Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360) Official Japanese Release Thread

Yea found the first boss (griffin) an absolute bitch to beat, the 2nd boss (snake) was fairly easy I thought.

First boss I had real trouble with was
the ones where you meet Mack and Cooke.

I didn't have problems with that one either, strangely enough. Blimblimb did though. The next boss that killed me was
the dino boss at the end of Ice Canyon at the start of disc3. I was kinda careless and it totally used the wall system against me. I was like "Oh, so he locked my guys from changing rows, big deal!", then the next turn.... OOOOOOOH. :lol

I thought you couldn't get a game over.

If every character in the party is dead at the same time. You get a game over. The game is pretty generous with retries though. Instead of restarting at the last save points, if there hasn't been a save for some time there's usually a checkpoint you will restart at that's one area before or something.

Woooo, so I'm not the only one who had a very very hard time with these bastards? I thought (and duckroll certainly hinted at this too) so I really sucked hard, but I guess I'm not the only one sucking at this game :D
And having this fucking long cutscene right before the fight didn't help...

So, after going through the first dungeon, how are you liking it? I think the game really shines in the dungeon/city layout design and the battle system/skills especially in boss fights. :)

I am liking it so far, although I haven't really had it blow me away just yet. Gonna tackle the snake boss after I get Seth to learn anti-paralyze.

Oh except the Dream/novel parts. They are a bit tough to read but damn they are worth it. Fucking fantastic, the first one really moved me. Kind of caught me off guard so early in the game.

I also didn't expect the music and sound effects along with the backdrops to blend so nicely in those parts. Absolutely breathtaking I thought.

Ah, sounds good.

Yeah, the flashback stories are really a piece of art. It's a really good execution of the visual novel concept. It's not easy to read, but they're really well written. The best part is you can just store them if you don't want to read it when it triggers, and when you rest at any inn you can select any one to read. I'm really interested in seeing how they format them for the English release. :D

Is showed in the last video Blimblim put on gamersyde. In the warehouse at grand staff. Also the beach section afterwards looked gorgeous.

Is it possible to access to them also from the gamemenu?

btw, its a pity Seth´s hair didnt get as much care as other character´s ones. From the back it looks much worse and simpler than others. Its a little detail but i was surprised because others have a very well crafted and animated hair.

You can access them directly from the main menu too.

Alright took out those damn snakes. Definitely just needed some paralyze protection.
Yeah, I had to go back to the staff contruction site just to buy more antiparalysis stuff too.

Yeah I just went back out and used some accessory i got to have kaim and seth learn the skill. Took a while, but made it a lot easier.

They could learn the antiparalysis skill? Stupid me :D

I dunno, if I had to pick a character which I feel is completely useless I would say Sarah.

Cooke is much faster and more effective. She gets really good skills that make her spells way less delayable, and cast even faster. Slap a MP recover on defend accessory on her and she's a healing goddess.
whoa whoa wait,
There is casting time and spell delay? Like all spells will not go off that turn or you can't cast a spell the turn after casting one?"

Yes, each spell takes a certain time to cast. That's why healing items can be very important since items are always first.

Yeah.
Spells by nature have a casting period indicated by a number and an alphabet. It goes from 1A to 2H. The number represents the number of turns, and the alphabet represents how fast within that turn. Each character also has inherent speed that factors into this, so if all enemies and characters cast a 1A spell for example, the fastest character will go first. But a 1B spell will always be slower unless a character is artificially buffed to cast faster. There are skills you can cast that buffs casting speed, and there are also passive skills that boost casting speed.

The next element that comes into play will be delays and status. There are attack bonuses (from rings) that delay casters when hit with a normal attack. When hit, the caster preparing a spell will be pushed back in turn order. Certain enemies have this bonus as well. Spells that take a single turn normally can be delayed to the next turn, if a spell is delayed pass the second turn, it gets cancelled. A status ailment like paralysis, seal, stone, etc can also be inflicted on a caster while a spell is being prepared. This will cause the spell to fail based on the status.

That is much better. I totally dislike spells being so powerful and getting off during the same time period as everything else. Casting times are my favorite.

Nice but not really comparable to a five minute long summon
that one in ffix argh

Honestly though, I think they should have kept some form of summons or an equivalent, they are excellent

Haha can you imagine how long the loading times would be with this game if it had summons, think FF12 x 10 :S

Heh, no not really. It's more like Holy or Ultima. The Corporeals in Blue Dragon were very summon-like, however, so I'll be surprised if this game doesn't have something similar eventually.

Oh, and Ark sucked. Eden rules. :D

Great then.

I was expecting the next video would be tonight to check now that i´m back at home but well, hopefully will be tomorrow.

Btw, has the ost release being pushed back to end of January?

Cheers blim for the vids, stellar job as usual

Thanks Blim.

This is it for me, no more videos, gonna be a hard wait. unitl Feb.
It's the last video for me anyway ;)
Afterwards would be much too spoilerish, and it's too bad since there are some awesome and surprisingly emotional and well acted (both voices and digital characters) cutscenes not too far afterwards.

does anyone know what's the dlc content up in the japanese marketplace that takes around 1,2Gb? it seems to be a video, but oh my god, 1,2Gb!?

Its a conference at TGS I believe.

Well, the TGS conference videos were big like that, so maybe that's it?

i'm not sure it's from the TGS conference because it appears in the New Arrivals section of the Marketplace. it also shows a date: 11/19/07.

did anyone of you already download that video?

In FFIX? Yeah, the best summon was Ark.

I don't remember it taking 3 and 1/2 minutes to load, though. And I think I'd remember something like that.......?

If you mean 3 1/2 minutes of animation, yeah...probably. The secret summons in FF are always ridiculous like that eh.

I looked through most of the thread and didn't see... But how much is this in Japan, and do we have a price point for U.S.? Still the norm of a $60 title even though it spans four discs?

Yes. MS doesn't charge more just because it's more discs. That's the price they pay for using a backward disc medium. :)

yeah just of animation...but actually I was playing 9 recently and you can skip them...also playing that game, it has no where near the amount of loading compared to LO, and thats on psone. A little disappointing.

Ha well, I lied. I'm doing one more video of LO showing some disgustingly cute and nice enemies. No spoiler except the actual level.

Do you ( or for that matter anyone else ) know if there is an OST or if the songs have been ripped from the CDs yet?

I asked about the ost some posts above. According to play-asia its release has been delayed untill late January.
