Konami planning something for Castlevania's 25th anniversary.

Why in the fuck would it be Wii related.
Do you really see Konami or anyone else making special effort to do anything for the Wii when even Nintendo has written it off?
God damn.

But this is great news, I love Castlevania and anything they bring will be fun.
Because ROM dumps and Wii go together like peanut butter and chocolate. A collection probably wouldn't be Wii only though, it really could be across almost all the systems.

As long as it's not Lords of Shadow related, i'm all for it. I need a new (real) Castlevania game, be it an Igavania, classic style, or the famous Julius Belmont 1999 battle. I'm part of the minority that actually enjoyed Lament of Innocence, even though the level design was quite simple and repetitive.

Seriously, I can't believe people are willing to defend the old 3D Castlevanias. Lords of Shadow was better than any of the 3D Catslevanias by a significant margin. Just because it's a "God of War clone" (which I think is just silly) doesn't detract from the quality of the game.

The PS2 castlevanias had some of the best music compositions in the series and at the very least they were original in their design. If Konami had thrown the kind of money they flushed down the shitter to turn the Castlevania series into another product on the God of War also-ran heap then those PS2 3D games would have definitely been the better for it.

In contrast what exactly did that overseas outsourced game have going for it exactly? It being a God of War clone that, like all the other ones, could not even match up to the generation old God of War 2? What exactly did it do for the series other than shit on its unique identity and instead make it into a god damned God of War clone.

Did I mention God of War clone enough many times, because I cannot believe people are actually fine with a series with a 20 year history now turning into a game wanting to be another existing popular game. You cannot call a game a part of Castlevania series when it is trying to ape another very different game which already existed in a genre that is so crowded that it is bursting at the seams.

Now you might think, bu bu bu, Symphony of the Night was a Metroid clone. To this I must kindly ask you to take note that the genre is called Metroidvania for a good reason, that reason being that both games contributed equally to the genre, they both very different spins on the formula and complemented each other very well.

But holy crosses, what is it with western devs and wanting to imitate God of War specifically? Down to the tiniest detail? Why?

There are so many games in the combo action game genre who all are part of the same genre and complement each other while managing to have their own unique gameplay identity. There is Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden and Bayonetta. Why then is there a sub genre in existence composed of games trying to be just like God of War specifically.

All wanting to be a game with a very familiar fast/heavy attack combo system featuring a chain like weapon, why exactly that?

I, god, my damn head hurts.

Curse of Darkness was much better than LOS to me.
LOS is so...uneventful.And stupid.

Hoping for a new Metroidvania with remade sprites, it's time to let those Rondo of Blood assets rest a bit!

Huh....you must have hated LoS if you find the craptacular CoD better than it, seriously the 64 games are better made games than the sloppy job Iga managed to get away with. And dear god is it a boring game! I haven't aged that much since playing Dawn of Mana

I hope it's something cool, but I'm just so resigned to them never giving us what we want that my expectations are super low.

Probably alone here, but I'd love to see remakes of handheld Metroidvanias on the 360/PS3. Not really feasible for some of the DS stuff, I guess, but there are GBA games to poach.

Sorry to bump this thread for those expecting some news, but did this rumor turn out to be completely false?

The Fire Emblem part is true. It is coming to the 3DS

But Contra and Castlevania have yet to be revealed!

There was a teaser about Contra back at E3, but nothing came out of it.

iirc, Alberto said that for some reason they probably took them out of the showing.

That is very disappointing. And I don't like the fact that "some people might not like the direction these games are taking"

I guess he was talking about these games taking the 3D route. Fire Emblem has 3D models instead of sprites. So, it is possible that Castlevania is going to be a 3D game, or 2.5D

I guess the only possible consolation is that Castlevania's 25th anniversary is less than two weeks away, and they'll announce the Complete Chronicles collection then. It would be a shame for them to miss their quarter-century anniversary alongside my other favorite series (Metroid).

I think you might be on to something!!! The 25th anniversary is on the 26th of this month, so it would make sense if they revealed the new game(s) on that day. Maybe they are waiting until TGS ends to announce a CV event...

Back on the hype train!!! Don't disappoint me Konami!!

I think you meant the 25th anniversary is on the 26th, but that's okay. I bumped this thread out of a feeling of doom and gloom that nothing appeared at TGS, but am now back on the hype train myself. Thanks SmellyCat!

Haha, yeah, I switched the numbers. We really shouldn't lose hope yet. There is obviously a CV game or games being developed. At least one them is for the 3DS. Otherwise, we wouldn't have these rumors popping every other month. Remember that rumor about the CV team experimenting with 3D cameras??

Would love to see them announce a sequel to Symphony of the Night that looks and sounds as good as BloodRayne: Betrayal. Might be the first time I ever call a downloadable game my Game of the Year.

It'll be nice if they release the Saturn version of Symphony of the Night on PSN/XBLA, you know the one with the 4 (2 normal, 2 inverted) dungeons that was never brought out from Japan and was never placed in the PSX version.

Plus making it in HD using the Retro Engine would be fantastic.

Castlevania in the same HD style as Hard Corps: Uprising :3

And with Ayami Kojima doing the art of course <3
You sir speak the truth! Also make it for Vita and my mind = blown.

I hope it's a PC game.

Actually, I don't care. As long as the franchise doesn't die out and as long as they keep 2D alive, they can release it any platform they want. Yes, I'll even take it on a damn smartphone if the gameplay's solid.

I would really like to see a Castlevania III remake. I know it's Igarashi's favorite one, yet he always remakes something else like he's avoiding it.

Also, 3D Classics Castlevania needs to come out this year. :)

what's this gotta do with re6 and you being incredibly guillable?

You're right, this doesn't belong in this thread. I'll retire.
But jeez, those silent people who sat in a corner believing and following, then acting like they saw through it sicken me.

This is my first time hearing about this Operation Akumajo. LOL! Does everything need an "Operation" these days?

Here, I found this about it.

http://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/index.php?topic=4006.0

Welcome to Operation: Akumajo!

We are an activist community dedicated to preserving the heart and soul of Castlevania as we have known it for 25 years. We fully embrace the legacy of 2-D action-platforming, as well as the legendary rivalry between Count Dracula and the Belmont Clan. We have named ourselves "Akumajo" in honor of Castlevania's Japanese origins, but also as a counterpoint to Konami's recent attempt to reboot and westernize the Castlevania brand. Although we accept Lords of Shadow as a fine game in its own right, we cannot accept the desecration it brings to the Demon Castle mythology.

For years, we have endured a love/hate relationship with our friends at Konami over their treatment of Castlevania. We remember waiting 14 years for Rondo of Blood to reach western shores. We lamented multiple attempts to reinvent Castlevania in 3-D. We grumbled over cheapening production values and shamelessly recycled content. And now we gnash our teeth at the possibility that Lords of Shadow may indeed be replacing the Castlevania legacy we know and love.

Recently, we were outraged to learn that Konami had not announced any plans to celebrate CastlevaniaÂ’s 25th Anniversary in any meaningful way whatsoever. After so many years of loyal support on our part, we felt this particular oversight was one dishonor too many. Therefore, we have finally joined together to make our displeasure known, and to challenge Konami to hold itself and Castlevania to a higher standard.

First, we believe Konami should finish the original continuity by reinstating Koji Igarashi to produce the "1999 Demon Castle War" as it was originally foretold by Aria of Sorrow over 8 years ago. Naturally, we expect this game to honor the Castlevania legacy by embracing the highest standards of 2-D gameplay, graphics, and design.

Secondly, we concede the Castlevania brand needs a reboot --however, we insist the traditional mythology be respected in doing so. Therefore, we believe Konami needs to redesign and remaster Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. Revisiting these old roots will properly introduce a new generation of players to the Castlevania story, and also pay appropriate tribute to longtime fans of the series. We expect this remake to honor the original, but also demonstrate the same high standards desired of the Demon Castle War.

Castlevania has been in decline for a very long time. Therefore, these games must be treated as serious investments with adequate resources, time, and attention to reach their full potential. Moreover, we also insist that both games be developed in high definition for release on modern home consoles. Over 14 years have passed since Symphony of the Night, and we have waited far too long...

If you agree with our aims and objectives, please “like” our page on Facebook to help us grow. Castlevania’s 25th Anniversary arrives officially on September 26, 2011 and we’re planning to celebrate...

Thank-you for watching our video,
Operation: Akumajo

That is both the most uplifting and saddest thing I've read in quite some time.

Someone should translate it to Japanese and send it to Igarashi somehow. I'm sure it would brighten his days while cleaning the KojiPro toilets.

Please be a new, full-fledged 2-D/2.5-D console Classic Castlevania with gorgeous hand-drawn sprites (think Vanillaware) and generous use of multiple routes/unlockables. So tired of Handheld regurgitations of SotN at this point and I *love* SotN.

The Fire Emblem part came true (the 3D battles on handhelds and co-op is probably what the "warning" was about).

I haven't talked to the guy since then, but now I know I can trust him on leaks. My assumption, however, is that Konami ended up pulling a lot of the stuff from that conference out. MGS3DS and Love Plus, both arguably huge (and one inarguably bad) 3DS games, barely got jackshit attention. Konami kind of threw a MGS3DS trailer out after the conference that clearly no one looked at.

I don't necessarily assume they canceled the projects, but I suppose it's possible. I honestly don't know what the hell Konami is thinking these days. They seem to be actively struggling to find IPs that can sell games but don't want to provide any money to developers to give them that shot.

I'm hoping Castlevania and Contra are not casualties of this mentality.

Lords of Shadow 2, please. The only Castlevania that matters now in my book.

I mean it's no mystery how much I love LOS but even I find that to be a ridiculous thing to say!

As much as I love LOS, I do not want it to replace the 2D games or anything.
