Madden NFL Wii revealed (not a port)

The fact that they customized the control scheme, which by definition you have to do, does not make it "not a port."

Except if you read the interview, they didn't take a game and customize its control scheme. They built a game from the ground up specifically for the machine.

That != port.

OK. This is the first new Revolution's game for today. I espect another one for still today.
Average 2 new Revolution's games are been annonced in one single day since the 20 April.

Well, about this Madden, bravo a EA !
They have FINALLY understood that ports will not sell on Revolution and that it is necessary to create the game separately specifically for Revolution's Controller. This is the right way to make games on Revolution and so, probably, theresult will be good, even from EA.

which would suggest that NDA's did end on the 20th. Fuck you Matt .:lol :lol :lol

The one time that the Ray Lewis/Nintendo pic would be perfect for, and you fail to give this to us. Why Gahiggidy? WHY!
Which one...?

EA has a whole studio of over 200 people devoted to PSP projects as well (Team Fusion) and they have put out nothing but ports AFAIK. I am not expecting anything different here.

This will probably be the Xbox version with enhanced graphics and the different control scheme. I'd be very surprised if it was truly built from the ground up.

OK, I'm dumb. Where in the interview does it say anything about building the game "from the ground up" for Revolution?

It seems that Madden's going to be have WIFI
as well, judging from the interview, the guy says he's very happy with the new controller and the Wifi.

...because you dont actually work for EA! YOUVE BEEN EXPOSED! :p

I'm just pissed I havent had a change to play with the revolution yet =(
A buddy of mine is working on a first party title. I think I need to go visit him at work.

one thing about this..

it will probably be a lot easier to play than regular madden. I'm a pretty hardcore gamer and i personaly find the controls in the madden games WAY too complex. I'm not a huge football fan, but back on the snes, i could play madden pretty intuitivley... not anymore. this should give the game a '"pick up and play" arcade feel. That will be much different than the other madden games. I'm personaly more impressed with the running controls than with the passing controls, but if the passing controls ALSO include analog aiming with the FHC, that would make it much cooler.

Very surprised that EA is going all out like this (assuming that it's actually not a port, as was reported) At least the controls will be unique.

edit: and this is exactly how i expected the first football/baseball games to be made... they will be designed to mimick the motions from the sports. That might really appeal to non-gamers who are also sports fans.

I always imagined Madden could be played by "point-and-pass"... that is use the pointer to pick out a reciever, press B, then quickly pull back and pass. I imagine it could add a lot of tension to the game as it would take 1-2 seconds to pull off a pass, meanwhile you are being chased down by your opponent's linemen.

It's a good thing the Revolution was built to run existing game engines. It kind of fits the bill.

Why are you people cheering? You have to make a throwing motion to pass the ball? What the crap? So much for sitting in your chair with the controller in your lap making simple motions. Good thing I don't usually play Football video games.

Now, I hate Madden (and all EA sports titles) just as much as the next fellow, but I do think this might be compelling to the typical Madden player.

At the risk of painting with strokes so large as to cause partial brain damage, let's assume that a typical Madden player loves the game for its quasi-"realism": the rosters, the players, etc. etc. etc.. The Revolution version allows for "more realism" by letting you act out the actual moves. I can see that as being rather appealing to the "mass market" for Madden.

Ouch.

Matt owned again.

i don't get the whole "matt owned" thing... as far as i remember the only thing he said about ea in that report was that we would get a "couple of games" from EA. He talked in a general way about ps2 ports being a problem, but i'm pretty sure eA was never mentioned specificly... it was just assumed by most who heard it (myself included) that he was including most western devs and EA would be the worst culprit.

anyway, i don't usually bother to defend matt, but DAMN there are a lot of matt haters here.

Thinking about other sports...

Hey, how cool would it be if you could mimminck "dribbling" with the RevMote for Basketball?? :lol

I hate american football and the Madden series, but this actually sounds like fun if done well. I may well buy my first ever Madden game. I think (hope) some of the gestures are a little less exuberant than some are imagining, but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Now bring on Tiger Woods, and FIFA if the Rev doesn't get WE (which would hurt it almost as much as missing Madden outside of the States IMO)

It's a pity EA doesn't make tennis games.

I still hate EA :P

I don't know much about it. Seem concept art here and there.
It's a new title. I should also talk to some of my classmates at Retro now but they won't spill the beans for obvious reasons ;)

Interesting a hint for a non-Metroid game from Retro, i like the sound of that. (not that i don't like MP i love it)

So how's that new Physics engine coming along for madden 07' 360 :)

It's... wait you won't fool me.
Actually I've been too busy to see what's going on in the outside world.
I need to go visit my old crew. I miss those guys.
I'm sure they've got lots of cool new gameplay stuff. Since they don't have to make the game from the ground up on a new system. That's all year to tune gameplay =)

I love how people are having this port/not a port debate about the Rev version of Madden.

Madden 2004 is basically a port of 2003 with a few updates, Madden 2005 is basically a port of 2004 with a few updates, Madden 2006 is basically a port of Madden 2005 with a few updates.

The rev version will probably have more changed than the usual yearly update does...but that's not saying much.

Hey nathkenn do you think the new Retro project might be a new IP?

They claimed they were trying with DS games.
Did they really?? All I remember is an interview where the head of the Marvel Nemesis DS team claimed he was excited, or something. But... it was still Marvel Nemesis.

I thought a while ago EA would just set up a seperate studio to do Revolution-specific projects.

They have more than enough work force ... looks like that turned out to be true.

Who the hell knows how this will play, but really ... who the hell plays regular ol' Madden NFL on Nintendo consoles anyway?

At least this is something different, and I think EA is also interested in getting "non-gamers" themselves. There are plenty of NFL fans out there who don't play Madden, this is a way for EA to make a version that's more accessible to a wider audience (ie: Thanksigiving weekend when you have your uncle/cousins/etc. over).

I'm guessing Harry Potter Revolution is probably also in development already.

Woohoooo, bye-bye skill-based gameplay, hello Wario Ware Madden.

It would have been better to question whether standard control provided better skill-based
gameplay over the revmote without sounding like a condescending troll

Well, according to one guy at EA... it may have been just the dudes personal opinion, not representing the company line.

well if this is just not a port, then it's a pretty big deal.

I want NHL 2007 on Revolution where I can point exactly to the player I want to pass to ... it's so frustrating to spot an open teammate and the pass doesn't get there.

Another cool thing would be to aim your shot by tilting your controller up or down (ie: dekeing and then going top shelf in the current NHL games is a pain in the ass).

God damnit who the fuck cares about moving the controller forward to stiff arm or bowling to kick, tell us about Tiger Woods golf god damnit! That game is going to fucking rock with the controller.

Yeah I would think of all EA's properties ...

Tiger Woods

and

Harry Potter

Are probably the biggest priorities for EA, Revolution-wise after Madden NFL.

You guys should calm down with all the Matt pwned comments. A few weeks ago on the IGN podcast Matt let it be known that some 3rd parties were setting up development studios specifically for the Revolution. It's highly possible that he already knew what was going down EA. I seriously don't understand the amount of hate the guy receives around here.

If there's any game that can possibly get an old man to possibly pick up a Revmote, it's Tiger Woods.

Interesting idea. A football game for Non-gamers. Hope its more arcadey then, just for my own selfish reasons :P

That control system sounds like total ass. The more descriptions I read of how exactly you play these games, the more it's reconfirmed for me I have no intrest in where Nintendo is going. Sounds more dorky and akward, than exciting and revolutionary.

what other descriptions have put you off?

QTF

I lost my DS for three months when I moved out of my parent's house because my Dad was playing Nintendo Touch Golf and wouldn't give it me back. The last game he played was Pinball fantasies on the GB Pocket.

He likes pinball, he likes golf, give him a fairly decent representation of the control and he'll play the game. Have him stopping a power bar to swing and he won't touch it with a ten foot stylus.
