Killzone 3 Single Player Demo released on PSN (for everyone)

They didn't drop it, they just toned it down significantly.

You sure? I don't see a trace of the motion blur from KZ2. The blurring while sprinting is something entirely different, if that's what you're referring to.

wow, props to those that can play using motion controls, my brain just can't grasp it, it feels like I'm rubbing my tummy with one hand and patting my head with the other, it doesn't feel natural, I am using the DS3 though instead of a navi, don't know if that makes a big difference or not, I just keep wanting to turn the analogue stick to look.

Some whiners thought KZ2 was too blurry. GG always caves in.

I'd say that it's much more realistic to think that it was toned down because the amount of detail in the game has gone up quite a bit. You can look at the comparisons between Salamun and Blood Gracht as an example of just how much better KZ3 looks in comparison to KZ2.

The visual density has gone up, but why would that necessarilly make a reduction in motion blur necessary. Unless the imagery is too busy and the motion blur becomes distracting. I mean Crysis 2 has per object blur and it has a lot of density, granted it has colors that contrast far more in a given environment.

Yeah I loved the motion blur. Just run everywhere in KZ3. :D

If people actually complained about the visual clarity of Killzone 2 it would probably have had much more to do with the palette, and QAA making a softer image to begin with than it did the motion blur itself being excessive.

The object based motion blur was amazing in Killzone 2, if it is in Killzone 3, I certainly haven't been able to see it.

Didn't they almost triple the amount of polygons?

Which move settings do you use guys?

I can't seem to find a correct combination; I can barely move around.xD

Deadzones at 0 and crosshair sensitivity at 20%

Decent motion blur is a must, the motion blur in Crysis is amazing, it really helps with giving you the illusion that the game is running at a better frame rate than it is, Crysis is a great example of that, motion blur is why 24fps movies seem to smooth to us.

Can't remember all the specifics at the moment, but I changed things quite a bit. I know that I have reduced sensitivity to 30 and I made sure that the vertical dead zone is large, so I don't happen to look up or down by accident. But sensitivity down was THE one trick that made me continue to try and use move. After two days in bot zone, I'm not going back to DS3. This will be my preferred way of playing the game.

Who cares? The image quality is second to none.

Well beat the demo on elite. Pretty easy, you can just use heavy weapons most of the time. I detached that hand cannon whatever it is and blasted helghast to kingdom come. Game looks great, jetpacks are fun, cover works good, etc etc.

As someone else noted, they did not drop it. I also thought it was missing, but you can still see it. It has simply become quite subtle, which I suspect was in response to the complaints many people had with the first game (making people sick or something). I think they were quite wrong, however.

If you have a freeze feature on your TV, you can catch it in action. Just initiate a melee attack and then pause the image. You can clearly see that the motion of the arm is blurred. It's simply much less so than in other first party Sony games with motion blur. Same deal with enemies, vehicles, and other effects. Motion blur is used on all of them, but it is much more subtle.

Really? I seriously tried to look for it, but I couldn't see it in any shape whatsoever. Will have to do a double-take I guess, but I'm still not convinced it's in. Maybe someone that has some video capturing hardware could take screenshots during a melee animation to prove it. :P

Damn, I'm impressed. After gaming on high-end PC it's hard to impress me but they did it. You got to see it to beleive it, trailers don't do justice.

Gameplay:
-it's more open this time. I got to AA guns with my jetpack from the backdoor it seems. They killed me the first time. edit: First time I used the ladder (a hard way), but the second time I jumped on pipes and then jumped over the fence above.
-it feels good.
-it feels varied and action-packed.
-I think it's a bit harder in a good way. I died three times in the demo.
-Rico isn't that much of an asshole anymore. He even saved me one time.
-Cinematics are beatiful
-Voice acting is so-so, but it works if you don't expect Saving Private Ryan. It's a brutal action blockbuster film. You just watch and relax not investing too much in the plot.
-Cutscene direction is quite good.
-sound is superb.

I liked it. Guerilla did a good work. I liked KZ2 but SP felt bland even if it had good components in place like a good AI for example. This just feels like a step above comparing to the previous entry. It's not a masterpiece but it's a damn good game. That's all.

I cannot access the HK PSN.
Is there a place where you can download the demo, put on a USB Key and launch it?
Thanks.

hehe. The answer to this question might get people banned.

Oh sorry then.
But I see here, in another Neogaf thread that there is an archive with demos.
Is it legit?

I see. Just demos. Well, I think if you google it you'll find it soon. But why HK store doesn't let you in? Any error?

In case it wasn't obvious - the demo is not a whole level (roughly half). Some sections in the middle taken out as well as the end section.

The demo was awesome. Visually, it was great but if I had to nitpick something it would be the amount of shimmering and jaggies there were. IQ was second to none though. Great demo, much better than Killzone 2's demo imo.

lulz

Can't wait to play this later. Any noticeable difference in the way the game plays/feels (gun recoil and weight, player movement etc.) compared to the MP?

Will try demo soon but I am thinking

KZ3 SP > KZ2 SP

KZ2 MP > KZ3 MP

how about in KZ4 GG goes back to KZ2 MP core with better controls like KZ3...that should make most happy...

amirite? :)

Does not compute... Good IQ is exactly the lack of jaggies n shimmering.

Just had my first run through the demo.

Wow at the odd audio design and Sev's performance :S. Not to knock the game (demo's conclusion and the included trailer has me hyped), but was it just me, or was Sev's lines kind of awkwardly peformed. The brief exchange after the tidal wave hits him felt forced and out of place. Also, after Uncharted 2's amazing wet effects, Sev looking no different after getting wet is really jarring, let alone the environment around him.
Yeah. The lack of motion blur really gives an odd sensation that I can only describe as being hollow, especially the water.

That is because ND is made up of Dev Gods, and they think of little touches like that. GG not so much, probably didn't occur to them to add water effects.

I really love that demo, I'm not a big fan of the new "set pieces" orientations, it's not that I don't like variety, but the core gameplay is so good. And for some reason, the move controls are different when you use the jet pack (not the same bounding box/sensibility,etc...).

Anyway, it looks gorgeous (that said, I have the feeling that the IQ has taken a hit since KZ2, I'm not sure what's changed, but it doesn't look as great, is it the lighting? the motion blur?) and the Move controls are wonderful. It's simple, I want every FPS on PS3 to implement Move controls that works as well as that. Dual stick is obsolete for me.

Can someone confirm/deny that the cutscene(s) in the demo are compressed video files?

KZ2 was 720p with QAA, KZ is 720p with MLAA, which should look much better/sharper. But the motion blur is apparently toned down a lot. I think they listened to complains that the game looked too blurry, so they changed both things that made it look blurry (QAA and motion blur)

Pretty sure they hide loading in the same way as Uncharted 2 with video files in some of the cutscenes, not all of them.
