KeplerL2: "Both Xbox, PS6 and PS handheld are still in track for Holiday 2027"

What constitutes as the reveal here? Showing the console? If so, that has always happened just months before a console launch, way before PS4 even.

I mean, "we are working on next gen console" could be said one day after launch of the previous one, we know they are doing it.

I think official reveal is when we see how it looks, name, price etc.

But that's not what Sony pieces in 2019 were, lol.
All of those literally stated the initial specs, BC plans, PSVR1 support, the name of the console (PlayStation 5), the controller's haptic feedback tech, the holiday 2020 launch, etc.
Again, this is an official PR of the product itself:

You need to work on your napkin maths. The diff for RAM is much lower than that. You can't say "we know the full specs" and put wild ranges either. The rumour is 24GB handheld and 30GB home console. I'd imagine if one is reduced then both are reduced if one goes higher then both go higher.

Like the weaker steamdeck or Switch 2 hamstrings the industry now? Why do people act like they know the details about it already.

Many AAA companies don't release their games on Switch 2(or it gets ported later).

So it will be interesting if Sony mandates all games will need to be on portable system as well. Probably not an issue early in generation since cross gen with PS5 will be dominant.(perhaps for several years). Later in the generation though, will people be annoyed that the portable is being mandated for PS6 only games?

I didn't know about that. I read about wired article from 2019 that didn't have the name of the console.

It wouldn't surprise me if they don't mandate PS6 games (recommend it maybe), it should be able to do portal like streaming no problem, better in fact with AI enhancing the image etc. sure, it won't be native for everything then but every game can then technically be played even at the highest settings via the PS6/cloud. That's one solution at least.

It's possible for things to be delayed but very unlikely at this point. The RAM/NAND situation is bad but has mostly stabilized and will likely be at least a little bit better by the end of 2027.
Really hoping for the RAM/NAND situation to improve, otherwise the startup I work at is screwed. We need to buy new servers since we're a hybrid set up with some self hosted and some things in the cloud. But now we're stuck in a situation where the cost of memory is about 10x(we need TBs of server memory).

This makes no sense. PS6 Portable will run PS6 games (not sure if ALL) on handheld profile, just like PS5 Pro runs PS5 games on Pro profile. As such, for it to run PS6 games, the PS6 needs to exist as well.

This is actually very unlikely, because you can't mandate developers that have no interest on getting a PS6 version out to go and get devkits for it if they want to ship a PS5 game.
It's the same reason you could (and still can, but obviously no one does) launch PS4 games with no PS5 version post 2020.

No way Sony mandates almost anything for the PSP3.

160 W for the PS6 suggests otherwise.

The PS6 is what the PS5 Pro should have been and nothing more.

I honestly don't think you understand computer technology at all. Like 0%. Either that, or you're just trolling. How could the the PS5 Pro be what the PS6 is if the technology literally never existed? Or did you forget the PS5 Pro came out in 2024?

Its well known for some time already, simply coz tsmc has huge lead over samsung/intel, it was relatively small back in 2020 when nvidia's 3000 series card launched on 8nm samsung node vs amd's rdna2 on 7nm tsmc, but now and in foreseeable future tsmc is at least 3 years ahead.

All big playas like apple, all of the AI and ofc nvidia/amd/intel are literally in a huge nasty bidding war to get as big piece of 3nm cake as possible.

Obviously sony will need or actually already is participating hard in that bidding war too, since they will need tons of chips for their upcoming ps6, if not holidays 2027 then for sure in 2028, and lets not forget microsoft and their magnus(altho here lets not lie to ourself, it will be relatively small order).

There is a reason playstation hardware is getting more and more expensive, lets not forget ps5pr0 die is 4nm tsmc node after all ;)

Only thing I've heard for sure is it being about halfway (?) into PS5's raw power, and more powerful in general than the Switch 2 (but not as much as the gap between PSP and DS, and PS Vita and 3DS). I've read conflicting thoughts in comparisons between Xbox Series S (ones suggesting that it's more powerful, others that it isn't).
Also, I've been more excited over just the simple idea of a new PlayStation handheld than anything else, so please drop your personal bullshit (I don't even remember who you are, btw).
GPU is a bit ahead of XSS in raster (and ofc massively ahead in RT/PT)

Microsoft tends to announce super early because their generations tend to fizzle out quicker than Sonys and they want to keep the hype train going.
Edit: As I continued reading the thread, I see that the claim was already refuted. I'll still leave this up as it's at least easy to read and organized.

Probably need to check exact dates, but the two LLM's I asked shows the opposite.

Edit: I did notice that this list did not include last gens pro machines, in which case Xbox had a longer gap between announcement and release. Now this seems to be using Official announcements. I'm not sure if this trend of Sony waiting longer between unveiling and release holds true in other context (mentioning next gen devices but not officially unveiling). Maybe you can find examples that counter this information.
