Madden NFL Wii revealed (not a port)

I'm 36, I've been playing games since the beginning, and no - I'm not about to waggle my arms, wand, or anything else in my living room unless it involves frenzied participation with a female.

Also, I don't remember people saying game CONTROLS were silly back then. They may have said the whole CONCEPT of video games was silly, and that early joysticks looked pretty phallic, but 30 years on, I think we've gotten past all that.

Nintendo's new control scheme is a risky gamble that smells of gimmicky. Call it a novelty if you like, but gimmicks and novelties both wear off quickly. And that, I think, is what will happen here.

Small children and game dorks, mark my words. Non-gamers and casuals will never bite and hold.

edit: The Japanese may like it. Perhaps Rev will be successful there; I'm predicting a much more muted reception elsewhere around the globe.

i would have taken you post seriously untill you stated your age, not trying to diss you here pal. but i don't care if you are set in your ways. its all good and sweet. i have grown tired of the same old shit, its the reason i haven't bought a madden or fifa in 5 years. ti sthe same shit with new roaster. i want somethign new and fresh, you don't and its ok. but stop saying it is goign to be gimmicky when you haven't palyed shit, when you play the games then you have all the right to say what you want. gamers behave like they are 70 year old men, who keep saying that is how we have done it for years.

You think Madden 07 360 will be the same as Madden 07 PS2?

You are in for a surprise at E3. There will be more similarities between Madden Wii and Madden 07 PS2 than there will be between Madden 07 360 and Madden 07 PS2.

madden 360 and madden ps2 will be the same, down right boring crap that i have played 5 years running.

There are two fallacies in that statement. The first one is Madden PS2 not evolving over the past 5 years on PS2, which it has significantly. The second one being that the 360 version will be the same as the PS2 version. But enjoy a new way to play the same boring crap on Wii this november. :)

So if you've played "down right boring crap" for "5 years running," does that make you a jackass or a hypocrite? Maybe both?

i'm sure you jumped right into madden 06 and "owned" your friend without ever getting a tutorial on the new passing system. oh wait, what new passing system? SAME FUCKING GAME EVERY YEAR! GIVE ME SOME OF THAT OLLLLLLLD TIME FUN TECMO BOWL YOU WHORES!

suck it EA!

p.s. i can't imagine madden wii being anything more than a 15 minute diversion to hardcore madden players, but who knows.

the passing system for 06 is a good change but I stillowed them hahahhahaha
my thing is the reason i say is boring is becasue i have played it and i think it is like wise you who think other wise, on the Wii version no one here has played the damn fucking thing. so what for some hands on before jumping to conclusion. gamers have become a bunch of whimps afraid of change. gaming is become sad just sad.

im really having a hard time trying to wrap my head around the last part of this comment.

eh, now I'm not usually one to jump on the "omg who wants to move their body while playing a game" type of thinking...but is making throwing gestures with your wrist/arm really that crucial? I'd imagine a lot of cats get satisfaction out of madden from planning out an offensive/defensive attack, and then executing it, and watching relatively realistic NFL player representations occur on screen.

They don't think to themselves "man, I wish I could actually *throw* a ball and have that happen in the game!" That seems like it would be pretty far down the list of things on a Madden player's list. It seems like that Natural Motion animation thing from a while back would have more of an effect on madden gameplay compared to making moves with different hand gestures.

But as always, I could be wrong, and I'm looking forward to actually seeing how it all plays out.

Me too, given that Madden Rev is being developed by a seperate team with seperate goals and almost complete autonomy seperating them from Tiburon.

Unless he's talking about graphics.

I never liked the gameplay of any of EA's team sport sims. I just find them so incredibly boring. I'm thinking that the Revolution may change this to some extent but I'm still not too interested. However, I do think that these games will become some awesome party games.

i play madden because i like to scheme against my opponent, i like to run plays and dissect things as they occur. now i said i am "interested" in the wii version, but when i have to concentrate on a gimmick like doing a "throwing motion" to throw the ball everytime, well then im not concentrating on gameplanning.

it's not that i FEAR change, but some things don't need to be changed.

O rly? The Wii version is going to be an enhanced Xbox game with the Rev control scheme, bank on it.

The next gen versions of Madden, starting with 07, will have the new physics and animation system in place, based off of this:

http://media.ps3.ign.com/articles/702/702423/vids_1.html

It's a new Madden, built from the ground up by a team with almost full autonomy from Tiburon.

If you could read, you'd know as much.

The fucking Revmote makes it something aside from the same old Madden.

Better graphics have a smaller net effect on the series' progression.

If you played Madden on PS2/Xbox you would realize there isn't much more wiggle room to improve the gameplay except to adapt the control method to a new style. Wii can't support the advanced gameplay options of the 360/PS3 version because it doesn't have the ability to do the same advanced animation/physics techniques, so it needs to be different by altering the control style to what is currently available.

Let's wait until EA develops something that looks like a next generation Madden before we declare it the ultimate 360/PS3 game.

advanced gameplay options? So after the line of sight passing thing or whatever there was nothing else ea could do to improve madden?

u clazy?

Yes, in terms of making the onfield stuff more realistic and strategic game. In terms of the running game, passing game, defensive gameplay structure, everything will be improved.

I don't even know why I'm trying to discuss sports games with non sports fans (When is the last time any of you popped into a sports game thread?). It isn't like you guys ever played the PS2 or Xbox versions of Madden anyway, so the experience will be totally fresh.

Yes CVXFreak I'm not talking about graphics there (Although the Wii version will be similar to the Xbox version). It'll be the same setup as the PS2/Xbox Madden, except you use motions now instead of buttons to do things. It is a different way to play the same game, like I said.

to be fair i dont plan on buying this either!

So in otherwords, you won't give this a chance at all even though you've bought the last 5/6 versions of madden for ps2/xbox? I will, and I have.

Wow, you have played all the Wii games announced i'm so jelous, since you know how they all play and i bet they play horribly and the graphics suck, thanks for the impressions of the inferior console.

:lol :lol :lol

My brother owns (multiple) versions of *every* Madden since 2000. And I've played every one of them year on year, so stop assuming.

So I see that the way Madden is played will make less of a difference than the physical improvements! I see. From the way I observe it, I'll make the same button presses and passes but the AI and other technical features will be improved. Sounds like a REmake/RE1 deal to me.

It's too bad you actually believe that, Mrbob. Not like I didn't expect you to.

MrBob: what you're stating will be the "amazing new hotness" is basically a more detailed physics model for the players. It will improve interaction between them, making for a subtle difference in gameplay that most won't pick up on.

i seriously doubt EA will get the physics model right the first time if at all.

We only have for less than two weeks for E3, when both the Wii and 360 versions of Madden will be on display (and possibly PS3!). I'm bookmarking this thread for future ownage. :D

I hope the Wii version of Madden is more lke an RTS.

:P

General smith, run to the left, and throw to the right.
Solider Barlow, you suck.
Scout V.D, take the slot against a linebacker, and run to the right, easy catch+TD.

End Result:
Alex smith, running to his left has to toss a fade away pass to his scout for the td...

Yeah, that wont work.

NFL Head coach would be good on the Wii.

Then the Wii version of Madden better sell much better than the 360 version, if most people won't pick up on the subtle differences on 360 yet be enthralled by slingin and slangin their Wiimote.

I hope brett favre is the cover athlete instead of shaun just for the wii version. "Sling and Slang just like Brett Favre!" :lol

:lol Oh god, I gotta read through this whole thread again tomorrow, all I see is roofles.

Matlock defending a Madden game? :lol GAF's Madden Nation denouncing a Madden game? :) N-Bots protecting the hive...Ahhh this is gonna be a fun thread tomorrow. :D

Aussie Rules for the mad win.

Yeah that is the truth but I wouldn't say Aussie Rules is much better.

"Yakamanis..Yakamanis....oh what a mark by Yakamanis" Ugh.

You southerners can keep it.

Lets keep that to ourselves because there is no sport touching the intensity of football.

Anyway...Mr.Bob, there's not going to be a new physics engine. I will buy you madden 07' if they put a brand new engine into the game.

That's because us older gamers out there have been at it long enough to remember peripherals like the Power Glove, U-Force, Activator, etc., that promised to 'change the way we play games', but turned out to be gimmicky crap. We're naturally a little cynical about the Wii-mote because we've heard the pitch before.

The conventional gamepad has survived this long because it's well-suited to controlling most existing types of games. If Nintendo and third parties want to convince us of the value of the Wii-mote, they need to play to its strengths. Designing games that revolve around manipulating objects in 3D space would be a good start. Taking existing game concepts and Wii-ifying them by making the player pantomime actions to trigger events in the game instead of just pressing a button is not. That's the Power Glove et al. all over again.
