Looking forward to Dragon's Dogma's Steam release - what makes the game good?

Why is this not Berserk: the game?

It practically is.

Berserk armor in Dragon's Dogma!

Does this game have any kind of online interaction? Or is it purely a single player experience?

You create a pawn (companion) that you will use through the game and also can be hired by other people and rated/rewarded/etc and vice versa (you can use other people's pawns in your game)

God, I wish skyrim had combat like DD.

I'm so damn happy DD is coming to PC, I can't wait. I fucking love video games.

One thing I'm looking forward to is being able to run lol.

When I played it on PS3 it was with a busted controller and I couldn't click the stick needed to run. So I was walking the entire time I spent with the game (which was many, many hours).

Think about this for a minute, you know it to be true.

Bethesda hasn't made any significant changes to their combat since Morrowind.

That seems cool, thanks. I actually prefer the game to have little to none online elements, so I'm fine with no coop or something like that.

PC version is gonna run so much better than consoles and I can't wait to see what mods come out for it.

They also can learn tactics against enemies when someone hires them.

Every pawn has some kind of learning levels against every monster, and when they fight them they learn their weakness and use them more in battle.

Honestly it's been getting WORSE since morrowind. Every iteration lost some bit of depth, even if the actual gameplay was bog garbage at least there was some interesting tidbits in there that would shine.

Like, just for one thing, imagine creating your own spells in Dragon's Dogma.

Me too, I like having companions (up to 4) and the level of online is perfect to me (I believe you can play offline too.

I do however feel ally AI could be better but that could all be my fault in terms of how I approached and built my team

Literally every multiplatform game.

I agree with that, I don't even play Bethesda games anymore to be honest. I'm just not in their target demographic.

Bought the game when it came out and didn't like it. Got Dark Arisen on PS+ and still didn't like it. Now I'm gonna buy it on Steam like a chump. I honestly still want to like it, because it seems like something special. I had to try God Hand three or four times over the course of many years before I liked it-- just had to be in the right space, and recognize its greatness.

The thing I disliked most was that, at least in the original version, there seemed to be no good reason to explore. It was cool being able to go pretty much anywhere, anytime, but uncool when the next quest brought me to the exact place I had just found on my own. After happening about five times in a row it killed my motivation to play.

In an RPG I'm ready to explore on my own, but it seems like this is a terrible idea unless you want to repeat everything multiple times and spoil what you're about to see in the quests ahead.

As far as framerate caps go, I think I can live with 150fps.

Always looked forward to playing this game but never wanted to buy the PS3 version because it just seemed to perform so awful. This IS by the DMC3/4 team more or less, so the combat ought to be amazing.

Should I start the game on hard if I want a challenge? I'm pretty advanced in terms of RPGs.

Unless they did some tweaks, Hard is VERY unforgiving at low levels. Everything will 1shot you, and your stamina will deplete way faster.

I figure they made it so we can have multiple characters now, so at least make a normal character and get used to your movement tech first.

I'm really looking forward to trying out the game

My question is: when you pick a class are you basically stuck with it for the whole game? Based on what I've read it seems like all of the classes are awesome in their own right, would kinda suck to have to start fresh every time to experiment (not the end of the world though, gives it replay value I suppose)

Also someone mentioned you get OP pretty early on which I'm kind of totally down for haha, just walk around fucking everything up for however many hours until the endgame shit kicks in

Only open world RPG ever made with a really good real-time combat system. TW3's is fine, but not great. It is in this.

Once you reach the main town you can change your class/vocation as many times as you like.

People said earlier that classes can be changed at anytime once you reach a certain destination in the game.

E: And beaten by a ninja class.

I'm starting to feel like I may not want to get this again.

I mean, the game isn't exactly that replayable. It is sort of a one and done game. Unless they changed something after all these years?

Nope, there is pretty much no penalty to switching classes and it is actually very much encouraged with how abilities and leveling work.

Why? What exactly is the advantage/disadvantage to those things?

Cinematic combat makes a lot of attacks go into slow motion and is just annoying after 5 minutes of seeing it. It just interrupts the flow of everything.

Every time a pawn says something (they talk A LOT!) text comes across half of the screen. It's extremely distracting.

Both of these options should be off as default.

Ah, excellent. Thanks!

I'm watching the Angry Review and the lack of fast travel is going to prevent me from buying this, I have no interest in running back and forth for 50% of the game. It looked really interesting up until that point :(

Maybe someone will mod that in. Anything is possible.

I believe they already fixed that by adding more waystones and what not.

E: Here is the info from the official FAQ:

Q) Does the game include fast travel?

A) Yes! The fast travel system has been revamped and became a lot more accessible with the release of Dark Arisen expansion content. Several Port Crystals (these are your jump portals) can be found throughout the adventure and placed anywhere on the world map as you see fit. In addition, price of the Ferrystone are has been reduced significantly from 20,000 to 2,000 gold pieces. Even better, we are now including the unlimited-use Eternal Ferrystone which can be unlocked after completing the quest “Off with its Head.” The item can be found in the Storage which can be accessed from the Gran Soren Union Inn.

The combat is so good it's worth putting up with it. Truly.

It makes more sense once you actually play the game.

Cool enemies, nice class system, great combat system(best in the open world category), one of the best character creator's out there, too.

Do keep in mind two things though: For the most part* the voice acting and script is horrible, aught is everywhere. You will get sick of hearing most* characters speak.

*There are a few standout moments for the voice acting. Like really really great voice acting and scripting. They're all too brief to save that portion of the game, though. You'll know them when you see them.

Getting ambushed on the road is a good part of the game. That being said, there is a fast travel system in Dark Arisen.
