameplay as well as her being really observant and putting the story together.

I would also recommend the playthroughs of Life Is Strange and Gone Home. LiS for her reaction to key story events and Gone Home for her attention to detail.

Cheers. Will leave life is strange as I've only done one episode myself so far. Gone home I've finished so that's ok. But will start with dark souls
