Kotaku: Vita has the most games releasing in Japan through March

Games may be super niche and not viable for the west but in the end the fact stands that the Vita is getting most releases in Japan in the first quarter, which is still positive news.

I know this is about the Vita but holy fuck at that Wii U support. Thing is selling better than a lot of the systems on that list but nothing.

As for Vita, it isn't having a turnaround. MC sales seem to just be steady IIRC. That is a lot of games still. That loyal niche PS fanbase and the loyal third but effectively second parties that service them.

Only 2 Wii U games? Holy shit.

That was my initial reaction, too. Two games for an entire quarter? How the heck do you generate interest for a console with such sparse support?

This is what happens, though, when it's virtually up to Nintendo alone to support its machine with software. Drought periods like this are inevitable.

Man, all this "servicing" talk..

I'm at work people! Why VITA why?

It's good to see it's got a healthy amount of games coming out, it's just a shame most of them will not show their face in NA and most of them are not traditional jRPGs like we desperately need!

Brillo! The longer the Vita keeps being supported in Japan the longer it'll be viable as a platform in the west!

Not surprised by the WiiU releases though. This year's its death rattle. Even a price cut will do bugger all now there's no compelling games to actually push it to anyone outside the likely already on board Zelda fans.

Hopefully they'll have something to at least announce to replace it next year. If they pull another Wii and go years without any real presence in the console space their next systems going to make the WiiU look like the Wii.

Last year was really similar. It was dkctf and... Until Mario Kart in May. I honestly have no idea how anyone could justify a Wii U as their primary.

I'd like to know what these 39 games are.
When I look at upcoming Vita games from now to the end of March, I see a lot of ports of Visual Novels and re-releases. While I'm not saying those aren't games or anything (I bought my Vita specifically for those types of games) I think it is a bit of a stretch to say things are picking up, or acting like that is an impressive feat.

Long live the Vita, the swan song of the great traditional gaming dedicated handhelds. Never again shall we see your like, but we went out with a bang :salute:

Does someone have the list of games for the different platforms? The numbers alone are interesting, but not really all that useful.

This took... way too long. D: Sourced from Play-Asia (so it won't be entirely accurate), everything listed up until late March. Not sorted by dates or anything. Retail only. I didn't include straight up budget reprints, but there are things like Muramasa on Vita, Ace Combat on 3DS and Bioshock Infinite on PS3 which are expanded re-releases.

Not in Japan of course (people buy consoles because of games).
But here, you'd be amazed as to how many people bought the WiiU and force themselves to make it their primary out of pure fanboyism, then come and write about it on GAF.

List seems to be retail and dated releases only. When you add digital games plus still undated Q1 titles 3DS has 44 games coming in the same period for example.

That's the list I was looking at.
A couple of those titles, Photo Kano Kiss, SRW, are just re-releases at a lower price point. Then a bunch of titles I recognise as being ports of eroge/VNs. For sure there are new titles in that list too, but it is pretty inflated.

That's alot, or not so much for the others.

Either way, this thread will end up making the Vita look bad..... as all other Vita threads so far.

Let the Vita bashing/hating begin.

Good for Vita though. Hopefully the sales pick up some steam too.

I have never seen a more self-persecuting bunch than the GAF-Vita crowd. Still nothing even remotely close to this in the thread.

I own one as well and GAF is by far the most supportive group I've seen about the handheld.

Ebicore Photokano Kiss is an expansion, not a re-release (new scenarios plus all current dlc). Just like Dark Souls 2.

*Vita list*
You've got Ozmafia twice near the bottom
Just to note, most of those VNs are otome games (bunch of attractive guys and a female protagonist). Other than the PSP, it's the only console that gets this particular genre of VN, and serves this demographic.

Huh. What about the Sony handhelds makes them VN machines? It's kind of interesting.

Of those 39 Vita games, 20 are VNs. And since those never ever ever get released over here, it's like they don't exist. :(

What new scenarios? The official website even says 『フォトカノ Kiss』と同じゲーム内容を
リニューアルパッケージしたものです。 It even says that as such the save data and DLC work for both.

The audience of the Vita is the same audience that buys those kinds of games. Vita is otaku system for otaku. So they release games that appeal to that market.
Also, the screen resolution is more suitable for VN ports. Even the PSP has a higher resolution screen than the 3DS, it isn't as appealing to play VNs on.
