On one hand, I feel like it would be great if people who send threats of physical violence over the internet had to appear in front of a judge and explain that they were "just kidding."
On the other hand, knowing it would require a huge cooperation between law enforcement and ISPs to determine your actual identity would lead to everything you do on the internet being tracked. That's not a precedent we want to set.
But realistically, even if 0.1% of the messages you get as a public figure in your dumb social media account look like this, and the other 99.9% aren't, please stop pretending you're facing some amazing oppression in your life. Statistically, these messages are coming no matter who you are, and if your follower count gets really high, 0.1% of a big number means lots of these messages.
