Crowd is amazing, blurry as people said. I'm sure they could knock it up to 1080p on PS4 if they wanted. I hope it gets patched.
Hundreds of NPCs who stood around and did nothing and/or ran when two people got into a sword fight... The crowds are huge, but they just seem so un-interactable... what's the point? That just seems more like more people to get in the way when running and not much else.
A crowd that size is a big deal. What are you comparing to that the game's crowd tech falls short?
I thought they showed it on console @ e3. Might be wrong..

Might be PC, guess we'll see
Looks good and totally boring like every other AC except 2.
Ugh. Those combat mechanics. How anyone could think that they're anything but tired, boring, poorly animated and generally sloppy is beyond me
You're making the assumption that I'm criticizing the game from a technical stand point, which is understandable since most people are talking about technical issues here...
I'm talking about it from a gameplay perspective however. As a person who will likely get this game (I've bought most AC games) I was hoping improved tech would make for improved gameplay elements when it comes to crowds. The big crowds are an interesting tech show case, but if they are simply going to do the same things as previous AC games (comment on dead bodies, run away when anyone gets into a fight) it seems pretty pointless to me.
It's one thing in a gun fight for a massive crowd to become startled and run, but when 400 people run away from 2 people in a one on one sword fight it also just looks a little silly and immersion breaking.

I hope Day 1 fixes the pop in but I'm not holding my breath. The large crowds aren't worth it, imo, if it can't be fixed.
I really never quite understand the hate for AC's gameplay. You have plenty of variation to tackle your objectives in Unity and the combat is overhauled towards an extent that countering is never going to be effective, thus running away and hiding becomes more prominent.
I never hear complaints that shooters have the same gameplay. That each scenario is always shooting the same enemy until it dies.
I never hear complaints about driving games. That each track is a simple line forward with a few twists and turns.
I never hear complaints about fighting games. That each battle is you constantly using the same 2-3 buttons to punch/kick an opponent.
But everything is boring in AC. The traversal. The combat. The objectives. The extra's.
The blind hate some of you have is childish at best.
We aren't seeing retail versions of MGSV yet thoSame thing in a kojima/konami game doesn't cause same reactions...So is pop in the real problem or them being in a ubi game ?

and framerate/resolution is bad excuse (imo) given the result.

You're obfuscating the point a bit. Great mechanics are fun and satisfying even after the 500th hour, regardless of how repetitive they are. AC has never really nailed its combat or stealth mechanics in this sense; quite the opposite, actually.

The traversal is clumsy and it's quite easy to accidentally do something you don't mean to. The stealth mechanics have historically been really bad. And the fighting is braindead easy. There are no difficulty settings, either.
Or it's people have different opinions then you?

After people complained in AC1 that there wasn't enough variety, ACII started introducing new layers to the game that weren't part of the central game. In each annual installment after ACII, these got progressively more bloated. They're all pretty shallow, and it wasn't until the sailing got introduced that we had something people seemed to like. Ubibloat and Ubification are terms coined regarding the proliferation of broadly meaningless side-content and convergence of all their open world games into feeling like homogenized, overblown busywork simulators.
While they added more and more "stuff that isn't Assassin's Creed to prevent you getting too bored", the core gameplay issues were never addressed. AC:U looks like it might have improved stealth, but I'll hold my judgement there until I play it.
We aren't seeing retail versions of MGSV yet tho
I never denied that, did I?
All of which seem to get fixed in Unity but I agree that the stealth mechanics were practically non-existent in the previous titles, which lead to more frustration where getting caught leads to an instant mission failure.

The crowd looked nice, and the graphical problems looked like things we have seen before in AC games. Maybe if they dropped resolution to 720p we'd get less people appearing out of thin air... Or longer dev cycle, or making the game ps4 exclusive, but neither of those are going to happen.
It's like NeoGAF thinks AC is a lasting AAA series for no reason. I find their vision of Paris stunning and incredibly standout. This series has an identity that I'm quite fond of - history, traversal, skirmishes and then some.
But you called people with different opinions than you "childish".

okay to give more context, they said in their demos they are in progress on improvements and have finished some aspects of lighting and cover interactions, so there's obviously hope for that retail build since it already has some things better than Ground Zeroes at least, and it doesn't have a release date yet.Easy escape here but i hope you're not naive enougth to think they'll all magically dispaear on release (and they had no problem to relase ground zero with them)
Nope. Never said that.
I said that some people have blind hate for every single AC game that got released and for the one that needs to be released without actually reading up on the big changes that are present in Unity.
''It looks great but it looks to be the same boring AC''
That is what I reacted on. It's an opinion, I agree. But it is not an opinion filled with views as to why he or she thought it was boring.
Some people just bash every single AC game because it is created by Ubisoft. I have read past dozens of posts from the previous Unity threads and there is a substantial hate for this company going on here.
People comparing Unity to a PS2 game or iOS game and what not..

Honestly, looks really good. The animations are so perfect.

Perhaps I am starting to become biased with a lot of Unity bashing posts around here. The last few days I have seen the new low on GAF.

That crowd pop-in is the single most immersion-breaking form of pop-in that I have ever seen. By far. The crowd size is simply *not* worth it to deal with that and they should have trimmed the cap down to a point to where it could never happen.
