last game you gave up on

Dragon Dogma (not finished)

These other 2 games that I will mention are, instead, those games that, although I have concluded, I think are really boring, and absolutely terrible.

Control (finished)
Boring. Repetitive. Monotonous.

Persona 5 (finished)
Terrible and painful utter trash.
More monotonous than every game I ever played. And one of the most boring games ever.
The worst game of this generation.
It's probably the worst game of the P series.
(and even Ni No Kuni 2 is far much better than P5)
And after this, I swear I will never touch any other game in this P. series again.

I just had a second tongue grafted in so I could bite both simultaneously.

For me it was Octopath Traveller. I think it's actually a really neat game! I just hit a hard boss and bounced off rather than grind for XP.
You just don't grind in the game. Level was never a priority, equipments and mastering break boost mechanics combos are.

Recent give-ups:

Octopath Traveler - Boring me to tears after 5 hours. Ridiculous grinding and boring combat.

Ni no Kuni II - Not what I wanted after the glorious first one. The combat is not challenging at all and I really dislike the main characters.

Dragon Quest XI - The blandest main character ever. Combat is stupid-easy and it just wasn't keeping my interest.

Currently playing Monster Hunter World and Pillars of Eternity II and enjoying both.

Sekiro

I love and have beaten every other Souls game multiple times. But this one was not doing it for me. Both visually and gameplay wise I got bored.

On PS3 the one game I gave up on the quickest was God of War: Ascension during that stupid series of elevator battles at the end. To this day it is still one of the worst stages in a game I have played next to Bioshock Infinite's final battle (which I did finish after giving up on it for a long time).

On PS4, I am afraid that I may get perma-banned for saying this, but I gave up on Witcher 3. Every time I tried to do a mission I get pulled into 40 side quests and then another 40 side quests from each of those. Plus I had just finished playing Horizion Zero Dawn and The Witcher 3's character controls were horribly stiff compared to it in my opinion. I just couldn't get pulled in.

I fucking loved the Witcher 3, did everything i could possibly do in the game and played through it, and the expansions TWICE. Just differences of opinions i guess.

Every person I know that has played it is the same way. Multiple full playthroughs, triple digit hours, upgrading hardware just for it. Clearly something is wrong with me, but my insurance does not cover video game related mental symptoms.

Sekiro. Made it to the last guy, died a dozen times and just said fuck it. Which was a shame because I loved all the rest of the game but that last guy was just no fun.

Then the same day I played and quit enter gungeon. I learned that day I fucking hate roguelikes.

no, not 'probably'. 'definitely'...

same. the environments weren't all that interesting to explore, & there weren't a whole lot of goodies to find. aside from the enemies, it was just a pretty barren world...

The Fifth Element for PS1.
I got lost too much in those labyrinthine levels and ended up buying a PS4 so I quit and never looked back.

Metal Gear Solid 5

Revisiting the same handful of locations over and over and over again, spending excessive amount of time in loading screens, and waiting on literal timers to progress my arsenal got very, very old, very very quickly.

What an utter mess of a game.

It would be this boring-ass game for me too. I didn't really like RD2 and also found it boring but stuck it out because it was beautiful, the voice acting outstanding and I loved the horses.

MGSV was just an ugly, boring, repetitious mess and I can't begin to understand the review scores or fawning praise that game got.

Only ever gave up on one game and that was Viewtiful Joe. I busted my ass off trying to defeat the bosses again in a boss rush-esque fashion, only to have to fight Fire Leo right after. I don't even think there was a save point between all that.

I just couldn't hang and threw in the towel. It was too much.

I don't know how I am feeling about Monster Hunter World. It could be I am not use to slower pace action games. (I really like the DMC series). Or what I'm not gonna give up on it yet, and will see how i goes.

Max Payne 3.

The cutscenes with those headache-inducing, jarring filters and weird blurring got to me. I would've gotten further but there's a cutscene like every 2 minutes.

Ori and the Blind Forest. Not just because it was hard but because the level design made figuring out where to go so damn difficult.
Fuck that game.

I like faster paced combat as well. But MHW is not that style game. The best I could do was find a weapon I liked the most and stick with it. The combat is methodical and very determined compared to most Japanese action games. If you can come to grips with that, the game has a lot to offer. I would have enjoyed the game more if the combat was more my style, but it did grow on me the more I hung in there, and it was fun watching my skill with the Long Sword increase.

How far did you make it? I love DD. It's one of, if not the best, ARPGs ever made in my opinion

To be fair, i love roguelites but do not like Gungeon. There is way too much information that's hidden from the player and while most roguelites are platformers to some extend, Gungeon is not. Have you played Dead Cells? That's the right way to do a roguelite. In that game it's pretty clear how to progress while still having a lot of secrets and the combat doesn't drag on and on if you didn't get a great weapon on level 1

On the verge of dumping Yakuza Zero. The random street thugs make me hate exploring the world, it is fucking painful.

Also not a fan of having ro learn new moves and start from zero in an rpg because they switch the MC out for narrative reasons.

One of those games i really want to like but dont.

I gave up on Nioh and Seikro. Its a shame. It just became so frustrating dying over and over again.. I went back to nioh with max character stats cheats. At that point I just wanted to progress the game and story. I progressed a few levels further but I quit.

Seikro was just due to not knowing where to go.

i'll list a few more games for the fuck of it, i use to power through games but as ive grown older i just dont have to time or patience to deal with stupid bullshit

red dead redemption 2 - i loved the first rdr and im a big fan of westerns, but i cannot handle janky controls and player movement, which is a shame because this game has a great open world and great dialogue, the atmosphere and graphics are top notch, those aspects got me all the way to chapter 3, but my god is the game a chore to control, especially coming off of games like nier automata, spiderman, horizon zero dawn, cuphead, super mario odyssey, all of which had tight responsive controls that were satisfying

witcher 3 - loved the atmosphere and the environments but as mentioned above when player movement does not feel good or satisfying i stop playing instantly - didnt even beat the griffin

enter the gungeon - i might come back to this one as i dropped it rather quickly, i just did not like the twin stick controls for this on the switch, maybe i need to give it the time of day and it'll click

MGS4. I did finish it normally, but I was at some point considering a platinum. After the third playthrough, common sense prevailed.

Vietiful Joe

I remember the fight against all bosses then the first Battle with captain Blue...without checkpoints

Divinity Original Sin 2.

I don't know exactly where I got to but last thing I remember was dealing with some pigs that were on fire. The game wasn't bad but it just felt really overwhelming. I might go back to it if there's ever a good sale on the Switch version and if I can transfer my Steam save over. I just have way too many games to be playing at the moment.

RDR2. I just can't deal with the very limited fast travel. The game doesn't respect my time. More than half the play time has just been travelling to places and I fucking hate it. Driving a car in GTA is actually fun, and you got the radio, riding a horse in RDR is fucking boring and tiring for the hands if you wanna go fast. But even as fun as driving in GTA is, I still fast traveled via taxis most of the time.

Nioh and Divinity Original Sin. Nioh was becoming more and more difficult, I couldn't wrap around my head the changing of stances and that Ki whatever mechanic, it became increasingly complex when all I wanted was to slice demons. I just wanted another Onimusha game, I guess.

Divinity Original Sin was also quite complex. I felt that every encounter I had to use a lot of brain power to get through...which is not I want from a video game honestly.

Spiderman for PS4. Game got too repetetive and I have to say was... a bit childish (mostly because of voice acting - was playing in polish dubbing, there was no choice of switching to english).

Red Dead Redemption 2. It's pretty and the world is cool and filled with details but interacting with it, even on a basic level (i.e. controls and player response), demands patience that I just don't have, it seems.

Witcher 3 is for storyfagging. As a game it's barely functional at times.

It says a lot when the best playing part of your game is the minigame.

Control. I've said this previously but after around 3 hours, I lost the will to play it. I can't put my finger on it but I just lost the will to carry on.

Fire Emblem Three Houses.

I hate running around the stupid monastery asking around for who dropped their item. The persona inspired relationships stuff isn't interesting at all to me, while it didn't bother me in those games. Over half the game is that and I hate it here.

Absolute chore of a game. I just want to do battles and have some light story.

It's on my shelf and I'll try again down the road sometime.

I really enjoyed the game at first, but now that i'm doing the same shit on Chapter 19 at this point i'm only going through the motions to see the end of the game because of gone this far. The game started off super strong for me and I really liked it though I despise SRPGS, but then it just got to be the same things over and over which kinda made me lose interest.. Astral Chain coming along didn't help

Hoping to finish both before Links awakening and Ni no Kuni on Friday!

Blair Witch. It starts off pretty strong, but it wasn't engaging enough for me. I got tired of telling the dog to run off and search. I kept having to walk down a path. The stuff you could pick up and examine was not all that interesting. "Here's a missing poster of the boy", yeah that's great except I've seen this missing poster 4 times now. Picking up objects feels like the developers over complicated the controls. You don't feel like you're fluidly interacting in this game. I feel like the reveal trailer made the game look better than it actually is. I'd much rather replay RE7, which felt like a much better experience. The whole woods shaped like the Blair Witch symbol and gathering wooden idols isn't grabbing my attention.

The Witcher 3 once I got to the spider boss from that one quest. This is more of a personal play style mismatch with how they want you to play the game. I never follow the intended paths in RPG's. I just explore and deal with what I come up against as I encounter it. Had a blast in Skyrim playing this way. The ability to just explore and clear location by location was a joy.

When I encountered the spider I tried to beat it like 10 times. Attacking and dodging flawlessly for 10 minutes dealing very little damage and getting killed by the first little hit I took frustrated me enough to say, "fuck it, I'm out". I know the game is a masterpiece but I just hate the level scaling that doesn't take into account your characters level.

Witcher 3 - spent 50 hours trying to convince myself the game was fun and that it must get fun soon everyone loves it so much. Then one day I just accepted that I don't like it and I'm not having fun.

FFXIV - despite everyone saying the story is amazing I found myself to have zero care for the characters or world. It also doesn't feel like a world it's so heavily instanced and the zones are so lifeless. It also really irks me that the new expansion still only has voice acting for the MSQ in a game that makes ungodly amounts of money and there is no reason they couldn't fully voice the game, or at least the new expansions, when games like ESO and most any other modern title do so.

ARK - after spending hours taming a dino just to watch it quickly die to another dino, and going through that same process a few times over a few days accomplishing literally nothing in game, I said fuck this.

The Surge:
I love the souls formula so I though this would at least scratch the same itch but I just wasn't enjoying it. The combat never clicked with me and it does this thing where a lot of characters don't seem to react to my attacks (or don't do so in a consistent way) which tends to be a dealbreaker for me.

Total War Warhammer 2:
This one is my fault as I simply expected it to be something else and didn't do proper research. I was looking for something combat heavy with big epic fights that would be similar to battle for middle earth 2. But a large part of the game turned out to be more of a turn based strategy game with a rather steep learning curve with the occasional big battle that didn't look as nice as I hoped (large numbers, yeah, but the 3D models and their animations are pretty crap)

I'm reading 'considerable amount of time' in terms of % completion. I've put down a fair number of games several hours in but only having completed a small percentage of the story: Both numbered Xenoblade games, for example.

Most memorable instance for me is def. Valkyrie Profile 2. I put the game down at the final boss. Basically he kept kicking my ass and I couldn't figure out how to mitigate Meteor Swarm. Very rare for me to not tough it out once I cross the 50% barrier and especially at the very end like that.

Final Fantasy 15 , god i hated it , combat wasn't my thing (FF12 as the best combat ) , the Characters annoyed me , the only saving grace was that female mechanic whatever her name was. Turned it of and never turned on again.

My man.

Valkyria Revolution.

Just really bad. I ignored the reviews and got it because I liked Valkyria Chronicles. Yeah, not a good idea.

Fuck Ark. What a piece of shit. Idc what anyone says. Come at me.

Finished this over the weekend. Pretty average. I suspect this had nothing to do with Blair witch at one point and somehow the license ended up involved.

No I never played dead cells. The roguelike games I've played frustrated me. I hated dying only to go back to nothing without the chance to progress aside from straight out memorizing everything.

RDR2.

I used to love R* games but seriously every game of them is more dense and boring than the previous one.

Yup, i agree with that sentiment. That's why i dislike Gungeon but love Dead Cells. In Dead Cells, as long as you can complete the first level you will gain progress because you can upgrade abilities and even upgrade the potential power of any gear drops going forward. That's the correct way to do roguelites in my opinion. Of course it doesn't hurt that everything else about the game is top tier. The movement, the combat, the metroidvania element where you'll acquire new powers which enables you to access new areas in the early levels, the setting, the music. It's all fantastic

Kingdom Hearts 3 for me.. I was kind of enjoying it, worlds were cool, graphics were great, but soooooo much talking. Just not my cup, I never played any of the other ones, maybe that had something to do with it.

Stopped the Witcher 3 at about 40 hours. I hated the character and horse movement a lot, and the combat was really simplistic and button spammingly easy. I played on the second hardest diffculty, which becomes trivially easy, almost impossible to die after leveling your skills a bit. So I turned it up to the highest difficulty and realized not only is this still not enjoyable, but now each encounter takes twice as long as I've now doubled all the enemies' health. So now I would have to spend twice as much time on encounters that kind of suck. That's when I realized I just don't like this game. The world and its characters and monsters were fascinating, but the bad controls and combat made the gameplay not fun to me. I also hate "clear a million blips off the map" as a gameplay loop.

I stuck with it so long because I tend to try to complete every game I buy, and I really pushed through this one until I couldn't take it anymore.

I might look into that game. I like metroidvania style games but there are so many that are just garbage. Or I see tons of for but when I try it, like axiom verge I end up losing interest because I'm not having fun playing it.. Loved bloodstained though.

I never could get more than a few hours into the first one despite multiple tries. I didn't like the controls and the game itself was just so uninteresting to me. I tried a couple times on ps2, then on the ps4 remaster and it just doesn't click with me.

Duke Nukem Forever. It just felt so generic. Didn't like the combat or level design at all. When i got to some stupid physics puzzle involving barrels and containers I asked myself why I was wasting my life on this and uninstalled the game.
