Looks fantastic. I'm still glad that Capcom did what they did for SF IV (cause it keeps looking amazing), but this also looks way, way nice.

Ferrio...got a link to the who pic or is that it?

Also these look bad ass...I am so happy fighting games are making a comeback...also I require Mai, Rock, Geese, Andy, Joe and Yuri.
Andy is confirmed to be in KOFXII

The primary focus of XII (and to some degree, 98UM), is to try and re-acquire the KOF fans who may have left the series, after so many times of being disgusted (2000, 2001 and 2003, mainly).

So, this "grassroots" approach is to do more to entice people who want a KOF game that plays along the lines of 98, the classic style that long-time KOF fans loved. And considering that KOF was on a relative decline, following the 2K1 debacle and SNK's death and rebirth, SNK needed to do this revival.

I'm sorry for those who liked that "Shift" stuff from 2K3/XI, but I'm personally glad it's gone.

Eh, the tag stuff was far, far better than the strikers were. :P But I prefer the original team style as well.

It's just that the last few years have seen the releases of KOF Neowave, KOF MI Regulation A, and now KOF '98 Ultimate Match, all of which are already using the classic style. Plus XI seemed to be universally liked by just about everyone.

With KOF '98 UM out, they HAVE an old-school game to get players back. Something new could have been done with XII, but they're playing it safe and that's a good idea for what is essentially the first game in a "new" series.

Even if it were low-res, the spritework is insane. The shading is a step beyond any 2D fighter I ever seen: amazingly deep colors and detailed self-shadowing.

With this neoGAF reaction. I would like to see the console version sale. Will it even pass 100K? :)
This is what I was thinking when I entered this thread.

i have a feeling it will be compared to the likes or the transition of Cell shaded Zelda and the more realistic zelda.

SFIV will look great but probably look stale as it gets older, however with the artistic work for KOF XII it will look timeless.

Just look like SF3rd Strike, it still looks great even after all these years.

does someone agree with this?

Clash System: If two attacks hit each other (I don't know the requirements because they don't say) then there will be a new flashy effect to signal this and neither character takes damage. I'm wondering how this works because in the last screenshot for this section it shows Benimaru attacking but Athena (?) looks like she's blocking....

Nah, she's not blocking. It's her CD attack. I think they called it a Blowback attack in those funny How-to-Play things? Basically you hold both hard attack buttons and your character does a hard hitting normal that knocks the other person down.

Also everybody wanting Iori in.. storyline wise that wouldn't make sense! He got his flames taken away in XI (Ash is going for all 3 divine treasures; Chizuru's Yata Mirror/Illusions which got taken in 2003 and Iori's Yasakani Magatama/Orochi Flames which got taken in XI. All that's left is Kyo's Flames and associating treasure.. which should be a sword!).

Clearly Kyo's going to get his ass kicked and Shingo will save the day. GO SHINGO.

after watching the SF HD remix videos i have realized hi res sprites cannot mask crap animation. I hope KOF has improved the animation along with hi res sprites.

Who the fuck cares. Just let him have a revamped moveset without flames.

Yeah, I know. It's possible. I'm pretty sure some guy went and already did that in like MUGEN or whatever. It's just bound to be a different Iori though. Atleast he wasn't really super dependant on that power like Chizuru was, the lack of fun mirror action pretty much benched her.

I actually really wanna see an Iori without his flames. I also always wanted to see a shingo with flames. Of course he'd be really horrible at controlling them and burn himself constantly.

Why all this excitement? The screens are so small. Cant with though being that I love KOF. Been playing it in arcades since I was in like Junior High School. Next we need Samurai Showdown.:D

Iori needs a drastic change, he's been the same since 95. whereas Kyo has evolved over the years in both design and actual move set.

dude, fuck off seriously. there are plenty of SF4 threads around for you to post, instead of resorting to this crap.

What?! I hate to steer this of course but why? It was one of the reasons that got me into XI.

The straight up elimination matches put way more focus on individual match ups and strategy imo.

^ This. I preferred it this way, as opposed to the shift system, which made it so that it was much more based around chains crafted by teams.

EDIT: I can understand hating 2001/2003... but what was so wrong with 2000? I loved that game.

2000 had a lot of fundamental flaws, the main one being Strikers, which allowed for some easy, and really stupid infinites.

Once people found those things, it made 2K largely into a joke. Only 2001 was deemed as more "cringe-worthy" amongst the multitude of KOF fans.

I'm open for SNK trying new ideas...in NEW games, that is. Let KOF go back to being KOF, and let them stretch the boundaries of their imaginations in other games, I say. :D

Personally, I'm hoping that this will be the start of a "Platinum Age" for SNK (Playmore). I want them to do more to re-capture what made me love them back in the day, by either directly crafting, or at least being some what responsible (through ADK) in crafting multifarious fighting games. For instance, after KOF XII, few things would make me happier than to hear them either a) making a sequel to Last Blade or MOTW or b) a distinctly new IP 2D fighter.

Back in the day, SNK/ADK had a lot of different fighting games; some were stinkers, some were mediocre, and then there were the ones that truly were magnificent (Real Bout, Samurai Spirits/Shodown, Last Blade, MOTW). We wouldn't have gotten such variety if SNK was content to stay with one series, and plunge all their ideas into that one medium. Hell, it may actually do something to make things worse.

So, again, that's why I'm all for SNK experimenting, either through new entrants in other franchises, or a new IP (which would be a first for SNK in almost a decade). But KOF needs to do more to re-capture its glory that it did more to lose since the turn of the century. And what better way to do that than by marrying classic gameplay style, and making it REALLY, REALLY pleasing to the eye? :D

The Joe/Whip infinite was one of the stupidest things I've ever seen in gaming.

Makes you scratch your head and wonder how the fuck that got by testing.

It's not just neogaf either. Anyone with taste is throwing shit at Capcom for doing SF4 like they are and praising SNK the almighty fighter gods.

To an extent. SFIV is fine for what it is; I don't think it will replace 3rd Strike. I'm comparing KoFXII to 3s personally, as it could end up being my all time favorite 2D fighter.

I like to see a company with a lot of money give a '2d' look to a 3d game, though, maybe they'll eventually get it right.

Also, this kicks the living shit out of HD Remix, just... wow. What a clever way to draw sprites, too.

Damn..that looks really good. I've never been a fan of the KoF series, but nonetheless, extremely good looking.

I would love it if SFHDR had a big budget like this game. Not that it's horrible now, but it could look so much better with a good budget.

I loved EVERY screen (but this one).

One of these things, is not like the other.

With that aside, I love the art style. It's brilliant.

Ya that does look weird. But terry doesn't use flames, so it shouldn't look like fire.

This is what Capcom should've done with SF4. Amazing.

Andy's in?! :O <3<3

Although, these screens need more more Rock.

As much as I loathe 2K, I'm willing to give SNK a pass for it. It was crafted around the time when they basically were bankrupt, and running out of people to continue work on the series. That's why, by 2K1 a year later (and Eolith was helping out), things went to pot so fast...

I dunno. As much as I think this game is going to rock my world, I'm still of the opinion that, in classic SNK style, it may still take them another sequel (or two) to truly make for masterful gameplay from a new engine.

If nothing else, I'm setting myself up to lower my hype just a few notches, if only because I'm sure characters that I really care about (like Joe, Yamazaki, Billy, Vice, Mature, the New Faces and others) are more than likely going to be held off for a future game.

Actually, it's supposed to be depicting Terry's Power Geyser vs. Kyo's Orochi Nagi.

What are the odds of Kim Jae Hoon & Rock Howard being in this game?

Rock's pretty much out, and Jae Hoon's pretty damn young in MotW, too, so the timeline prolly doesn't leave him old enough yet.

I hope they shake things up this year. Set the basis with 12, and have 13 really move forward.

Airkiru said:

Not much.

Again, like I've said before, there's not much reason for certain MOTW characters to be involved in the mix, because their "1st generation equivalents" are still very much a part of the active part of the cast. Kim Kaph Wan, Ryo Sakazaki and Geese Howard are all alive and well, so there's not much need for the Kim twins, Marco/Butt or Rock.

So, to put it bluntly, until Geese is dead in the 2D KOF series, don't expect Rock, or any of his lil friends, to show up just yet.

...And before any starts talking about Hotaru's appearance in KOFXI...I'd like to remind you that she was a special edition for the console port, and also not a canonical entrant in the overall storyline.
