Which is not the discussion.

I don't feel I need to pull up lifetime sales for the bunch of series I named. The most important factor is how many series are dropping and losing relevance. Then looking at the current emergences. It's reading a pattern that also encompasses quality.

I would think this pattern is obvious. More out then in. The best evidence is that there isn't much past Blue Exorcist to show strength in modern battle shounen. Yet there is a laundry list of dropping, ending, or dead works. If you need numbers to read the pattern, I don't know what to say. Not to mention that you are still way to focused on sales.

Answer me this how can you tell those series had any relevance to begin with .
I understand that you are saying that a fair amount of shonen battle manga are finishing and replacing them is other genres.
That has always happen a series come to a end and they get replace by other series.
It is also much easier to find out info on shonen battle manga compare to other genres since it has more info at hand .
Who knows how many other type of series get cancel and we will never know cause no one gives a rats ass.

You say a pattern is forming but that not really the case since it takes time for new battle shonen to come out and get a foot hold .
You saying Chihayafuru (2007), KnT(2005), Bokura ga Ita (2002), Natsume, Tonari no Kaibutsukun(2008), and Ao Haru Ride beat (2011) beating up the charts.
Most of them are fairly old manga that get time to gain a foot hold .
Blue Exorcist (2009) , Attack of the Titans (2009) , FT (2006) also beating up the charts .
Your also basing this on Jump who cancel series faster than any place else .

Now if you say that Jump Going to have problem replacing the Naruto or Bleach when they done i would say your right .
But that not because there battle shonen but because they sell huge numbers compare to everything else .
Also compare to most other genres battle shonen has more pressure to sell certain numbers in jump to say alive and this is made even worst with jump rankings .

As i said the wave that replace DB , Yu Yu , Kenshin among others started 4 to 5 years later with HxH , OP , Naruto among others .

I shall chronicle my recent activities resulting from the following post

1. Wait.. that looks a bit..
2. No way, is it...?!
3. *goes to mangaupdates*
4. 2-man team?! Oh man oh man this is getting stressful *clicks on artist*
5. FUCKING KNEW IT YES I AM THE BEST MANGAUPDATES

For the record, I almost never get these right. Hell I think it's the first time I did. So proud of myself, even if the blush lines gave it away.

Trinity 7 artist doing her own thing. It's rather cute.

Wait... what?

Oh

Kodansha is making it so hard for me to even complete Fairy Tail, somehow previous volumes of FT are just gone from Amazon or are being charged at $19.99 and they are slowly rereleasing some volumes (v12 for example in August) when they are already way beyond that. :/

I imagine the previous volumes aren't in print anymore since they were released when Del Ray had the license.

Even then, Kodansha is pretty much floundering with their releases these days. I'm still waiting for new volumes of SZS.

But y'know those things work in waves. The big stuff of the next decade could come out of nowhere, right? All it takes is a couple of volumes and a series can explode, within a quarter. So it's not possible to predict the trend that well.
Very true and I won't dispute that. But the state of the matter is the state of the matter.
Countrouble

...yup
Business as usual. That's not even the top outfit Kouta has worn. Great series.

You're fucking with me, right? God I hate you guys. I mentioned that it was the same artist in like 100,000,000 posts. Now I know nobody reads my posts. I'm going to curl up in a corner and die. I bet scy remembers. You bastards... *sniff*
Answer me this how can you tell those series had any relevance to begin with.
Anime adaptations is a good start. And series like D.Gray-Man, Soul Eater, Negima, all have had strong followings. I mean...can you really say that they were never relevant? If I heard somebody tell me that Claymore was never relevant, I'd tell them to get their head checked.
You say a pattern is forming but that not really the case since it takes time for new battle shonen to come out and get a foot hold.
Well, we can talk again in another 5 years cause that's the minimum gap we have right now.
You saying Chihayafuru (2007), KnT(2005), Bokura ga Ita (2002), Natsume, Tonari no Kaibutsukun(2008), and Ao Haru Ride beat (2011) beating up the charts.
Again, anime adaptations are really a good indicator here; Chihayafuru (2011), KnT(2009/2011), Bokura ga Ita (2006), Natsume(2008-2010), Tonari no Kaibutsukun(2012-2013), and Ao Haru Ride beat (TBD). That's pretty damn relevant material for the current market. Bakuman got 2 seasons and so did TWGOK. Sankarea, Kuragehime, Kaichou Maid-sama, KNIM, Koe de Oshigoto, MMY, Sora no Otoshimono, Tasogare, TLDR Darkness, etc... all with recent anime/ova treatment.

You're making fair points now but I still have to stick with what I said. I see the anime and manga markets shifting due to changing audiences, overall decline, and as I said a lack of big shounen battle hits. I don't think the manga authors are completely innocent when you see stuff like Magico turn terrible and Beelzebub not reaching potential. And as I said let's face it, Exorcist is not good either. I was hyping Accel World a bit but that is more of a dramatic shounen. Look, I'm searching and keeping an open mind. But there's just nothing to find.

Nisekoi

I said I wasn't going to do this, but ManGAF is a corrupting element. Fuck it, I'm in. Currently up to Chapter 18.

#TeamTsugumi, we in there. :lol

Better Tsugumi than Shitoge.

Hey man, man, hey. I thought I told you that I have selective reading with series on my wishlist. It's kind of hard to avoid if someone posts a pic, that's all.

Thing is I've already read a couple chapters of Countrouble long ago (somehow it reverted back to my wishlist, dunno how) and I still couldn't make the connection until now. I am so bad with these things.

Magi is getting a anime this fall.
Doesn't really scream pure action shounen. Magi has the heavy adventure element and Accel World with the drama. It's something but not much when you look at all the other counts.

I'm more focused on Attack of the Titans then the rest. I might try Magi down the line but I hate little kid protags.

Well the anime\manga market has change in some ways already allot of time now most of the big animes are now base off light novels and they also get a manga.
Even Accel World you talking about is base on a light novel , even in this thread we see people talking about certain shows but don't know the anime\manga base on a light novel .

If you can get over that hate, Aladdin is a pretty cool guy (which I'll forever see as Momoko from Sumomo, just with black hair).
I wish I could but I hate almost every work with little kid protags. Stuff like Tegami Bachi is nauseating. Not everything can be like Lain.

Wait a sec...

It's all cut from the same cloth yes. But that's still another group that's not battle shounen focused. The anime originals probably have changed the most though. The days of Bebop, Champloo, and DTB... Some LN it pretty ridiculous though like MMY and Papa Loli stupid shit. Who needs one adaptation when you can have 7!

Nisekoi

I want an ending a la Ichigo 100%.

Truth is his probably gonna end up with Chitoge like almost every damn manga where the hero loves someone but this girl get in the way and at the end he realize he's in fact in love with her.

Yes I am talking about the ultimate garbage KNIM

What happened there?

What happened there?

I read it a very long time ago so I don't remember exactly.

If I remember correctly at the end he is not with the one you expected, but he made the right choice as you are 100% sure to fall in love right on the spot with the last panel.

Edit : actually it's more like he ends up with the one you wanted to but you still thought it was not going to happen because it's not how harem manga typically ends.

But the most important part is that there is a certain kind of sadness by the end of the manga that's truly moving (at least that how I felt).

What happened there?
First girl didn't win but she also was the weaker one. Ending was typical unrealistic and non-human writing. I don't know what it is with bat-shit insane romcom endings. Change 123 comes to mind when the girl
births her multiple personalities.
Karin has one of the most touching and amazing endings though.

Really? The ending was fairly logical and probably one of the only manga where the hero actually act as a real human being.

You mean when they
go their separate ways mailing VHS tapes on worldwide exploration trips to then say "I'm back!" with hugs?
That's insanity. Suzuka made more sense where she just got
knocked up cause the kids forgot how babies are made
. Oh man, I was just reminded of Otaku no Musume-san as well. I get trying to create unique endings but all of those were absolutely dreadful. It's like they just gave up trying to make their characters have human brains.

Seriously...Karin...best romcom ending.
Magi is definitely a standard battle shounen.
Fair enough. I don't read it and you would know. Blue Exorcist has a friend.

I mean it's adventure too, but that's like saying One Piece and Dragonball aren't pure battle series.
I see your point. I just thought it was like a Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle work. I sort of think of the really adventure heavy works as their own thing. You know, the ones where the world is the real MC.

Ahah yeah I meant that. I don't know I liked it. It's more romantic than a "realistic" ending to me. I'd be pretty bored if every manga end up with " we went out, moved together, got married, bought our own flat, got our first child...."

Anyway before going to bed I'm going to recommend some manga:

Ai ren : pretty old, but a very sad love story. Truly touched me. For those of you who want to cry a little.

Fire candy : pretty old too. Ended too fast. But truly awesome and disturbing.

Ai Ren fucked me up for MONTHS after the fact. Like I almost couldn't read manga afterward. It's really good, but pace yourself, especially if you're used to "jokier" romance manga suggestions.

This is the only explanation for someone being on #teamondera
Alright Nisekoi Tier List real talk.
  1. Ruri
  2. Onodera
  3. Tsugumi
  4. Photo Girl
  5. _Reserved for other promised girls_
  6. Chitoge
I wish I could but I hate almost every work with little kid protags. Stuff like Tegami Bachi is nauseating. Not everything can be like Lain.

Wait a sec...
Tegami Bachi gets alot better later even though it takes a long time, I felt it was worth the investment.
