Looks like the press isn't quite feeling "Ryse"

Game looked boring.

They should add the playable character some companions and build the gameplay mechanics around getting into different formations -- like a The Wonderful 101 more anchored to real life. But I guess that would be a completely different game. Could even make it co-op!

I actually thought it looked good, it's apparently not as QTE heavy as people are thinking, and it also offers a lot of customization. It would appear I'm in the vast minority though here, lol.

"The melee fighting that began shortly thereafter felt very similar to Batman:ArkhamCity, with the basic principle being to strike with the X button and counter with the shield using the A button. I usually found myself facing at least two enemies at a time, which meant shifting directions with the left stick to block an attack and continue my attack flow. The main difference is that after landing a couple of basic strikes on an enemy a button prompt appears above his head - usually it’d be the B button icon - and when pushed something bloody happens.

Instead of incapacitating thugs with gadgets in the Batman style, you stab them through the neck with a Roman gladius sword. Or throw them on the ground and curb-stomp them. Or just bash their faces in with a shield. I did notice the execution animations repeating a little in the short time I played – more than one barbarian met his end via spontaneous tonsillectomy or by being contextually bashed against a wall when conveniently positioned - so I asked how many we’d see in the final product. “Over 100,” promised the Crytek rep – an answer which left me feeling pretty good about the odds of being continually shocked by new and creative murders. Is it a little macabre to find that entertaining? Sure... and perhaps it's apt that this is a game about a society that treated gladiatorial combat as a sporting event to appease the masses."

The game doesn't look great and it was hyped like crazy by Xbox fans that it'll be THE game that will showcase the Xbone. Mega Fail, the game looks so crappy.

You know, I wanted to cut down on the cynicism regarding everything games related especially during E3, but man ... that gameplay reveal.

I remember reading a while back Ryse was meant to be a Kinect game, so this line didn't surprise me

The second thing we noticed about our hands-on demo? How much it felt like a Kinect game converted into a controller-based experience.

Honestly RYSE was the most braindead dudebro game of E3.

The ancient Rome disguise helps nothing. Its completely soulless and unimaginative. People saying the settings is refreshening or awesome, needs to know, it has as much in common with that historic period as a beefy dudebro at a frat halloween party dressed as "That guy in Gladiator".

In fact i found a fitting image

To all the people using God of War as a point of comparison: have you ever played a God of War game? If so, why are you making this comparison based on the most superficial criteria possible?

Graphically it looks top.
Only the gameplay looks so clunky.
Either this is an extremely old build or they should delay the game half a year.

I am curious what multiplayer will play like.
Gladiator battles ala spartacus. Maybe some coop stuff ala Gladiator with roman on charriot and stuff or a fighting against a pack of lions. Shame its not a fantasy game in its own world like Age of conan. Something like a rift opened up to release mythical stuff back into the world.

My guess is that it originally was either wholly a Kinect game or mostly using Kinect functionality but then they either were having problems making it work effectively or they took note of people's cynicism and have attempted to adjust it. However, as a result, they've ripped out the original gameplay and not been able to redesign the game at large - so it's still largely scripted from 'scene' to 'scene' and almost on rails, as it'd have been were it for Kinect - but with button prompts to try and make it more interactive. It's a launch title so I doubt we'll see anything different.

I don't want any games to fail, but is this this going to be this generations garbage first party launch game? Genji, Fuzion Frenzy etc.

Seems like a new low for crytek, although I never really enjoyed their games. Nice showcases on pc, but that's about it. Did enjoy farcry and a bit of crysis with mods.

It looked god damn terrible as far as gameplay go. One, two hits with the sword and then BAM QTE FIESTA!

I'm assuming that the difficulty can be turned on for the final release.

I just learned that some reviewers play games on easy for their reviews and it bugs me when those reviewers talk about crappy AI.

This game looked awesome just from the screens on the liveblog I was reading. Then I saw the video. And the QTEs. Ugh, the QTEs

The game looked great. But having a QTE at each enemy is, to say the least, utter bullshit. Yet another indication that all Crytek knows is graphics.

Freaking Gladiator that came out like 9 years ago looked like it had more evolving combat than this.
And the strategy/army segments that led to the 'single battle action' were just cringeworthy.

And while nobody expects realism in vidya right away, when you make claims that you have advisors and experts that will keep it authentic and you violate that 10 times in 2 mins, it's a problem

Game looks like shit. Great graphics and theme, but the combat looks so bland and QTE heavy that I don't think I'll managed to play this for more than 15 minutes and not be completely bored.

I really feel like this game is the victim of a very bad demo.

Which it may be. But it's in a really bad situation right now. The developer can talk about how it's not all QTEs all they want, and about how the enemies had lower health than in the regular game, but the fact remains that the demo is what was shown to players, and until they can demonstrate otherwise with footage of the game, it will remain a QTE-fest in gamers' minds.

I do wonder why Microsoft let it have that long of a demo, because it really was a terrible showing.

Yeah, the gameplay definitely looked mediocre but I thought the graphics were fucking incredible.

When that ship crashes onto the beach and the sails all start tearing and billowing in the wind? That was really my first holy shit next gen moment of the show.

Maybe I'm just shallow, but the setting alone was enough to grab me. People bitch about the QTEs but I thought those kills looked pretty good.

It's probably gonna be a very directed, linear, cinematic game designed to show off Cryengine on Xbone. I'm totally fine with that as long as it does it well.

Anyone who is going "Its Crytek, what did you expect?" ever actually play a Crytek game? Or are you all just part of the "lol PC graphics too angular" club?

Cause this is absolutely NOTHING like what they normally make.

Far Cry, Crysis and Crysis warhead are three of the best open ended shooters of the past decade. And Crysis 2 was pretty damn good as well. As far away from this QTE fest as you can get.

Yes, this looks absolutely terrible. But lets not condemn an extremely talented studio over one game.

I wasn't sure if it was just the stream, but I thought the game looked really choppy and low FPS. To be honest, I thought it kind of looked like crap. In terms of the actual gameplay, I'm generally not a fan of QTE, so that kind of ruined the buzz I had for it.

It was build with kinect in mind, but they removed kinect support and had to add all this QTEs. And with all this it still managed to look like shit.
