Mafia 3 PC performance thread

6700k (4.5ghz)
980 (1480mhz)
16gb ddr4 (3066mhz)
850 Evo
edit: 1080p ingame resolution.

Extremly high CPU load, but no bottleneck as gpu load is at 99%. Not even close to steady 60... (but downtown at night could be the worst case scenario).

Err, 45 fps on 720p with 980ti?

i7 4700k
GTX 1070

The good: Goes past 30 fps (can hold 60 fps when walking around in buildings etc)

The bad: Drops to ~50fps when driving around, so it still feels a little sluggish. The game is also still locked to 60hz, so uncapping framerate introduces tearing even on 144hz monitors.

It's an improvement for sure, but releasing PC games with a 60hz cap is baffling.

Changing settings between low and high don't do much if you ask me, only difference I have noticed with volumetric effects.

720p? Only 45 FPS with your rig?

The latest fix works great for me. I am not able to sustain 60fps (GTX1080), but it's much better than locked at thirty.

This is one of the worst-optimized games I have ever played, bar none. EDIT: I'd also like to add I've never played Arkham Knight, but still, this is really bad.

With the frame rate uncapped, I'm still struggling to get over 45 FPS at 1080p with a mixture of High/Medium settings, and I'm using an overclocked GTX 970.

Meanwhile in GTA V, with most of the settings cranked all the way up I very rarely drop below 70.

and GTA V obliterates this game from an impressive technical level. That's really too bad

The game also looks awful. I know its a different developer (but same publisher) but it looks awful, even in comparison to Mafia 2.

I'm glad I didn't buy this, that's some really bad performance for something that isn't much of a looker to start with.

It's a shame, because I was really interested in it.

Ehhh

I think I'll stick with 30 FPS. I basically have to turn everything down to low just to hit 60 FPS on a 970. Even then, I'm met with some straight up horrible frame pacing and stutter.

I just messed around and Volumetric Effects and Reflection Quality seem to be the major performance killers, at least for me. If I turn them to Low and put everything else up to High (except for AA, which just blurs everything) I actually get around 55-60 FPS on average. With them at Medium/High though, I instantly lose like ~10-20 FPS. It isn't worth the major frame rate hit AT ALL.

Still, I'm just amazed at how poorly this engine performs given its outdated looks. What a disappointment. :-(

Same experience on a 970.

I turned up reflections to Medium because Low reflections on a car looks horrendous, and it dropped about 5fps. I got out the car and walked around and it went back up to 60.

It controls so much better, but has to look even shittier.

Ok only about 10 minutes in with the patch.

i7 3770K, 16GB RAM, Titan X

The game at 1080p hovers between 50-57 fps. The settings are all on Max except shadows at Medium, and their AA option at Low (I still don't like how it blurs). Using a Reshader with some sharpening and SMAA.

Control wise, holy shit it feels like a revelation. A solid 60 hasn't been achieved fully for me I probably need to turn some other things down like Reflection quality and AO. But it's more than possible, probably will bump it to 1440p and get it done.

Going to do some further experimenting!

EDIT:
Turned AO to Medium, bumped up AA to Medium. 50-58 range, drops in Downtown (heavy district) to 48 lowest. Compared to the 30, this feels like a godsend but it definitely needs stability tweaking.

Anyone with a Pascal Titan X running at 3440x1440 or similar resolution?

Wondering if it's possible to brute force this thing to acceptable performance.

Oh, I see. It's not much better tho, you should be getting 60 FPS without any problem at all with your PC.

Oh I don't expect a game to run at 60 fps on max settings on my 980, but this is still a bit disappointing.

The unlocked fps is really unstable with high settings and 1080p, jumping all over the place. It's very much like trying to play Quantum Break at ultra with upscaling and 30fps disabled... except Quantum Break looks visually impressive.

Game is clearly optimized around being 30FPS locked.

Rig;
i5 6600K @ 4.2GHz
16GB
980Ti

Game settings; 1080p, AA on Medium and rest as high as goes. Had resolution at 1440p, but game would be 45FPS if I even just stood still.

Performance: 58 FPS when moving around on foot, no stuttering. 45-ish FPS when driving around, but stutter like squirrel on LSD because game instantly caps out my CPU.

See pictures, look at all statistics in upper left corner;
They unlocked FPS, but that is all they did. If you want 60+ FPS and smooth experience then hope your PC can brute force living shit out of the game.

At 3440x1440 if I turn off full screen, all settings on low, I can get 90fps. When I go back to fullscreen the unlimited option stops working and caps me at 60fps.

For everyone having unstable frame rates, try putting Reflections down to Low while leaving everything else at High (or medium for lower end cards).

this looks like one of those games I'll buy once the devs scramble around enough for weeks to release patches to optimize this game properly and fix the annoying issues. I have a 1070 and if people with 1080s can't even keep steady 60 I'm not going to bother, nothing I've seen of this game warrants this performance.

Was PC an after thought?

It seems it is, more often than not :(

Yep, with a GTX 1080 and settings on high (except for AA), can't keep 60 fps on 1440p

Edit: It's the reflection quality setting. Dropped it from high to low, and went from 53 fps to 75.

This is starting to look a lot like the Arkham Knight situation. Now that I think about it, Arkham Knight had a 30 fps cap too (though you could edit that through .ini)
Hopefully they'll also patch performance.

Feels amazing now. The Reshade I mentioned earlier breaks my FPS overlays but it's absolutely in the 60 area, like 55-65.

I just wish they'd get rid of this awful TXAA still.

I appreciate at the very last they're putting this much effort into it, but was this the publisher forcing a release date on the developer before they could optimize PC?

What a clusterfuck. Another page to the book of never pre-ordering shit, so happy I didn't put any money to this crap.

Oh wow game looks so good now!
Patch made the game awesome btw. Everything is so smooth no stuttering that I'm noticing at least. Gsync doing gods work.

Yeah I'm having a hard time believing this considering people with pretty good rigs are struggling to keep even 50fps.

Bullshit.
