Kotaku: Silent Hills officially cancelled

I'm confused why some people didn't understand this the moment Guillermo del Toro said so.

Like it was a pretty obvious follow-up to Konami already being cagey about the game and taking down the teaser and throwing out Kojima, since at that point pretty much everyone was already known to be out of the project.

People need this to be a Cobra Commander moment - even if they knew it was coming, it's another log to throw on the fire.

Disgusting. A team creates drags the franchise out of outsource hell into relevance again just to have their project cancelled.

And fuck anyone who gives the smug "Didn't you know, Konami is a mobile company now" spiel. It fucking sucks, IP squatting is shit and so are the executives of this gambling/skinner box/gym company.

So.... Is there a reason that Konami is burning itself down to the ground?

I was at a casino this weekend and it seemed like every 4th slot machine was made by Konami. I'm guessing that business is a bit more profitable than anything a Silent Hill game could bring in.

Just get out of the games industry and sell your ip's to someone who will make proper use of them, I shutter to think what will happen to Metal Gear now that Kojima isn't around to protect it.

That soccer game and...yeah that soccer game.

The only surprising thing is that MGS lasted this long and that Silent Hills so much as hit the planning stages.

While many may disagree the MGS series has really lacked since 4. They kept it on life support but MGS was def going down the drain. While I want to play the next major MGS release I have little hope of it being "good".

But then again "good" is subjective.

RIP in peace Silent Hills.

Is there anything we can do as consumers to help save the game?

Probably a dumb question... but I'm willing to do anything I personally can to help bring this back.

what the fuck is going on with Konami and Kojima? They must have spent a pretty penny on PT, and the feedback from that reveal and the demo in general would have been really valuable in terms of building hype for Konami.

Is it something as simple as Konami consolidating and cutting anything risky, or management having a huge falling out with Kojima?

Probably both.

No one cares. It'll be just like the other silent hill crap. People were excited because P.T. was really something interesting. IT seemed Kojima and Del Toro were about to make something special.

I have no faith in Konami to make anything worthwhile now

So I guess Konami are dropping out of console gaming completely? What do they have left after MGSV?

More MGS. Because it's without a doubt that they will try to keep the series going after Kojima, I think they're already put out job listing for the next listing, if I'm not mistaken.

I wouldn't be surprised if we did actually see another Silent Hill. That's probably more far-fetched, but I could see them doing something small with the IP since it still seems to have some degree of hype surrounding it.

Are they stupid? really?? this game had so much hype. Everybody was talking about it, I felt it would do well in terms of sales. WHY??????????

In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.

Bwuahahahahahaha

Yes I'm sure they'll be involved in the next Silent Hill project

Even if it isn't officially cancelled yet, it's just going to wither before our eyes. Best case scenario is they cleanly cancel it, worst case is.... much worse than that.

Konami sure knows how to get in it's fan good graces lately.

Sucks though, was looking forward to see what they would do with the game after PT.

Yeah, just keep outsourcing it to studios that want to rehash SH2 over and over again.

Anyone have any theories as to why Konami is putting so much effort into being incompetent?

And there it is. I'm so bummed I don't even want to envision this being all an elaborate Kojima conspiracy.

After MGSV this company is dead to me.

I like how Konami wants people believe shit never happened...
Deleting PT from PS Store
What is PT?
Deleting Kojima references from everywhere.
Who is Kojima?
