Hopefully this'll force them to bump up Friday Night Lights.

Like, almost certainly this will.
I dunno...

Gaspin: "We're not going to do 5 new dramas at 10 o'clock." Expect 2 dramas in the slot, more Dateline and some other juggling.

Well there you go:

NBC has Friday Night Lights available to them as of March 1. Not clear if it'll air that soon, though. 2 minutes ago from TweetDeck

Well, one drama, maybe.

I guess they could start around March like the above post says.

Hopefully they do it Michael Scott Paper Company style and take all the best L&O characters to LA. Ice-T & Belzer are the main cops while Briscoe's grave stands in for inspiration when the cases get too hard. Hartigay & Anthony Anderson stand in as cop team B. McCoy & Batman's dad also become a dynamic duo of lawyering bosses.

Seriously people, do this right = best show ever.

What about some insanely hot ADA to help Cutter and McCoy?! Thats an L&O staple!
Change-up the formula for the West Coast, baby! It's LA - FREE LOOOOOVE MAN! McCoy is all the sex appeal you need!

Also:

Gaspin says he's not sure if FNL will air in spring. They're meeting this week to discuss how to fill 10 p.m. post-Leno.

From the TMZ article:

We broke the story that Jay Leno will be reclaiming his old time slot. There has been speculation that NBC exercised a loophole, which would allow the network to give Conan a portion of his time slot back (12:05-12:35) without having to pay Conan a penalty -- but sources tell us that is not the case.

We're told NBC is in breach of it's agreement with Conan by moving the start time of his show. As a result, Conan now has three options.

Option 1: Quit the show and spend the next four years at the beach. If Conan does this, our sources say NBC would have to pay him the value of his contract. We're told it's a five-year deal, worth as much as $20 million a year. With four years to go, Conan could conceivably get $80 million. But given his skin pigmentation and, possibly, his ego, the beach is unlikely.

Option 2: Go to either FOX or ABC. This is where it gets complicated. If Conan were to strike a deal with either network to do a competing show, any salary Conan pulls in would offset the obligation owed by NBC. So, for example, if Conan made $20 million a year at NBC and ABC were to pay him $15 million a year, NBC would only owe Conan $5 mil a year for the four years remaining in his contract.

Option 3: Eat crow and take the 12:05-1:05 time slot. If Conan takes this option, our sources say it's likely NBC would negotiate a new contract with the same salary Conan was getting before. Even though the salary isn't supported by the time period, it's cheaper than paying him off. NBC, we're told, prefers this option, because Conan would not be splintering Leno's rating by going to another network.

I think he should do option 2, but have a really low dea, forcing NBC to pay the majority of his salary for being on a competing network :lol it would be the ultimate payback if he does well

Can Conan sign a long term contract that pays low in the first 5 years and double up later on? That would be ultimate fuck you to NBC.

That would be his best option I think. It allows him to go somewhere where he can have a lot of freedom (Comedy Central PLEASE) and still rake in the dough after being fucked over by NBC.

Hell yeah.... Get Fox to pay him a dollar. :lol

They're seriously considering giving Leno 30 minutes at 11:30 to do the Tonight Show and then have Conan do his Tonight Show from 12-1? That's ridiculous.

NBC should say "hey Leno you suck. You bombed at 10pm, go away" and fire him and keep Conan and Jimmy Fallon where they are. By trying to move Leno back into late night they're saying "Oops we screwed up! And Conan, you suck too!" So what they want to do is completely reschedule the late night lineup, instead of just cancel the 10pm show and keep it the same. Leno is damaged goods now anyway. If he goes somewhere else then it's not going to be a big loss for NBC.

NBC should just give Leno a car show. Sort of like his garage Internet site. At this point I'd rather watch him do stuff related to cars than another talk show. NBC needs to grow a pair, tell Leno he's done, and give him a daytime car show. I'd watch that.

Leno likes comedy, but this is what should happen. Give Leno Top Gear USA but call it something else of course. It would be absolutely awesome. And he can even throw in some comedy.

And if the comedy really is his life as he portrays it (spending 3-6 hours per show preparing), he can always go on tour. He'd kill at it and it'd stave off his craziness.

This. I may not like Leno's show, but his love of cars could make one hell of a good show I think.

They offered him a US version of Top Gear awhile back and he declined.

What happens to Carson now? I don't watch him but poor guys feelings are never even considered when shit like this comes up. Hah.

Oh and Jesus GAF, you really love to suck Conans dick. I find myself watching him less and less as I get older. Letterman appeals to me most now.

Conan needs to start doing something different. His schtick is just boring now.

Yah yah pounce on me. I don't give a shit.

Yeah, I still don't understand this at all... I'd assume it's cheaper to get rid of the 1 1/2 years Leno has left on his deal than get rid of the 5 year deal for Conan... these people are so short-sighted it's not even funny... give Conan a chance to build an audience unencumbered by Leno and I guarantee he does much better than he is currently.

That would actually be a pretty good idea. He would be a great fit for it too.

Only problem is that it may not take off. It would be a major hit on a cable station for sure, but on network it may not be able to compete.

Carson gets a good mention in this clip from Jimmy Kimmel, where Jimmy takes questions from the audience regarding this whole late night situation:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYzapxtLQbM

It sucks, that clip was cut short, I watched it live, before he takes questions, there was a quick bit of him explaining how the pie represents the amount of shows/time slots that can be taken up, and he starts slicing it while explaining naming people, and then he starts eating the pie. Guillermo brings out whip cream for him (which represented the white people said Kimmel, still chowing down).. then as though he forgot what the topic was initially, he started talking about tiger woods, it was amusing.

Looks like more will be coming in the next day or so.

Let me get right to it. The Jay Leno Show. On February 12th, Jay Leno will no longer air at 10 PM. While it was performing at acceptable levels for the network, it did not meet our affiliates needs, and we realized we had to make a change. My goal right now is to keep Jay, Conan and Jimmy as part of our late night line up. I have spoken to all of them and proposed that The Jay Leno Show move to 11:35 PM, Conan move to 12:05 AM, and Jimmy to late night at 1:05 AM. As much as I would like to tell you it’s a done deal, we know that’s not true, “ adding that the talks are ongoing.

He'll either stick with The Tonight Show, or go with another network. Either way, he's staying in LA. For his staff, at the very least.

That hurts :(

I would cry tears of joy if Leno made Top Gear USA and got it done right with no half assed co-presenters. I really really really want it to happen. Just imagine the UK crossover features. Please, please do it =[

I can't even watch Carson Daly's show, because my local NBC news station airs a repeat of their 10pm show over it. :|

DHD just got hugely updated with a transcript of everything NBC said...reading now...

I thought Leno's ratings were pretty good, and it's just that he's a bad lead in into the late night news?

Leno is pulling in what he normally did on tonight show which is between 5-6 million. The problem is that there are shows on CBS like the Mentalist that pull in 17 million people...

He's a terrible lead in for news because some people just keep on watching the news on whatever channel they are on.

And they can't just say "hey Leno, you suck go away" without incurring a big monetary penalty just like they have with Conan... he's guaranteed 2 years and the deal he has is for 5 (just read that).

I still submit that if someone awesome like Adam Carolla who actually tried to get Top Gear US made couldn't have it, then no one else can, especially not someone as unfunny as Leno. Yes I am bitter.

Trust me, Jay would make for a great Top Gear host. Wish he would realize that. He said he doesn't want to do it because he wouldn't be able to review cars fairly...something about sponsors.

And when his contract ends? It's hard getting a raise when you make $1 a year :lol

Thing I read was that he was afraid that it wouldn't be made by "car people" and that they would screw it up so that's why he passed on it. Cars are one of his true loves though so I think he'd be perfect for that... I just really dislike him as a late night host.

I thought it was because they wouldn't be able to give any cars bad reviews because those same car manufacturers threatened to pull advertising.

No one wants that show.

Leno passed on American Top Gear? That's so unfortunate. Top Gear has so much comedy potential.

If you guys ever saw Leno on Inside the Actors Studio he takes comedy very very seriously. It's like an obsession of his. Yeah, he's not necessarily that great at it (though I still insist he has the best monologues of the nightly comedians). There has to be a way to convince him Top Gear US is what he should be doing, because it really is something he would excel at.

Also, with regards to the bad reviews aspect, what you do is review super cars mostly, so you're not really limited by bad reviews to any significant extent. Not only that, since this is Corporate America you can always get the reviews passed through the advertizers, bad review for consumer cars, then don't publish it. Yeah it results in really crappy advertizing for the consumer, but that's how it is practically anyway. It's not insurmountable.

It'd be a huge hit if they did it.

I'm going to hit his twitter up and say to make US Top Gear: http://twitter.com/NBCjay

Anyone else here who thinks he'd do good should do it, too. Not trying to pull a campaign here, but yeah. It sounds like they're going to try to do some sort of unthinking compromise with the 30 minute show, and it will be a complete waste. I don't think it necessarily hurts Conan or Jimmy, but it's still silly.

The video shows...
The first three people who had questions, didn't ask anything relevant to the late night shit going on.. one asks "can I see Tobey McGuire in the back room" (as he was the guest that night), the second goes "can I use the bathroom?" and follows up with "..well, then can I go see Tobey"... the third guy asks "how many ties do you own?".. finally, the last person to ask a question is Carson in the audience, and goes "whats going to happen to my show?"
.. honestly, it was amusing without attacking or really taking on the subject at hand, and he allowed him to go backstage to meet Tobey McGuire.

Yeah who knows why that didn't work out. Adam's perfect for a show like that because of his great on-the-fly humor and his love and knowledge of cars. And, at least according to him, everyone who saw the pilot episode absolutely loved it. Who knows why it didn't turn into anything....the people running these networks could pass for mentally retarded.
