Mafia 3 PC performance thread

Played for 3 hours now and not had a single crash yet (touches wood). Game is not a looker at all, and it is far too demanding considering that, but I'm having a lot of fun with it.

I can get 60FPS outdoors with a 4790k @4GHz, GTX 780 6GB and 16GB RAM, but that does mean dropping almost everything to low/medium bar geometry detail - and even then, who knows if it'll maintain that consistently?

I've barely played it yet as I can't get it to show button prompts when using an XB1 controller - they just show as blank spaces where the button images should be. Is anyone playing with a controller and has managed to get it to show button prompts?

yeah i'm playing with an xbo controller and prompts show just fine.

My Xbox One controller is wired and it's fine. Prompts show. Maybe the icons have been corrupted? Try checking game integrity.

I think this has been said already but don't spend too much time in the video options because it will crash the game. Only crashes I've had has been whilst changing options. Also there is a lot wrong with this games picture quality and over all presentation. Seriously it's not good. Not good at all.

Let me clearly state that Mafia III is very tricky to measure. The overall framerate can be off by an extensive amount depending on what location you are in the city, with denser populated and higher buildings in the city center your framerate will be lower to the level as shown in our benchmark charts. Also variables like the weather and even day/night conditions and the car you drive and yes .. traffic can have an effect on performance. Driving in a car eats away deeper in your framerate opposed to walking inside a building. We use a scene where we drive and where the FPS was worst case scenario. So overall your FPS will likely be a nice notch higher, but you will run into situations where the FPS is close to values as shown above.

Well, at least Titan XP is okay.

NVIDIA are optimising a ton less and putting pressure on devs to put in expensive features to make you jump to 10XX generation. Nothing else really.

Jumping to a 1440p monitor with a 970 was such a shady decision on my part tbh

Yes, Gears4 is the prime recent example of how Nvidia is at fault here. /s

Mafia 3 is quite obviously a bad console port which is the sole reason for such performance and graphics quality.

all going okay my end, picked it up today after the patch, getting between 50 and 60 which is fine by me

i7 4790k
GTX 970 OC
16gb ram

Running 1080, everything on high but AA set to low, reflections and shadows at medium

really enjoying it!

My specs:

GTX 1080 Strix OC
32 GB RAM
5820k 3,9 GHz

Playing on 1080p everything maxed out.. Getting stable 60 FPS, with VSYNC off it is 80-100 FPS.

So to maintain 60fps you need an i7 or something similar from AMD. If you have an i5 (even if its 6th gen) this won't happen.

well because the game runs alright at 30fps. not a chance in hell of sticking 60.
Still, we're talking about a 1.6GHz Jaguar here. I know comparing PC to consoles like this is not right, but I'm really interested in knowing how consoles do what they do on such a weak hardware.

I didn't have any crashes until I tried SweetFX, they stopped when I uninstalled it, so if anyone is using it to unblur the game and have crashes maybe that's why.

I7 3770k
1080 GTX
16GB RAM

Running everything on the highest settings 1440p, vsync on @ smooth 60 FPS

graphics are so inconsistent though.

i7 6700K
GTX 1080
32 GB RAM
1440p

Everything is set to high (including AA and Reflections), fluctuates between 55 and 70. With AA and Reflections set to Low, and Shadows to Medium, it goes 60+ up to 90. Still in the first hour.

In getting the feeling this is the best were gonna get, no communication or confirmation from the devs about the lighting bugs or sporadic frame rates.

between this and another poster its clear the game is dependent on processor and ram, ive got the same settings and pretty much a build one step lower than this and im between 50 and 60

Yep, seems to be crashing my game too :(

But it looks so much better with that preset

I might have spoken too soon. In the first area it was giving me 60~90 when setting things to Low, but now after the intro
(after the events of the robbery)
I'm getting 50~65 in the open world (Medium AA/ Medium Reflection), with occasional drops to as low as 46. Thankfully my G-Sync monitor smooths this out and it never bothered me, but this poor performance is certainly annoying. CPU was at 60~65% utilization, GPU was expectedly 100%.

Just tried again with Low Reflections and High AA and the lowest I'm getting is 59 (goes as high as 75 in the city). Turning it from Medium to Low gave me more than 10fps back. Insane.

It seems to have stopped crashing on me after I tried renaming the d3d11.dll file to dxgi.dll. Was able to play for a few hours without any crashes, whereas before, I was crashing about every 30 mins.

Im using a DS4 over bluetooth with DS4Windows and the prompts show up just fine.
No luck for me - tried a DS4 both over USB and with the Sony wireless adapter, in addition to the XB1 controller, and nothing. This is what the button configuration options screen looks like too:

From the Steam forums it seems this problem is pretty widespread, and affects all controllers, including the Steam controller. Not sure what's causing it to work for some and not others, though.

Im afraid this might be the end for the franchise, see, batman arkham knight was terrible on pc but it was great on consoles, this game is fucked on every platform

Guys, the game keeps crashing for me quite often(it might run for 1 hour, might be 10 minutes), anyone has that? Any workaround?

Adding a little bit of sharpening with sweetfx/reshade made it definitely look better. Why not give us a sharpening option in game though? A lot of games with AA solutions that make the game blurry add a sharpening option (Witcher 3 or Doom for example).

huh, weird, pretty much on par with me(7 4790k, gtx970 oc and 16gb ddr3 ram) give or take a few frames, some new areas though its starting to dip below 50, i just cant have reflections below medium though it looks so bad

That explains it.

I have an i7 and have been running fine, and it's not even maxing out my CPU.

Also, since I posted yesterday, I was playing until 3am. No crashes.

More or less.

Guru3D has used an i7-5960X Extreme Edition to test the game and managed to maintain 60 fps all the time only with a Pascal Titan X.

They say there are areas where the fps drops, even with a GTX 1080 and this cpu.

For some reason freesync just isn't working with this game. Tested it in Deus Ex, DOOM and Rocket League and it's fine there.

This game is so easy to break, I am barely even trying. After taking over the first club, if you run into all the people on the floor sittings at tables etc. They will get up and start to keep walking a big loop around the top floor non-stop. You can even knock the chairs from underneath sitting people and they will just keep hovering.

I really want to enjoy this game and I can laugh at the bugs (I stabbed someone with a shotgun earlier). The performance issues are just dire though, really don't know if I can continue until they are sorted, IF they are sorted, that is.

Just got two crushes, definitely refunding because the price is probably going down. (almost half the price now on cdkeys ).

Yeah its a POS right now. Crappy AI, Crappy gfx, Performance is shit. Pretty much everything they promised didn't happen.

Why can't we call Devs out on this shit. I remember reading an Article about how optimised the game was going to be. Wtf happened to get this broken mess : I bet they didn't even play it on PC.

Im pissed off and I didn't even buy the damn thing.

r9290 Oc'd with with i5 4690@4.6 Ghz.
Game is 20-40fps in Open world even with everything set on low.

Looking at afterburner the game is not using GPU 100%, in drops as low as 20%
I have the newest amd driver.
Anyone having similar problems?
