Kotaku: Nintendo acknowledges Joycon connectivity issues.

I'm really surprised the left joycon issue affects me.

I'm 6 feet from my tv with the Switch in front, and if I have my hands resting haphazardly (maybe blocked by a knee), the left joycon stops responding.

I really can't believe this was considered a shippable defect.

I am sitting right in front of my tv, with my left hand less than 1.5m front the switch with direct line of sight, and my left joycon is having connection issues.

There's a lot of stuff about this system I'm really liking, but it's fucking laughable that this is an issue. If there's no way to fix it with software, I don't see how Nintendo can avoid replacing the faulty cons.

So don't put the switch in my living room or my house

Found out where they were testing the joycons.

YOU MEAN THE PHONE THAT IM SUPPOSED TO BE USING FOR YOUR LACK OF FUCKING VOICE CHAT?

Yeah uh

Like, Nintendo is asking everyone to stick their phones atleast 4 to 5 feet away from their body. When most people realistically keep them in their party.

Like lets look back at the very first switch trailer. "hey we're at a party! Wow we're switching it tonight! Oh by the way please put your phones on that table there. Yeah just stack them up. Oh and put the Nintendo Console atleast 5 feet away from EVERYTHING. Yeah a little nice area for it. Yeah now let's kick this party off!"

This sucks for people with small rooms. "Whoops, better move my phone all the way to the corner of the room." It sucks for people who have a bunch of electronics hooked up in their console area. It sucks for fish collectors.

Like...yeah nah. Best to wait on a hardware revision.

I play my games on my desk which has my Laptop + Router + TV + electronics charging docks for phones and such.

Nintendo is basically telling me not to play.

And they acknowledged the issues one day AFTER the launch to make sure people won't return their pre-orders despite the issue being known for days.

Guess pleasing share holders with the next fiscal report is more important than customer satisfaction.

So... I've been playing no problem today. And I just went to turn on the Switch from sleep mode and the Left Joy-Con wasn't doing anything. Checked the controller settings and it's acting like nothing is attached for the Left Joy-Con. Rebooted the system three times now and still not recognizing the Joy-Con. I was just playing Bomberman a little while ago with the Joy-Con Grip, no problem. Any ideas what to do?

EDIT: Okay finally it worked. Pressed the SL and SR buttons a few times on the Left Joy-Con and the LEDs started lighting up. Plugged it back onto the Switch and it recognizes it again. Phew! Let's hope that doesn't happen again.

Someone should try placing the Right Joy Con in another room (or just far away) and see if the Left Joy Con works better then.

I'm wondering if the Right Joy Con signal is interfering with the Left Joy Con signal.

Seriously Nintendo, I swear I never thought I'd ever say this;

But Fuck you. Seriously, fuck you and fuck your high horse bullshit.

Instead of apologizing and recalling the products to give us better versions, you give us this shit like it is our fucking fault.

I've got excited and bought a neon switch yesterday only to return it today for this joycon bullshit which you have harassed us with at the reveal. And at that price point you couldn't even give us a working console. And to counter this problem I was about to put another au$100 out for the pro controller.

I'm honestly disappointed with you after all these years since the Famicom.

I hope you properly acknowledge this issue by fixing these broken joycons and releasing better revisions later this year. I'm going to buy Mario so you better not fuck this up.

Iwata, you really are missed.

The guidelines are true for any Bluetooth device. Same as Wiimote or wireless gamepads.

Suuuuuuuuure.

I can truly understand for wanting them to work. I do too but I honestly don't want to use them cause they are small and it would just be uncomfortable. I'd like to try 1 2 switch but only for free.

Does it also lose connection when it's used as a connected controller? That would obviously such to have inputs go unnoticed.

Does it affect every controller? They are selling a lot of them and it does seem unjust to sell to people knowing it has a defect

They should definitely work even if I wouldn't use them. I'd still want mine to work just incase.

Your non gaming friend who plays with you would agree when you complain losing on the known hardware fault.

For what it's worth, I just tested out my unit and I was not able to replicate the issue at all. I was standing around 3m away from the undocked unit, put the joycons behind my back, tried occluding it with my hands and even brought metal objects nearby to try create interference and still a perfect connection. Interesting to say the least.

If anyone is trying to keep tabs:
- Australian unit (if that makes any difference)
- Grey Joycons
- 3m, table top mode, no issues
- Suburban location (very little radio congestion here)

I said it earlier in the thread but I really think the dock is the issue. I have desyncs when docked but it's perfect undocked at the same distance.

Could be possible. Tried it again a little further away (about 4.5m) with the joycon behind my back and got very slight stuttering (though occluding with my hand did nothing), so it is still present but not in a realistic scenario. I'll try it docked later when I have the chance.

So nowhere near a phone that's needed for online play? Lol.

This isn't good.

I've had plenty of issues today, I can't hold the controller just in my lap w my legs up on the coffee table. You figure out how you can hold it and every once in a while you adjust if you wind up scooting into a position it doesn't agree with, it doesn't make it unusable, but it's definitely something that needs to be fixed.

So far I've only played it in handheld mode, so I'm not sure if mine is fucked yet. It's sitting on my entertainment center, to the left of my Playstation 4 and my WiFi enabled Smart TV. I've got nowhere else to put it, so it better fucking work. Jesus, the idea that a company could just offer "don't put it near electronic stuff lol" as a solution to this kind of fuckup is amazing.

I moved the aquarium to another room.

OK, wow. I just tried this. With both Joycons obstructed behind my knee. While touching them together the left Joycon barely responds to my input. I moved the right Joycon an arms length away and the left Joycon works perfectly in the same spot behind my knee. So it looks like the Joycons could be interfering with each other.

Thanks!

Hoping more people try this too.

If that tweet is real, maybe Kaz should be less of a prick, thinking back to the PSVR tracking issues.

Uhhh what? Of course that's a parody account. Why would Kaz say any of that.

On topic, it baffles me how Nintendo continually have something wrong with the switch. Like this console can be described with "on the other hand". I hope they can fix this issue or I guess you don't need that phone which you need to use for their dumb voice chat.

Left joycon definitely has oddities.

Was playing Zelda and a few times it just wasn't sending input to the console.

Come on. You gotta do better than this.

Sorry if I can sound rough, but

They can because people like you buy the product knowing the issue.

Knock on wood but I've had no problems so far and I have so much interference from blaring baby monitors and the like that even some of my TV channels don't work. It helps moving stuff around guys.

My dock is inside my cabinet below the TV, some 2.5 meters away, the AC router is sat six meters away in the window sill.

Nintendo:"Please do not keep the joycons near each other, they cause interference with one another."

Well..it makes sense. If both controllers have a bluetooth sensor, then it's completely possible that they both cause issues with each other. Especially since they're both probably sending similar signals to the switch in comparison to say, a phone.

We need more tests. And someone to email kotaku about this.

Judging by the Launch thread and other forums/social media around the internet the problem doesn't seem that common. Sucks for the people who do have though and there is nothing worse than having faulty hardware come purchase.

Perhaps more people do have it but their set ups are masking the problem ( but where do you draw the line? my DS4 won't work if i leave my room, but i don't need to leave my room do i) but i was pretty worried before my console arrived but it just seems not that many people are experiencing it. Hopefully Nintendo can offer up a more reliable fix soon for the people that do have it.

I'd imagine most people aren't using the joycons separate from the main unit.
