Lost Winds (WiiWare) = instabuy

It says I need the final chest at Wither Falls so I think so.
the reason i asked is because in the game
you're initially told the locations of the final two chests in the same chat scene, and then the location of the 4th is repeated when you're done with the 3rd, so it wasn't clear for me whether you had done all chests but the last one, or you just knew where the final one is and was trying to sequence-break.

Anyhow, I started the game over and got about half- way through but am now stuck at the bottom of some cave because after fighting some of those blue globs somehow I've lost my wind power and cant get out : ( I think I've had enough of this game.
hmm. judging by that shot, you died there and likely used the resurrection-by-wind but for some reason the game did not progress as normal from there, so it seems you're in limbo. bummer. what can i say - lua ; )

Nope, didn't die it just stopped working after I killed off the blue blobs. Thanks anyway.

I've been told I have to go above this gate get to get into Wither Falls but I cant get up that high, anyone got any ideas.

why is your health meter gone then? keep in mind the death sequence in this game can be very unobtrusive, due to a combination of a simple animation and the seemless-to-execute resurrect-by-wind technique. another hint is one of your resurrect bars is gone ; )

i don't remember ever coming across such a type of gate in the game. judging by the look of it, it's a 'don't sequence break' type of gate: all the rest of the gates have an apparent 'do this to open me' look. this one doesn't.

Check out this vid you and can see that I wasn't dead, it just stopped working after I got tangles with one of those blue bastards.

Oh we'll, I guess it sucks to be me :lol Thanks again for trying to help.

Very interesting. It looks like what happened was that you absolutely did die, but it was in the air... Looks like a glitch.

I would avoid dying in the air in the future. It may even be localized to that single enemy.

Ah, i just noticed that. I guess it pays to stay alive :lol

You didn't have to start over; the poster who recommended it in the first place was probably being sarcastic. The first screenshot of the Wither Falls entrance didn't look like Wither Falls to me.

wow this game is pretty awesome. and so frickin' pretty! played it for about 1.5 hours.

sadly it just froze and made my wii crash :/

Just finished playing and the in-game clock tells me it took 3 hours and 07 minutes. So yea, I guess the 3 hour estimation to complete the game is pretty on target.

I have to admit it, I really did love it and am looking forward to the next installment. It was such a charming game and ridiculously relaxing. Just exploring the world was quite a bit of fun.

So, after playing for a while, I'd give it a solid-if-not-spectacular 7.5.

Very simple, pretty little game that doesn't take its concept as far as it could have gone. Would like to see a sequel that has more time to cook in the oven, but ultimately i definitely thought it was worth the price of FREE (thanks Anihawk, XOXOXO)

i've learned that you can bypass some of the puzzles by using levitating objects as sort of a springboard.

at first it was very frustrating to me because it can be tricky to pull off, but once i realized i was playing the game wrong it became strangely compelling, and i like it a bit more than completing the actual puzzles, usually.

to do it, find a high ledge that you can't reach by jumping. then take an object such as a boulder and toss it upward, and levitate it where you can jump onto it. when you get right above it, sling it upward, and if you do it at the right time, it will give you two more full jumps, which is usually enough to reach the high ledges.

you can also get stuck this way and have to reset your game

I did that to me too at the beginning. :(

Lack of energy Too many ugly environments Only three hours long Sometimes unresponsive controls Lacks personality .

whisky tango foxtrot?

$10, but too short? Unresponsive controls? Did anyone else have any problem whatsoever, that weren't related to coordination or experience? Lacks personality? What a joke.

Instead of bringing life to a dying land, you're spending time in ugly locales with no visual reward

With a presentation that lacks vibrancy and puzzles that never push the innovative gameplay mechanics, much of LostWinds is either boring or frustrating

Mother fucking ridiculous.

oooh, what have we got here? ain't that a pretty piece of journalism..

*takes out a beer, plays ghost rider on the tv and starts reading*

oh, almost forgot - before i've started - it needs be at least 9 or no buy.

...

nice. Tom McShea takes gaming journalism to new heights. reading that was time well spent.

*stops ghost rider, resumes habitual evening activities*

Now we'll have to buy Lost Winds 2 and Lost Winds 3 for ten bucks each, adding to about the price of a regular game for regular game length. :lol

I've played it a bit, but someone in this house has already defeated it. The engine is great with the controls, and the presentation value is off the charts. I do admit it feels almost like an awesome technical demo that has the potential for a lot more. I'm sure we'll see a future WiiWare release, or heaven forbid (mostly because my Wii is full already..) a disc release for a sequel.

I insta-bought it on monday but I finished it yesterday (My sister plays Mario Kart all day long...).

It's short but I loved it. The first 10-15 minutes I thought I'd never be good with the controls but I ended up an expert xD. I liked everything about it, the graphics, the colors, the music. I'm looking forward to the secuel(s). I did find the last part kinda... way too easy. After I found ther 3rd chest I saved and was thinking about quitting the game to take a shower (I was kinda late for a concert and the friend that came to pick me up was already in my house... watching me play) but I just wanted to know where the entrance to the last location was, so I walked the way Deo told me and after a few minutes I had found the last chest and I was facing the boss, the mechanic to 'kill' it were pretty evident cuz I had done it before in the game... It was over really fast, so fast I took a shower and got to the concert in time HAHA.

The game did froze once, going from one screen to another. And once I had to reset the game cuz I got stucked in a corner between a switch and a stone. Toku ended up runing upside down xD.

I think LW's pretty overrated around here (which really sucks, since I truly, genuinely, honestly want to support 2D gaming--but hey, LW is at least good, unlike those Luc Bernard aberrations are looking to be), but it's absurd to go after the game with complaints that the visuals aren't good enough, that the characters lack personality, or that the controls aren't responsive. I don't even like waggle a large majority of the time, but they're responsive enough here. Don't know what's up with the Gamespot reviewer.

I can't say I'd give this game more than a 6. Maybe a 6.5. It's really just, not that great. The froth was great, but in practice it absolutely fails in comparison to the absolute joy that My Life as a King turned out to be.

GS gave your "Joy" a 5/10 too. :lol

And no this game is not less than an 8

finally got my Wii hooked up to the new connection after the move and I noticed I had 1000 points remaining. So I bought this. I am not disappointed in the least. This is very impressive for such a small game!

i just saw that, i haven't had a chance to spend more than a few minutes with Lost Winds yet but man, game spot has been hammering Wii games lately. Boom Blox, FF:CC, Lost Winds, Wii Fit...they are all well below the aggregate score.

Clearly, Nintendo bounced a check.

Gamespot is so bitter because Nintendo doesn't engage in those huge ad $$$ campaigns on their site.

Whoever was reviewing the Nintendo games probably quit in the exodus, now they just look at screen shots and guess.

Can't read this thread 'cause I want to be surprised by mechanics and such, but:
1) This is an awesome full-sensory experience. Great controls, perfect music, and birdsong!
2) The kid's noises sound like hiccups and it drives my wife crazy if she's not watching it.

Loving it so far. Can't wait to put more time in.

I wonder if he was not killing the enemies on purpose or if he's just an idiot. O:

It's kind of terrifying playing and talking about a game on live video. I'm lucky I didn't lapse into Old English or something. With only five minutes, I was more concerned with just answering questions and showing off some different areas.

I enjoyed it, and it's a neat game. But it really lacks any form of depth. Really there's no reason to go back and play this game.

To be fair, people are giving you grief because you're a pretty big outlier on this one and the review length limit is low enough that you don't get a lot of room to explain why it really rubbed you the wrong way.

Well, the video isn't supposed to be a review. I was just showing off the game for people. I think I explained my position in the review text. I was really looking forward to LostWinds, so I was disappointed that it didn't click with me. Everything is subjective, though. My main complaints were about the art and presentation. If you like the look of the underground sections and the music didn't lull you into a stupor, you'll like the game more than I did. It's far from a bad game. I tried to make the review pretty positive (despite the relatively low score) because of all the good ideas present. It just fell short as a game. Personally, I am looking forward to the sequel.

Bought it.

+ Wonderful, charming graphics
+ Presentation is efficient and perfect
+ Controls work pretty well, it seems well-suited to be expanded upon
+ Music complements well
+ It reminds me of games I love

- 3 hours??? :( this is going to go by quick

I can't fathom a 5.5/10. This game is wonderful.

Well just picked this up yesterday and wow! I loved every minute I played of it. I still have to beat the game but honestly, its just so relaxing, fun, pretty, charming, and yeah... everything a Wii game should be. Will definetly pick up the sequel. This and Endless Ocean are just a great combo for relaxation station. :lol

It's "eco", not "eyeco", isn't it?

Or am I saying it wrong?
