LTTP: F-Zero GX

what's your build mayng? i tried it sometime last year and it worked pretty well, but the latest builds just run like crap for some reason.
I have a i5 2500k and two gtx 560s. GX was the first game I tested. Results?....

Lawd have mercy.

OK guys, I am only going to say this once. This is MY opinion and it WILL not change....

When running in the Dolphin emulator, at 1920x1080 resolution, F-ZeroGX, is the...

*MOST. BEAUTIFUL. LOOKING. VIDEOGAME. EVER. MADE.!!!*

No, I am not being sarcastic and no I am not exaggerating in ANY way shape or form! I have played and seen EVERY graphically impressive game out there.....Crysis, Uncharted 3, Skyrim with Mods, Witcher 2, GT5, Battlefield 3, MW3, etc etc etc......none and I mean NONE of those games looks as GORGEOUS as F-ZeroGX running in Dolphin at 1920x1080!

I just bought a new front projector. It is the very first display I have owned that supports 1920x1080. I was previously on a 720p projector and the jump to 1080p was absolutely incredible in this game!!!!!!!!!! MY FREAKIN' GOODNESS!!! F-ZeroGX looks soooooooo fucking good I honestly cannot put it into words! The emulator dolphin unlocks the true resolution of the game's textures, making them look like NEXT GEN graphics!!!

Please everyone, if you get a chance, play F-ZeroGX in Dolphin and set the display resolution at 1920x1080 and make sure you set the *internal* resolution at 4x native(2560x2112). I get FULL ROCK SOLID 60fps pretty much EVERYWHERE.

*sigh*....I just don't know what else to say guys. The game is exceptionally beautiful and the best looking videogame I have ever gazed my eyes on. Period!

Whats your rig and dolphin version?

It is my dream to one day own an F-Zero AX cabinet. I've only ever seen one once, and the arcade that had it closed down a few years ago.

got a used copy of this game for $3 a few months ago. haven't played it yet, but I remember renting it some years ago and pretty much getting decimated. can't wait to repeat the agony!

Yea, F-Zero GX was gold. I love it so much. I love pretty much any installment in the series, though, since they're all such great racing games. Here's to hope they'll make a new game for the 3DS or the Wii-U.

In any case, I don't know if it was posted or if the old site still exists (and I am too lazy to check), but it had one awesome feature, which was the flash machine guide. It doesn't contain the AX machines, but hey, still pretty cool.

Here's the download:

Hehe, Driving Through On Max starts playing in my head every time I see this thread.

Anyways, the whole series is amazing and Nintendo should try to leverage it as one of their hardcore series on Wii U. 30-man races at 60 FPS with leaderboards would already be a feat that completely outclasses anything done on consoles so far.

Then you've got all the creative potential of the Wii U controller; custom tracks, custom racer logos, even custom cars could be molded to the player's liking and give everyone a sense of identity that has only been seen in WRPGs.

If the game really takes off, the community could even organize an annual F-Zero Grand Prix with a mix of official and custom tracks that have been approved by a committee of sorts.

Just realized the game will be 10 years old in about a year. GOT DAMN.

Play it on Dolphin at 60 FPS all the time and its amazing how well it holds up to this very day.

Nintendo Publishers = GODLIKE.

I only played this game casually but I still think the boost effect is the nicest graphical effect in a futuristic racer to date.

Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

Greetings impact. Just curious but why would you think I'm on cocaine just for stating what is an bovious fact?

This so much

I'm glad someone agrees with me ;)

maybe you could upload some screens? :)

I will when I get a chance

I quickly ripped it to check out how it looks on dolphin, I took one pic but I can't run the game with the same amount of AA than what he's using, massive lag if I try. It's my 'Xenoblade' Dolphin I'm using so I didn't try to change many settings. Sorry if this doesn't do the game's justice.

Nice pic.

What build and settings do you use? I tried it on 228 and the latest revision but they both run really slow. Dunno why it's so laggy, I had no problems running Sonic Colors, Xenoblade or Skyward Sword on this PC.

OK guys I will answer your questions...

First off, here are my specs....

Windows 7 Ultimate
Intel Core i7 950 OC'ed to 4.0Ghz
AMD 1GB 5870
6GB DDR3 ram
2TB HDD

I am using DefenderX's build of Dolphin. I implore ALL of you to use either his build or Lectrode's build!

Here is a very important thread on F-ZeroGX that you MUST read and offers a lot of very helpful information. I was struggling to get the game to run properly until those guys offered some very VERY good tips!!!

http://forums.dolphin-emulator.com/showthread.php?tid=6957&page=6

Another link directly to DefenderX's build...

http://forums.dolphin-emulator.com/showthread.php?tid=22570

I am getting 60fps 95% of the time except for the tunnel in Sand Ocean and couple tiny places in Big Blue here and there.

I literally cannot express into words how fucking amazing this game looks!!! I mean mezmorizing doesn't begin to come close. Uncharted 3? Pfft, Crsys 1 and 2? Pffftt, Skyrim with mods? Pffft....like I said, NONE of them come close. You may think I'm on drugs, but I'm not. I hate drugs! I am not insane and my brain is perfectly fine. I say all of this with a perfect amount if sanity.

F-ZeroGX is the best looking videogame.....EVER!!!!! That is not a debate, that is a FACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh a F-Zero GX appreciation thread :o
I'm the proud owner of a 100% save of that game, may my memory card never die.
Fuck chapter 8 on very hard, fuck it. After chapter 7 on very hard I thought I had seen everything but noooooo that thing made me give up on that game. then 5 years later at college for some reason I decided to put it back in... Followed one of the worst week of my life but god damn it when I finally beat it I felt like I could take on the gods of Olympus and make Kratos looks like a baby.
Now every once in a while I do the AX cup on MASTER and troll the AI, some of the best tracks of the game in there and nothing beats crossing the finish line first with a golden skull, well apart from doing it on the AX arcade machine :p, I hope it's still there when I go back in Japan.
But for now I really need to get a desktop to run that beauty on dolphin emu :(

Turned up the contrast and lowered the brightness a bit on my projector, then turned on dynamic black, and it made a SHITLOAD of difference! Good God! Best looking game in the fucking UNIVERSE!

Isamu please tell us your settings in Dolphin for F-ZeroGX

Did you accomplish Very Hard F-Zero and enter your name in the Nagoshi Nation Database???

p.s. Daytona 2 is better

Daytona 2 of course may be the better driving game from a gameplay perspective, but I'm talking in terms of sheer eye-pleasure. It's really close between these two visually, but I just personally prefer the art design and atmosphere of F-Zero GX. Also as a racing game it is also excellent. Check it out you'd be surprised.

Oh and accomplish very hard? LOL....yeah sure, in my dreams! Or perhaps in the next life

I absolutely loved F-Zero GX on the Gamecube and I totally agree about what a spectacular looking game it is, especially when you consider it's on previous generation hardware, both in terms of the in-game graphics and the actual presentation of the game itself, with all the pilot profiles, story mode FMVs etc etc. I l really liked the soundtrack as well. There's also a huge amount to unlock in it which adds a lot to the replay value and it can do up to 4 player split screen which is cool.

My only criticism of the game is that unlocking some of the more exclusive secret content is just too friggin' hard. I had to use a cheat that gives your ship infinite boost to unlock the AX tracks and even then it was still really hard because most of the Diamond cup tracks don't have any sides, meaning your ship has a habit of flying off the track a lot when you're having to boost continually just to keep up with the highly, highly aggressive godlike-driving-rubber band AI, and you only get one continue at that level.

I've still got my GC and copy of F-Zero but I also gave it a try on Dolphin just to see what it looks like upscaled to a higher resolution - and it sure is pretty. It looks like it's going full-speed about 85% of the time, but there is a fair bit of slowdown and stuttery audio when there are a lot of other ships on the screen, although admittedly I haven't tried changing any of the graphics plugin settings.

Isamu, you should give WipEout HD Fury a try on the PS3 if you're a fan of F-Zero. As nice as F-Zero looks on Dolphin, WipEout HD absolutely blows it out of the water for sheer graphical loveliness -true 1080p graphics running at 60 fps. It really does look noticeably better.

Execellent post MTW. I suggest getting the latest builds of Dolphin and going to *THIS* thread for some good tips on how to get the game running well. It DOES have some slowdown here and there, but that cannot be helped right now, and they are working hard on optimizing the emu and it's getting better every day.

As for WipEout HD Fury, I've already beat you to the punch, dude 8-) In fact I bought it *because* I was in fact looking for a good alternative to F-ZeroGX. I have to say, the visuals do look nice but I haven't seen all the tracks yet to make a fair comparison. I can say however, from what I've seen of the first few tracks, it doesn't hold a candle to F-Zero GX's graphics. It's not as "wild" or "sexy" as F-Zero GX. F-Zero GX's graphics simple EXUDES style, class and all around sexiness! The way it looks in Dolphin makes you believe you are THERE! Right on the track in some stylish deep space city surrounded by scenery only Nagoshi-san can conjure up in that crazy mind of his.

It's just flawless to me.

Doesn't Sega AM2 not exist anymore? I thought they merged all those development teams a while ago. So if we had another collaboration, we'd be at risk of having the same people who made Sonic '06 working on it.

I finally completed the 1st Cup in Grand Prix mode in Novice! Go me! LOL

Staying on the track is a bitch sometimes.

Best looking videogame in the HEMISPHERE!!!!!!

heh, seeing this topic has made me recall something.

what's everyone's ticket count in their GX save datas?

here's my own cards:

main card: 12507 tickets accumulated and everything purchased in the shop. this is my main time attack card and has every staff ghost beaten.

secondary card #1: 23100 tickets accumulated and several staff ghosts missing since i have no TT times here aside from a few snaking times. this card is where i got every interview recorded back in 2004.

secondary card #2: 2474 tickets accumulated and everything purchased. this card has my Story mode times.

secondary card #3: 445 tickets accumulated. this is the card that i used in the AX machine. nothing is unlocked here aside from the AX tracks and characters and beating story mode in normal.

this could be interesting...

F-Zero GX is my favorite racing game of all time. I've been a lurker at GAF for ages, but this thread made me actually post something. :o)

Wish I could emulate the game, but I have no room or money for a machine that could do it. And my Gamecube still works just fine, so it's OK.

Yeah, if you cannot afford to upgrade and already have your gamecube connected and ready to play the game, then there's no big hurry. But once you DO see it in the emu at Hi-res, I promise you WILL shit your pants!!!

My specs
amd phenom ii x3
4g ram
G-force 460

It runs slow and choppy. Looks great though but not playable.

Dolphin runs much better on Intel architecture than AMD architecture, and F-Zero is a resource-hungry game. (Which makes sense, considering how good it looks at 60 FPS on a Gamecube.)

HD widescreen remake/sequel for Wii-U or for 3DS plz

Well, no HD, but the game already supports anamorphic widescreen in 480p when the majority of games were stuck with 480i 4:3.

BEST. GAME. EVER.

I also loved AX cab, but man it was super difficult to pilot your F-0 ship with it moving (you could lock it tho it wouldn't have been as fun) so it was more for the novelty/coolness of the cab more than anything, the GC pad is still the best way to ger serious with the game (GX).
You can also unlock AX tracks in GX.

Wait, it's up and running @1080p/60 on Dolphin?! The freakin' wiki said it was a bugged mess last time I checked (3 or 4 weeks ago). Can you share your experience with the game (glitches/fps/aa/rez on Dolphin (also build/settings, if possible)?

What team made this? Was is AV? Aren't they gone now?

Wikipedia said:
Amusement Vision was formed in 2000 and was then considered to be a second-party developer to Sega. On July 1, 2004, Amusement Vision and Sega's other subsidiaries, Wow Entertainment, Hitmaker, Smilebit, Sega Rosso, Overworks and United Game Artists reintegrated into Sega following the merge between Sega and Sammy in 2005, and a holding company, (Sega Sammy Holdings), was formed. The subsidiaries ceased to exist and were renamed.

...so, yes and no.

I HAVE A SUGGESTION/REQUEST TO MAKE!!!!!!!!

If you're like me and enjoy watching how other fellow F-Zero GX players do their driving, then you will no doubt appreciate this suggestion....let's start sharing and trading our Movies via the Dolphin emulator!!!!! That's right....Dolphin allows us to record us playing any Wii or GameCube game, and saves it into what is called an "input" file. This is not an actual video file that you watch in Windows Media Player or anything, this is a file that plays back the players recorded inputs from *within* the actual game via the emulator!!!! That means there are SEVERAL benefits over a video or mpg file....

A)The input file is much MUCH smaller. An average of maybe 3 to 4 mb!!!

B)The input file is being played from WITHIN the game itself, therefore the "video quality", if you wanna call it that, is 100x better than any video or mpg file could be, since you're watching the actual game being played, only by someone else!!!

Recording movies in Dolphin couldn't be easier.....simply highlight the game in the game list, then click "Start recording" and you're good to go!!! Works flawlessly and the file size is VERY tiny at a mere 1mb or so.

This is an AWESOME feature from Dolphin and I want to celebrate F-Zero GX's greatness by sharing input or "movie" files with you guys, so we can maybe compare times and stuff like that.

OK guys so I'll go first.... here is a TAS Dolphin Movie file I've uploaded. This is just a test run and I want to make sure it works on your end before recording a bigger "movie". Check it out and if it works, try doing one and uploading it here. Maybe a full run through one of the grand prix modes or something.

LET'S DO THIS!!!!!

Isamu, do you play this with a FFB wheel?

I only ask because I know the Gamecube version supported the Logitech FFB wheel that was released for the Gamecube.

Yes sir! The rumble feels great and is what I imagine the arcade cabinet feels like, only my wheel is better :D
