Ok i'm lost. Huh, it's the white city after the boat.

the queen went unconscious, but i went exploring around the city, now i don't know what to do, i go to the port and then i leave the town and go to this spirit forest but i can't progress there because i don't have a spirit energy user

?

I really lost track of what i was supposed to do. :lol

Go to the ghost town and prepare to get all sad
. That's the bit to the left of the port gates.

Can anyone who has been playing an import tell me if I'll even remotely like it? I know it's turn-based (poo), and I know it has random encounters (bleh), but is the rest of it (mainly the story) so good that it's actually still worth playing through?
Perhaps the first Oriental RPG I've played that doesn't read like it was written by a four year old. Play it in Japanese with English subs and you'll be set.

Cool, i went to the right the 1st time. :lol

Is it better than English voices? Those have been pretty good. Can i change them mid game?

Me too... spent a while exploring the forest before realising my mistake.

The lip-syncing isn't too good with the Japanese voices, but I've found Jansen to be more amusing and Kaim more ominous.

Just went through the sad part. Last time i was this impressed with a story moment in a JRPG was probably the dancing part in FF8. Obviously they have nothing in common, besides the fact that i saw something i hadn't seen before in a JRPg.

There were parts there where shivers went down my spine. Great direction, the music is really great...

That review by bebpo and duckroll where they trash the story, i'm sorry but i'm in the 1st dvd and between the thousand year dreams and this last part, this game has delivered me better story in a JRPg in recent memory.

*goes back*

I have a question. I've read most of the posts and impressions about the game, but can't remember reading about the flow of the game. Is it real linear, kind of like FFX or Blue Dragon, or does it have some options and opportunity to do some backtracking or sidequests throughout the game? I really like Blue Dragon, but most of the way through the game it was like, ugh! at the locales and general forced pace, and while the game looked nice, nothing really stood out to me. Now as I've progressed to the third disc with an opportunity to explore the world, some of the locations are really amazing me (the giant's village, and that underground one to name a few). I wish I would have had some freedom throughout the game to explore. How is Lost Odyssey regarding this?

So far, it's a one way ride. (1st DVD).

Think FFX in terms of progression. Though there is a whole lot of small sidequests in every towns.

Just finished Dvd 1, good thing my copy arrives tomorrow.

Man the 1st dvd ends on a such powerful note, the music, the dialog, the acting, the graphics.

Man i'm stunned, i don't know, the game has become such a warming and personal ride in Dvd 1, i'm surprised, i haven't had this much fun with a jRPG since FF8.

It just doesn't feel like a shallow game so far, from the story to characters, to the really cool combat to the characters to the thousand year dreams....feels rich.

Gotta say feels good to be hyped about a game and it delivering, at least for Dvd 1. Clocked in 12 hours, and i'm really excited about the rest of the Dvds.

I'm actually happy, shit i don't remember the last time i was genuinely happy by playing a game, feels good. I know i still have a lot of game left, but i don't understand the complaints about the story, from Bebpo and Duckroll. Sakagushi as won me over with this 1st dvd, i didn't play Blue Dragon, but i will after Lost Odyssey. Hopefully MS doesn't bail on Mistwalker.

Damn thats two Day 1 purchases in February so far. DMC4 and LO. I think i'm just gonna wait for a price drop on Dragon Quest Swords.

So....

somebody help with the Boss at the beginning of disk 2! :lol

the tank, i mean geez, shit is unstopabble

edit: Bah i was doing it all wrong, it was pretty easy

Wrika how are the load times, are they as long as has been noted (IGN and some other previews I can't recall)? I really liked Blue Dragon and was looking forward to this until I heard about 20 second load times before each random battle.

I haven't *ONCE* been bothered by a load time in this game so far. I can really only assume that longer times come from not having a HDD attached.

Or they could've been talking about a build that wasn't retail code.

Well, loadings aren't huge before battles at all.

I men you get the purple stuff lights, and then sure you see the battle area and then the characters.

Nothing extraordinary. The only loadings that are a pain are the ones where sometimes you transition to a new area, doesn't happen always but sometimes yeah the loading is a bit big, and there's these weird loadings sometimes between cut scenes, specially when it goes from real time to CG and then when it goes from CG to real time again there's a loading, i mean, what's the purpose of the CG right?

Yeah. Regarding the random battles don't worry, not to mention that so far, random encounters have been kept to a minimum, it's not like you take 3 steps and there you go again.

As a counter balance, random battles take a bit more time and are a bit more challenging than the ordinary ones in other JRPGs. It's well balanced imo.

There's some loadings between sections of the game that could've been shorter, but this ain't Fable 1 or anything, or shenmue. Don't worry.

I don't have a problem with random battles at all, even if they occur often. But if there is 20 seconds in and 20 seconds out, it'd get to be a hassle.

I'm glad to hear that isn't the case. I can handle some loading intermittently, but if it occurred constantly throughout normal game play it would get annoying.

I'm glad that isn't the case though, and I will be purchasing this on the 13th (or whenever it hits the stores).

I find the load times far too long, especially when transitioning from one area and seeing a loading screen, only to be taken to a character profile, and another loading screen. Even worse is the long time it takes to start some battles, with multiple panning, non-skippable battlefield shots. I noticed it in the haunted mansion the most.. about 20 seconds waiting before you could even input your command, which was flee most of the time.

ps im watching futurama now and I could swear Cookes voice is the same as one of the orphans, i knew i had heard it before because im a big stickler when it comes to repeated voice acting.

I want to limit myself to either Lost Odyssey or Devil May Cry 4, but I might just splurge and get both :lol
Gaf convienced me to get Culdcept Saga...but Now Im changing my mind to this >_>
I already have DMC4 and Working through Kingdom Under fire. And I decided go back to how I originally was a few years back with one new game per month. Since DMC4 and Culdcept come out next mont, no game in MArch then GTA4 in April. So tempting >_<
I may just decide to pick this up as a Summer release

I'm talking about Mass Effect type of stuff. I wouldn't to play it around my kids if there is.
There is about as much sexual content as FFX, or any other jRPG I've ever played/seen so far.

Oh this is actually a cool game to play with kids watching. As it deals not with sex but with love and loss.

It's a mix of upbeat atmosphere and sad atmosphere, it's really nice.

And the character of jansen is always there for the funny lines. And btw, i've found jansen's character to be the 1st character in a Jrpg to be genuinely funny.

Most characters that try to be like this in Jrpgs are always retards that are more annoying that anything.

did they look like intentional? like Gears of war cut scenes?

What?

You mean slow mo? No. I mean yes it uses slow mo sometimes for the cinematic effect, but i'm talking about framerate struggle.

But it's nothing major.

i see.

it's just Gears was usually slow in cut scenes, i thought it's UE3 problem or something.

Finally got to disc 3, I really enjoyed the last dungeon on Disc 2, very nice design.
Disc 3 started nicely with a nice looking and short dungeon, a long boss fight and then a HUGE city to explore.
Back to the game :)

Ahh... I should have used a faster shipping method!! Mine is still on its way... well, at least I have time now to study a bit for the upcoming exams next week. (<-- no way I would pass them with LO in my house! So actually, I am "glad"!)

I have a question though for anyone that played Blue Dragon:
When you have to change disc in LO is there always something "big" or something like a cliffhanger at the end of a disc like in Blue Dragon?

I really like the endig of disc 1 in BD and when I heard from other people that it will be even better at the end of disc 2 I hardly believed them but... it was really awesome. Even though I wanted to know how the story continues I felt: Yes, the first/second "part" is closed and was really great. Let's check out the next one!

Recieved my copy today. The cover art is gorgeous. The thickness of the case is 2x the size of standard 360 cases for those wondering. I'm about 3 hours in;

Let me start by saying that the Thousand Year Of Dreams is wonderful. The quality of the mini novels not only matches the quality of solid books, but the reading experience is also enhanced for the reader with the use of fitting atmospheric music and varying background themes. Reading these has been one of the most enjoyable aspects for me so far, and it definitely strengthens the character development and the bond the player has with Kaim.

The music is INCREDIBLE. Nobuo Uematsu is a genuis. In my eyes music has such a significant impact on the experience of a video game, particularly with RPGs, and here it excels to an immense degree.
The gameplay generally is solid, very traditional but enjoyable nonetheless. The combination of music and story telling so far is awesome, and is primarily what is making the game stand out so far.

BlimBlim, are you enjoying LO more than BD? i mean, do you think LO is better than BD? i know they have their pros and cons, but overall, which one do you think is better? as far as i've played i like much more LO than BD in a lot of different ways

Well I havent played the game yet, but judging by all other multi disc games(RPGs and the classic Resident Evil titles), i'd say yeah it will end on a cliffhanger/big event before disc change.

I don't want to read through the whole thread for an answer, will this game have dual language support like Blue Dragon?

It should, but this time the lip synching is actually matched to the english voices rather than japanese like Blue Dragon. At least thats what I remember reading.

Some of the music is pretty freaking awesome. Wait till you reach the dream about a certain island, i won't spoil it for you, but i had chills running down my spine.

And yeah, i'm of the same opinion as you, reading these short stories is NOT a chore besides what it might sound like premise wise (i know i thought it would be boring), and it really does give Kaim a level of depth that you would be hard pressed to find in other Main characters out there.

English, Japanese, Korean.

At least the asian version, and you can change it anytime you want. Pretty sweet.

yes...I believe it should, but indeed lip-synching is matched to english dialog
