After the XboxOne servers are shut down at the end of the new generation, will XboxOne games still be playable?
"We haven't started this generation, so its kind of early to talk about the end of the generation. That is certainly something that we would not do, that's not the way the system is designed, it is designed for flexibility."
My take: "Designed for flexibility" could either mean that the authentication system can change, or that the number of authentication servers can scale horizontally depending on the demand using Azure.
If someone is banned, whether their fault or not, will they lose access to the games they purchase?
"Absolutely not, you will always have access to the games you purchased."
What happens if I get banned for griefing?
"Then we're going to kick people out of the multiplayer."
Why is it that someone with a physical disc of a game inserted into the console could not play that game offline for more than 24 hours?
"That is an interesting question and pretty complex. The way we designed the Xbox One architecture is for flexibility, and one of the areas we can do that is, for instance, our family sharing. If you and I were in a family, you could check a game out of our game library and use it. So this ability we got of seeing what you got in your library, that is a result of being always connected. We think the upside of being connected is about the library and having access to your games anywhere you are."
He goes on to talk about how Microsoft believes this is where the future of gaming is going, and it allows them to unlock great gaming experiences and flexibility with the games library.
Related question the the last... What is the additional value bought by the once every 24 hrs connection, what do I as a consumer get out of that
"I think I kind of just went over that, right? There are so many. If you give me a game, the system will automatically appear in my library, as well as having the most up to date library when my Dad or my Mom buys a game."
Will you change anything about the Xbox One after seeing the Sony conference?
"I don't really think we're going to change anything. We're very happy with what we've done with Xbox One. Did you see the games at our briefing? Did you see the exclusives? We're really, really proud of the system and the games coming out. I think it is safe to say we are confident where we are going, and we're confident gamers are going to love our vision of the future, and what we're going to offer for gaming."
What is your target audience with the Xbox One? Many of your features can not be accessed or are stripped down for markets outside the US. Why should someone who can't use your features access the Xbox One?
"The console is built for the future, and a majority of the world is now connected. So I'm not sure which features they are not going to get. If they are talking about things like Netflix and things like that, that is certainly a content provider discussion, and that exists today. That is not an Xbox problem, that is an industry problem."
Can you clarify how the HDMI input is going to be used?
"First of all, it is the only console right now that has HDMI in. It allows you to input your cable or set top box. You could be watching TV and then instantly get a game invite and switch instantly. There is a guide we produce that we can overlay the existing guide so you can manage it that way. DVR is still handled by the set top box. We're just allowing people to still watch TV and then get back to their game experiences, and still stay connected. You can even use our snap mode to watch TV on the left while you play a single player game on the right."
What is one question you were not asked, but wish you would have been asked about the Xbox One?
"Probably about the family package. We've talked a little bit about it, but people have not really got their heads around about what it means. You kind of already asked me, so I don't really have an answer to that question. It's awesome!"
