Looks like the press isn't quite feeling "Ryse"

From what I saw, the conference demo consisted in a guy killing the same bald guy over and over by pressing X to stab his throat in the exact same way every time.

Doesn't look all that fun to be honest.

What a development hell ;\ So basically they've only worked on Ryse for more than a year and half.

Its nice that most people cant read though ...

They should have stayed with Codename:Kingdom.
But i would bet they would probably need to support that ip long time.
When we know they want to go free to play.

Hope to get some spartacus gladiator kind of action in multiplayer.

It was terrible. They should have opened the XBO section with TitanFall and closed with Halo. It was as bad as Sony kicking off their PS4 reveal with Knack.

Makes me hope that they'll revamp the combat. The atmosphere was top notch and I wanted to play as a roman legionnaire since Rome total war

Press Forward>>>>>>arrive to QTE>>>>>>>Press X>>>X>>>Press forward>>>>>>>>
arrive to QTE>>>>>>>>>>Press X>>>>>>>>>Pres X>>>>>>>>Pres X>>>>>>>>

Ryse is obviously a Kinect game converted to a button game.

It's everything we hate about motion controled games just ported to buttons. Rewarding players for just doing exactly what the on screen prompts are telling you to do.

Linear scripted qte-fest, yeah I can see why no one is clamoring for Ryse

Also the canned animations my god, does every soldier in the roman 'tetsudo' move exactly the same? Lol

It's like they took God of War... and made it even worse, and called it a good idea. Microsoft just felt so out of touch with nearly everything, from the system to the games.

Hardly. Knack looks like a video game. Ryse looks like Roman Mime Simulator.

Seeing a lot of this in the thread... Ryse is Roman. God of War was a weird take on Greek gods.

I thought it looked fine graphically, but about 2-3 minutes in you started seeing repeated QTE fights and it already started feeling slightly repetitive. I was never hyped for the game, but I didn't think it was going to turn out the way it did.

Well it looked very much like "Saving Praetorian Ryan".

A beach landing under ranged attack, a shellshock bit, complete with the guy wandering around without an arm...

Other than that it looked great up till the moment you were bombarded with QTEs. What would have been wrong with simple 3rd person melee combat? Attack, block and dodge buttons, that's all that's needed.

Sounds right. I was watching the conference stream with the Gamespot commentary, and the one guy said what everyone was thinking when they showed Ryse.

"Wow! Wow! I suddenly can't wait for next-gen!"

(first battle happens, QTE fest)

"Ohhhhhh...."

When I saw the footage in the conference, it did look to me like an interactive movie with all those QTE's, so I'm not surprised.

That demo was pathetic. Looked to be on rails as well as having no gameplay to speak of outside of "Press X to win".

And the design of the level was pretty much 100% Saving Private Ryse.

This game looked terrible. Watching that gameplay was frustrating, can you even imagine actually playing it? I'm not adverse to having some button commands for a finishing move, but they shouldn't be so frequent and happening between every, single, bloody combination. It's pathetic. I want to see more of that Black Tusk IP because it looked like a modern stealth game.

Like I said before, Crytek should stick to game engines, and not make games. After FarCry and Crysis 1, they haven't been doing such a good job.

The moment I saw this game at the Microsoft conference, it looked boring, never got how anyone saw this as fun.

It looked fantastic but the gameplay was awful. If they said, "let's show you our animations and dynamic combat" in the context of a beta or tech demo, then that sort of QTE bullshit would have flown way easier. As it was, it almost was a parody of Crytek's latest offerings.

For a Crytek game, its visuals isn't even that good. Gameplay wise, well, it shows that it used to be a kinect game.
