Any word on when this is coming?

Since there's only a single option on the title screen, I'm guessing it'll be added to the base game, and will be accessible after you unlock the 3 lieutenants (like racing).

There's been a lot of activity over on Steamdb.

Looks like MAC support. There's nothing for PC version and latest version is set public.

I'm fairly sure 2K uses private app for PC development, which means you can't see activity there.

There's this

Whiskey was codename for Mafia 3

Whoa this is great news! I really hope the DLCs focus on predominantly linear set piece missions- those were the real highlights of the game!

Totally agree with this.

How do I assign extra districts to one boss? I was pushing buttons all over the place and couldn't find anything. And who should I assign it all to? Thanks.

Finally some DLC news. Lets see how that will turn out.

It always works like this:

1. Damage both of the Rackets in 1 District to draw out the Underbosses.
2. Flip or Kill both of the Underbosses.
3. Assign both of the Rackets in the current District to the same person you want to assign the District to later.
4. Draw out the Lieutenant, kill him and afterwards you will be able to give the District to the person you want.

If you want everyone to be happy, you should give everyone 1 District 1st and afterwards give everyone their 2nd District.

Totally agree with this.

I also thought that it is mac support but i think that it's not. There were lots of updates for that branch whenever there was patch for PC version.

I just finished this last night and kinda conflicted. The world was built very well, capturing the feel of a Southern city in the 60s well (in places). The music was great and the writing/dialogue was better than most open world games.

But I really didnt enjoy many of the missions at all, especially the filler, and it was a slog to the finish. It was missing the "fun sandbox" element of games like this.

More driving (and shooting) in the dlc would be welcome, as I thought both were pretty meaty.

Does this have to do with the new yellow icon missions that have popped up on my map? There are three separate missions that involve investigating a racket. I assume I complete each mission and then have an option to assign the racket to whichever boss?

Yes, that's correct.

Same for me. I just played the first few hours and so far it's been an absolute joy to play and watch.

Even if there is a grind on the horizon, as long as the story and characters keep up I can stomach nearly anything.

Scrap this. Fuck this game and fuck whoever thought this kind of approach was acceptable in a story-heavy game. I should not have to sludge through hours of boring and frustrating copy-paste filler to enjoy a few seconds of story progress.

I just shot an informant five times through the face with a shotgun and still he escaped. It's that I am close to the end otherwise I would have quit already.

What's the performance and image quality like for this now? Have updates improved it from release or not?

Edit: I meant to say on PC.

The only issue would be the repetitveness and even then I don't think it's that much worse than most other open world games to be honest.

Can't wait for the DLC.

The problem is the juxtaposition of the fantastic writing and main mission story presentation against the rest of the campaign structure. Mafia 3 is far and away the highest quality story told in one of these open world action games, so the repetitive racket takedowns stick out like a sore thumb. A lot of this could've been side stepped with clever smoke and mirror mission design to not make the game feel like a check list. The whole thing is just too transparent.

I think the DLC will be a lot better in this regard. This team seems much more talented at story arcs than emergence.

Mafia III was awesome for me, so much so that it's not only a 9/10 but also my 2016 game of the year replacing Gears of War 4. Story, characters and the way it's all told and come together is great. Love the extra small area you go to at the end. Soundtrack is amazing. gameplay is the weak spot but it's still good and enjoyable. The gameplay loop was perfect for me and fits what I want in an open world game. Taking down Sal Marcano and everyone else was literally, a blast. Most fun I had with a game from 2016 after The Division.

I have the season pass since I purchased the Deluxe Edition at launch. Was waiting to play and complete the game and see what the expansions were going to be but once "Faster, Baby" gets released, I'll jump right back in New Orleans. :)

Indeed. It just feels like one giant checklist. By making nearly every mission the same it also lessens the impact of the individual district and racket stories. Why should I listen to this informant when I already know that I will have to destroy x and kill y in order to lure out the guy on top? The Southern Union story in Frisco Fields didn't nearly carry the weight it should have because of that mission structure.

The set-piece missions at the end of each district are nice though. The game isn't completely shit but it just feels like a missed opportunity. That's why I am so angry with it.

I'm tempted to get this, EB have it for $77AUD on PS4 which includes the steelbook and season pass (which looks good).

From what I've read it honestly sounds like an amazing game apart from repetitive mission design. My question is, are the controls and gunplay good enough to carry you through doing the same missions over and over agin?

This is right up there with the most satisfying gunplay in any open world crime game IMO. Not as dynamic as the Euphoria reactions in Rockstar's titles, but much, much more tight, swift and brutal. I certainly never grew tired of combat, even when I found myself wishing there was more variance in mission design.

I totally understand, varying linear missions wouldn't have disappointed me in the style of Mafia 2 or as you say better smoke and mirrors but because of the gameplay loop being so strong the repetiveness didn't really bother me at all (as shown by your awesome gifs). I just never got bored of fucking shit up it was so fun, helps that the driving and shooting are both utterly superb. I also loved the feeling of slowly dismantling Sals operation bit by bit and taking over new rackets, it was very satisfying to me.

However I do think the DLCs will be better in this regard and concentrating more on pure story and less 'fluff'

How do the missions compare to the ones in GTA V? I mean, it also had repetitive missions.

If you do the bare minimum of racket missions, you should be ok, just look for the ones that give you the most rewards, you don't have to do them all.

The problem is that the 'fodder' mission types are repeated through all rackets ad nasuem, and there are alot of them, there are a few standouts, but the majority are, go here, kill him, then go there kill someone else, etc, etc, type missions.

The gunplay is really good, so I could forgive a lot of them.

It's a shame, because the large more scripted missions are actually really good.

Lashley

Why does he wear the mask!?

It's not, but it does have problems.

It was well worth my time to get the Platinum

This game is far, far from "shit", it's a great game, especially mechanically, it's just mired in some terrible mission design and structure in parts.

For me, when compared to Mafia 1 & 2 the game is pretty shit.

It could've been a whole lot better than it is. Still runs bad on PC too.

I mean, it's been a while since I played Mafia 2, but I can't really remember anything in particular that would make it a bastion of game design.

I never said it was. I said it was better than 3, a lot better imo. I may go back and replay 3 some day, but it was very repetitive, with a passable story.

& you're right! & i don't understand why this particular game, which does so much so well, was basically critically crucified for it!...

&, yeah, looking forward to the dlc as well! really loved my time with this game! :) ...

Is it possible for someone to find all the WVCE Holla black radio host speeches that are super woke as hell? Someone datamine them from the files? A compilation on Youtube? They're very relevant to politics right now and would love to listen to them again.

Beat it finally, my impressions:

+ The linear missions are good
+ Good story, good protagonist
+ I prefer the shooting and cover to that of GTA
- Way too repetitive
- Car combat can be frustrating when the AI always shoots your tires out in seconds, thus forcing you to get out.
- Texture loading and pop-up issues are frequent
- There were some story missions that begged for more freedom and creativity (ex. the judge escort mission)

Its a 3/5 game for me overall. I enjoyed it and had fun for a while, but near the end I definitely got tired of the formula. I also screwed up some achievements on my first run, thus I'll have to beat it two more times to get the 1000. Not even going to bother, I had my fill. I'll definitely check out the DLC, will invest in the season pass when there's a sale.

Finished this myself the other day. Loved it the whole way but there's definitely too much padding.

I loved Donovan's insane last cutscene. What a classic character.

I want to buy this game... have they fixed the PC issues yet? Or should I go with the PS4 Pro version?

I finished it on a powerful pc the other day and had about 3 problems in 20 hours.

God yeah a couple of these were insanely relevant

Finished this just now and really enjoyed it for the most part. If they would have included the customization and attention to detail that Mafia 2 had it would have been on my GOAT list. Though the missions were repetitive and wish it had more variety the gun play really made up for it. Feels like a go to game for gun fights and just shooting things up. Overall though Mafia 2 is still my favorite.

Pros:
Gunplay
Voice acting (Donovan, Father James, and Duvall especially)
Environments
Soundtrack (so damn good)

Cons
Repetitive mission design
Janky edited/transition cut scenes
Lack of side activities in open world

I love whenever The Holla on WVCE speaks, recorded a few videos especially about MLK Jr, FBI targeting black leaders, and whether peaceful protests are viable.

"It's hard to turn the other cheek when you're lying in a pool of your own goddamn blood."

The whole game is about the struggle between Father James' turning the other cheek and Lincoln Clay's reality of using violence to achieve justice. Yes, he might turn into a monster, but it's understandable. One of the most politically relevant videogames of our time.

Thanks for posting the Holla video. That sub-plot was one of my favorite things in the game. I think the team did a fantastic job when it comes to world building. Have you heard that NPCs talking about the Star Trek episode yet?

There not in the same league tbh. M3 missions are closer to the far cry games approach the enemies some are labeled sentry if you don't take him out he will alert reinforcements. Most missions are just kill everyone to take the area over there's the odd follow the car and don't let them see you and more linear missions where your inside a building just killing everyone most of the time you are able to use the stealth mechanics wich are pretty fun tbh. Basically this game has ok gameplay decent graphics and performance and above average story telling and music.

I don't get it why a lot of people and even the same DF analysis, disappreciate so much the graphic in this title and appreciate more something like Watch Dogs 2, which is in my opinion quite mediocre in a lot of more aspects. Mafia 3 has a lot of more appreciable graphic features for a free roam. Just to say, I noticed more real time reflections or the level of traffic and the amount of pedestrians it's surely appreciable, not even comparable to the desert streets of Watch Dogs 2. Or the same lighting system seems more advanced. An example: the cars lights casting the environment shadows where on Watch Dogs 2 it's quite expensive for console and very limited on pc setting too.
I definitely disagree with this sentiment.

I recently re-installed the game to get ready for the DLC and I still love it so much. There's a ton of character going from one district to another. The gunplay and driving mechanics remain my favorite in the open world crime genre. I never got tired of the repetitive nature of the game structure because the shooting felt so good. I hope for the DLCs, the team concentrates more on linear set piece missions without having to resort to unlocking them by city takeover. With the addition of new outfits, races, and car customization, I'm back in my groove of just enjoying the beauty of the city. I wish they would allow for more than one save file so I could replay it without worrying about completing everything before the DLC arrives.
