Looks like Nintendo changed some outfits for Lin in Xenoblade X

The originals were pretty shocking I must admit...

Japan is so confusing... they are all about stuff like this, yet blur porn...

Fucking NoA. This is what happens when they handle localizations. Can we go back to NA not getting franchises llike Fatal Frame or Xenoblade, so NoE can be the one localizing them considering they don't bother with this censoring horseshit?

Edit: took the ThatsBait.gif

I didn't care much either way. The outfits scale to fit characters, so some people might consider it unfortunate that you can also put the 13/15 year old in a skimpy bra. However, that choice is for the player since gear is only cosmetic (no stats attached, as far as I'm aware). Still, it's better that they did censor this just because of the outrage it has already caused. Now where is the Zelda costume, Nintendo?

Man one of the things I hated about the original Xenoblade is how at times the best armour was a bikini for the girls and Swim shorts with no shirt for the guys..... it was just stupid both in how it looked and in the context of the game.

Seems like the Japanese version of Xenoblade X took it to a whole new level. So Im glad they at least changed that

In XCX you have the option to change your armor skins and keep your stats ^^

thank fucking god.

can't wait til this devolves into creepy gaffers crying "CENSORSHIP!!1" over not being able to see a 13 year old in a bra with underboob. (wtf)

woops someone got baited even when the bait is spoiled :^)

Ok. Even though that post wasn't up yet when I was typing. I'm sure you feel so proud posting that though. I don't play the stupid "lol, talks got trolled game". Shit was played out years ago and never was funny. I'm not a damn child.

Yep. This.
This is really apparent, very early in the original Xenoblade too. All the casual and swimsuit outfits consistently had better stats than the armored stuff.

both are equally shitty designs and the MonolithSoft artists should feel bad about them
This. Don't like either one.

Also wondering what the reason is for the messed up proportions on the left image, as many have already brought up.
Monolith Soft has always had bad character designs.
I don't agree with this, however, as there were good designs in the original Xenoblade. I do believe that they dropped the ball with Xenoblade X, though.

It looks like the first shot is just a combination of bad angles and lighting I don't think they adjusted her proportions. Look at how off the text looks as well (larger at the top smaller on the bottom).

Good, that was some creepy ass shit. The newer one is still a bit creepy, but is a vaguely more practical and seemingly in-character. Vaguely.

Good point. Still looks a bit weird, but localization never changes anything in terms of height proportions.

Yeah, that's probably it. She doesn't look right in the edited version, but it must be because of the shot itself.

The equipment in Xenoblade X was universal for each gender, rather than having character specific designs. Like I said in my post above, for the bras, what NoA has done seems to be to add an armored sports bra to her base model, with the bikini tops appearing over that when equipped.

I'm not sure what they've done regarding the bottom there though. Those shorts she's shown wearing there are just her initial shorts. So, either they've done something where the appearance of her shorts never changes, which would be pretty messed up for various equipment sets, or they just changed the bikinis to have the same appearance as her shorts, which might mean appearance changes for other characters too. Of course, alternatively, there's also the chance that the post was misleading and she isn't actually equipping the bikini bottom there, just the top.

See her original initial gear for comparison

I get why baby americans cant handle going to the beach or something but I wish they put some actual effort into the localized censored outfit. It looks like shit.

The top is fine, but the bottom, come on. If the bikini outfit bottom is literally 'default shorts' then it's an annoyance and a problem.

Way, way better choice.

I wasn't happy with the fatal frame v change (especially since it has some basis in the story) but this doesn't bother me much.

I hope (in principle) the costume is there for the other characters, but honestly the character models in this game are so ugly that I don't even want to see them dressed this way.

i dunno... angled pics shouldn't cause that weird proportion that much imo

pls... time to remember that not all stuff in internet is seriously serious

Well, they fixed the outfit, but her face (especially eyes) is still disturbing to me. Like an utterly soul-less, Lymle-tier atrocious anime doll.

Monolith Soft needs new character modeller.

See this other post

the person on Twitter just told me he only changed the top (added that to OP). The pants are just the default one, but I'm pretty sure it'll also look different than the JP version ^^

It seems like those are just the default shorts, not the censored version of the bikini bottom.

I guess we'll see something similar to the top then, with Lin having some kind of skintight shorts that will always be there and the bikini appearing over it. If it's really something like that, it's a pretty decent compromise, I guess.

EU version she is supposed to be 15yo and she looks more like 13yo, when JP version she's supposed to be 13yo and looks like a 15yo.

Outside controversy, only one thing: Get your shit together during the development process. When character designers are working they need to be aware that the game will be released worldwide and balance their character/outfit designs accordingly.

This is an example where the fault lies to the managers, both at Monolith and at Nintendo.
And that BS somewhat hurts the game. It probably required a couple weeks for tweaking it too, and the game is releasing late already.

I'm not surprised given the previous game barely was released in NA and now XCX is promoted as the big holiday season title for Wii U, though.

Yep.
I would often intentionally not use my best gear because of this. I would rather have an overall lower defence than running around playing as the pool party squad.

In XCX you have the option to change your armor skins and keep your stats ^^

Oh, good to hear. I wish more RPG's offered this option

Get your shit together Japan, she's 13, this is NOT ok.

I am positive I'll never use any costumes (I never do this in games, everything needs to be vanilla, I hate customization) but I have to disagree:
1. She's a fictional character
2. Her age is arbitrarily set and she does not look like 13 at all in the Japanese version
3. She's not a real person, so no one is being demaged.

That being said I find Japan's obsession with putting video game characters in bathing suits strange.

Good. I don't need want that in my game :/

So a bit like The Last Story, which has one of the best armour systems I've seen?

My copy is still sealed, I need to play this game ;_;

I wish the world would just end so I have time to complete my backlog.

The question is, why was there ever a sexualized, fetish outfit worn by a 15 year old girl in this game in the first place?

The outfit is a generic one for all the characters, it's not something designed specifically for the 15 years old girl. The issue was that it can be used on Lin too.

You don't like, don't use it.
Can't believe how some people defends any kind of censorship.

You can still use that costume on the other characters, just not on Lin. Is that a problem?

Lol @ people being confused about her proportions. Perspective people, it's clearly a picture taken of a screen from a high angle. Pretty sure her proportions are the same.

Very good change, I will never understand why people would want something like the original. Especially on a 13/15 yr old...

Welp, I don't even know why I bother buying nintendo consoles anymore. I can't even import the japanese version because somehow region lock is still a thing in 2015.

Lol @ people being confused at her proportions. Perspective guys, it's clearly a picture taken of a screen from a high angle.
This isn't how perspective works.

edit: actually, it is. Mindblown. :O
