Major Nelson addresses the Xbox One issues

[–]Blazinphx/r/Games reporter
What's funny is we had an interview set up with Sony and after reviewing the redditors questions they declined to do the interview because they didn't like the "hardware" questions... but XB gets flamed daily. ooh internet :)

[–]sighclone
So Sony denied to allow you an interview?
Lame.

[–]Blazinphx/r/Games reporter
Yes. They first wanted to pre-screen questions which we agreed to; then declined us an interview after reviewing the questions...we were shocked to say the least. In regards to what kinds of "hardware" questions skydart had them on her list. But MS opened their doors and gave us an exclusive interview with Major Nelson upstairs... they treated us like any other major news outlet. They got big points for that in my book.. I'm probably still buying a PS4 though :-P (PC is still where its at though.)

[–]Blazinphx/r/Games reporter
My best guess to this was A. there wasn't a person who could answer these questions thoroughly enough or "that person" was too busy for "our" interview... or B. They've got plenty of good PR on reddit without having to actually address anyone's concerns regarding their console...

Wonder what the question was

Major Nelson* is what's wrong with the video game industry. An old asshole that hardly plays games trying to tell us what we want.

* You can pretty much replace Major Nelson with any exec at Microsoft in that sentence.

hes just a pr guy, doing what hes told.
cut him some slack.

We had all these hardware questions. I don't remember any of them though but just sony declined!. -Reddit

They need to fire their support team. They don't know shit.

or MS could just stop dicking around and clarify these questions.

or give the Support team straight answers so if they're asked, they can answer the question.

why should people lose jobs because Microsoft dropped the ball and are trying their hardest to save face?

they hiding something?

So he's saying you have access to all of your stuff even if you are banned.

I imaging you will keep access to your physical copies.
They can delete the accounts the license was bound to on their server.

User makes new account and can bind the physical disk to his new account again.
Digital content will probably be fucked which will probably be the same on psn.

But i dont think they will give perm ban quickly would mean to much pr maybe lock you out from the game multi for x days.

A lot of tippy toeing around stuff.

Didn't know you could put your 360 as an input into your Xbox One though, I wonder what you can do with that.

That's kind of strange.

Them not giving an interview to people from Reddit ?

Is it strange ? I think it's more remarkable that Microsoft even acknowledged them.

And with Sony releasing the tech specs into the wild, I'm not how people are going to spin this into some sort of conspiracy.

wut? He probably plays more games then most of us.

Yo Major Nelson, address this. 4TFlop GPU at E3 demo booth. 60FPS and 1080P Forza 5 etc. Can we expect major downgrades in the final build?

4TFlop =/= 600-700Gflops (hopefully 1.2TFlops)

wut? He probably plays more games then most of us.

He is also a habitual liar. and a MS mouthpiece.

It's weird to me that he said that MS wouldn't revoke your content if they shut the servers down.

Which is complete bullshit since that's exactly what they did with the OG xbox.

Did he really just say the majority of the world is connected? lol. Only approximately 65% of 360 owners are connected, and of that amount only half or so are gold members. The fact that MS is betting on people being being "always connected" despite their main audience being NA is hilarious. Internet isn't good at all in NA and in lots of rural areas you're stuck with dial up or even worse. Such a dumb move of MS's part.

who confirmed the yield issues ?
please dont link to that awful "xbone games on pc, derp111" thread. it was a single game.
CBOAT and I think a few gaffers in the know.

Q:Will you change anything after seeing the Sony conference?
A:I don't really think... we're not going to change anything. We're really happy with Xbox One.

Well... that's a wrap.

"Did you see the games on stage? Did you see Titanfall? Forget everything else, Titanfall!"

Terrible interview. So much spin.

I guess we're going to have to wait a few weeks for them to get their shit together because so far they contradict themselves so much since their official spanking that their restrict... I mean features are becoming more and more foggy/fishy/unclear.

My question would be what hardware questions there be? I mean what don't we really know about PS4 hardware at this point in time, we know the details of pretty much every piece of hardware in the thing at this point, lol.

wait, so hypothetically I could run my PS4 through my Xbone? edit: via HDMI

wow. first I have heard of that!

A lot of tippy toeing around stuff.

Didn't know you could put your 360 as an input into your Xbox One though, I wonder what you can do with that.

How many inputs does the XBone actually have? I thought it was one, so... wouldn't plugging in a 360, PS3, PS4, or even Wiiu into it, defeat the purpose of its tv functionality?

Yo Templar_Dante, Microsoft haven't announced their spec officially yet and downclocking the rumoured GPU by 600gflops makes you look silly.

I genuinely like Major Nelson and this family sharing stuff is looking to be a great feature. I was always going to get both consoles but this is making me excited for the Xbone and PS4!

Lots of BS answers that include the word "flexibility".

I'm not sure Major Nelson understands the definition of the word.

He understands how to handwave with a nice word in a pretty shameless way without answering the question, and in a way that totally patronises people. Which would make him a good politician I guess.

This is the likely scenario. We've seen from MS tech support/twitter how things can get so clusterfucked when somebody not completely informed attempts to answer question.

Sometimes shutting the fuck up is the best PR. Not always, but sometimes especially if there is no other immediate alternative.

A lot of spin but what do you expect? It wasnt a bad interview. I wish we got more on that family plan, though. Theres so much talk about what you CAN do with it but nobody is getting into what you CANT do. All I want to know are the restrictions they have in place for that family plan...if there are any at all. I guess Ill wait for Larrys writeup.

I wonder why Sony cancelled. They certainly havent shyed away from doing interviews elsewhere. Id like to see the question that they disapproved of.

Really? fucking Obama has done an AMA at Reddit, it's not some shitty little site.

Interview here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lMhjM9BK7M

After the XboxOne servers are shut down at the end of the new generation, will XboxOne games still be playable?
"We haven't started this generation, so its kind of early to talk about the end of the generation. That is certainly something that we would not do, that's not the way the system is designed, it is designed for flexibility."

My take: "Designed for flexibility" could either mean that the authentication system can change, or that the number of authentication servers can scale horizontally depending on the demand using Azure.

If someone is banned, whether their fault or not, will they lose access to the games they purchase?
"Absolutely not, you will always have access to the games you purchased."

What happens if I get banned for griefing?
"Then we're going to kick people out of the multiplayer."

Why is it that someone with a physical disc of a game inserted into the console could not play that game offline for more than 24 hours?
"That is an interesting question and pretty complex. The way we designed the Xbox One architecture is for flexibility, and one of the areas we can do that is, for instance, our family sharing. If you and I were in a family, you could check a game out of our game library and use it. So this ability we got of seeing what you got in your library, that is a result of being always connected. We think the upside of being connected is about the library and having access to your games anywhere you are."

He goes on to talk about how Microsoft believes this is where the future of gaming is going, and it allows them to unlock great gaming experiences and flexibility with the games library.

Related question the the last... What is the additional value bought by the once every 24 hrs connection, what do I as a consumer get out of that
"I think I kind of just went over that, right? There are so many. If you give me a game, the system will automatically appear in my library, as well as having the most up to date library when my Dad or my Mom buys a game."

Will you change anything about the Xbox One after seeing the Sony conference?
"I don't really think we're going to change anything. We're very happy with what we've done with Xbox One. Did you see the games at our briefing? Did you see the exclusives? We're really, really proud of the system and the games coming out. I think it is safe to say we are confident where we are going, and we're confident gamers are going to love our vision of the future, and what we're going to offer for gaming."

What is your target audience with the Xbox One? Many of your features can not be accessed or are stripped down for markets outside the US. Why should someone who can't use your features access the Xbox One?
"The console is built for the future, and a majority of the world is now connected. So I'm not sure which features they are not going to get. If they are talking about things like Netflix and things like that, that is certainly a content provider discussion, and that exists today. That is not an Xbox problem, that is an industry problem."

Can you clarify how the HDMI input is going to be used?
"First of all, it is the only console right now that has HDMI in. It allows you to input your cable or set top box. You could be watching TV and then instantly get a game invite and switch instantly. There is a guide we produce that we can overlay the existing guide so you can manage it that way. DVR is still handled by the set top box. We're just allowing people to still watch TV and then get back to their game experiences, and still stay connected. You can even use our snap mode to watch TV on the left while you play a single player game on the right."

What is one question you were not asked, but wish you would have been asked about the Xbox One?
"Probably about the family package. We've talked a little bit about it, but people have not really got their heads around about what it means. You kind of already asked me, so I don't really have an answer to that question. It's awesome!"

Closing statements by Major Nelson
"We're really excited about what we're doing with Xbox One. I know there are some questions out there in the games community. We're going to be answering those."

Is anyone else still confused about how this family pack works?

It sounds like a great idea that can be exploited but i don't exactly trust Microsoft anymore so...
