One Piece is still good, but it's kind of obvious that health issues and the scale of the world is causing Oda to strain. I used to be excited for the chapter each week, but nowadays I binge read them from time to time.

and some of Oda's issues are like, painfully obvious nowadays, like almost everything he writes involving women

(wonder if the Big Mom arc improved on that? Big Mom is cool.)

edit: oh god i didn't want this to be on a new page

muahahahahh

Vanilla Breaker had an actual plotline and character development. It wasn't the most original story but it had a course.

New Waves is several years worth of Shi Woon flopping around blue balling readers doing jack shit until the very end where it gets good and finds a point for the bullshit plot only for the series to go on a hiatus that might as well be permanent.

Yarp. I appreciate its honesty. Is like baki, in a way. Firmly popcorn entertainment.

Apt comments about the dumbness of NarutoSasuke comparisons and...

@Dramatis

Sadly I think I might be a member of team Zweizer...

...off to a good start! Welcome and have fun here.

Regarding The Breaker: I was kinda entertained by the first part (something like a 6 out of 10 but fun), read impressions of New Wave and the thought of the protagonist losing power levels frustrated me. He took too long in the Breaker already to get going, so I kinda never started New Wave, and that thing about the ending and the hiatus doesn't help.

Pretty much. Also the only character I thought was any real good was black beard dude, and he gets one hell of a send-off. Also also dudes with skulls for faces! It was like Team Skull before Team Skull!

Well the problem with New Waves was it's potential that it squandered; a lot of really good characters they introduced amounted to a whole hill of nothing and Shi-Woon being a consummate monster was cool but couldn't carry the series enough. Like, for example, the girl they plastered over the covers and promotional material whose name I can't even fucking remember now did absolutely nothing except say his name a lot after the first like...30 chapters. There was some legit good parts in it like the part with the guy who trained him dying but most of it was just like...meandering and not focused on a lot of what made it good.

So a lot of wasted potential.

Used to be super into One Piece as well but I've fallen off from it. Whether that's due to it or myself who knows. Stopped reading around the Gladiator arc part. I think the art just got too busy for me and the jokes never landed anymore. And yes, his women got more and more 105-10-82 for me.

Personally, I've always thought Breaker's was kind of garbage but I'm in the latter camp too. The emotional moments were all way stronger in the second half for me. Too bad its a slog to get there. Speaking of Breaker, is there any word on that third part?

Well, they're working on a webtoon called Trinity Wonder which sits at 30 chapters currently. The funny thing is, when I looked up its current status it turned out that they took a break in October with that as well (lol) and season 2 is supposed to start in December.

Yeah, more Breaker is probably a long way off.

Add me to the camp that liked Breaker and thought New Waves was only decent with a couple great moments sprinkled in here and there,

tbh, after being regularly impressed by the way women are written in MHA, it made it hard to ignore the way other series just fail at it. One Piece is especially bad in comparison.

I liked Breaker and I liked New Waves.
Both were good in parts and both have disappointing ends, though New Waves probably has a worse end because of the way it leaves the reader feeling like he/she got trolled.
New Waves has badass old men in spades though so that makes up for it to me. Also, part 3 is gonna happen.

The I'll have here is that I only started reading One Piece about halfway through the Fisherman Island arc, I had already watched up to the end of the alabasta arc when it used to be shown on Toonami. I then went back and re-read all of it in one sitting (800 chapters I think it was at that time), so for me a lot of the drop in 'quality' had already happened before reading some of the best arcs. So for me it felt more like a fluctuation in quality more than a drop in quality.

Well, at least OP is slowly moving away from damsels in distress every arc so progress I guess?

Nah, in hindsight I'd say that OG ending was worse because it was a big cliffhanger that is basically ignored for 90% of New Waves.

I need to stop before I end up ranting about The Breaker for the rest of my life.

Yeah, I will say that in retrospect the ending to Breaker was awful mostly due to the complete lack of follow-up. It had emotional punch and a good end just normally but then it...didn't...go anywhere?

My first reaction was "who the fuck is Sera". Reaction remains after googling it, I guess she was in the helicopter or something?

Jinnie or bust. She carried that manhwa for me.

One Piece is on toonami again, we even have a sizable community that gets together to watch every saturday night.

Before conversation veers away from Breaker, quick recommendation for people who liked Breaker in general, you might want to give Veritas a shot if you haven't already.

7197bc8094eff76d26118cdaa57e45b9.jpg

They have a lot of similarities (both silly melodramatic a lot of the time, both really focused on the inheritance and preservation of martial arts techniques, both got some pretty rad fights super saiyan/martial art level bullshit fights). And sadly I would say a lot of the same problems too, so if you're particularly against jiggling boobs mid fight, or can't stand a ridiculous nonsensical story, maybe not for you.

Basic premise is this kid whose name I couldn't bother to google meets the raddest of motherfucking martial arts masters and said master passes his legendary style on to him, making the kid the sole heir. The kid is then invited to a school entirely focused on sharing and perfecting martial arts from all around the world and the big bad elites of the school want to steal this super awesome style from the kid. Fight's ensue and dumb plots take place. The martial arts in this are duuuuuumb and border on JoJo-esque (think part 3) but they are still pretty entertaining to read.

Also, more importantly, it has the best, most "Shit! We're out of time! Gotta wrap this shit up!" cliffhanger's I've ever read. just thinking about it is making me laugh, it's so bad and ridiculous. Point is, I remember having fun reading this and you might too. And again, the fights are pretty rad if very silly.

Veritas is a whole other level of garbage. I can barely remember the MC or anything he did besides staring down main blonde totes not love interest villain chick.

It took me like twenty minutes of searching to find it, I totes forgot the name and will in like half an hour. Yeah, it's pretty trash but if there's one thing about it's that the ending makes it "so bad it's good" territory for me. That and the dude who used a sacred can opener technique on some dude's skull.

I went through a manwha phase when I was younger, like "Manwha is so much better than manga it's got such better art and action and fucking" and then I woke up from my coma.

Was Verita the one with the Lightning Tiger and the Girl who ends the world and then the Main Character shows up just before we fade to black? Or was that another terrible martial art manhwa?

I think the only one I can remember being actually "good" was some nonsense about a guy who used a hidden gun in his sleeve for some cool kills, used to be best friends with the devil who was also ruling Japan at the time, and he traveled around with a girl with a big sword who was in BDSM gear until she was revealed to actually be a way sicker looking demon thing at the end. Also a talisman that summoned like fifty dudes. I don't remember it well, but was one of the early things I read that really solidified my love of "MC lies to win his fights, morals are for chumps." which to this day is my favorite damn thing in a character.

I think it was the same cause the kid had lightning powers and I also have a memory of him casually using his fist like a taser on some chick's foot as he was on the ground from the beat down she gave him.

Shin Angyo Onshi.
I remember liking it a lot, but details are already fuzzy.

Eh I don't know. I think Horikoshi definitely has room for improvement when it comes to female characters. Uraraka lately has felt a bit too focused on her feelings for Midorika. It's not that it is bad that she has these feelings it's just that it feels like whenever she has been on screen recently her feelings for Midoriya have become the focus.

Even with chapter 109 where it looks like she was going to have a big push forward character wise nothing really came from it other that her non offensively doing her job. Like it would be nice for her to get something involving her family or making money for them again like in the tournament.

Oh shit, wait, Shin Angyo Onishi was actually really good. I'd say it still holds up even with some problems. The ending was rushed but good in concept, as well as execution.

Nope you nailed it. The MC was an asshole but then you realize everyone fucking was plus the martial art he was learned was pretty fucking baller and the art has some good moments.

I actually thought it was ridiculous enough to become a fan and it sucked to learn that it will more likely never return.

Mob Psycho Latest

Akame ga Kill 77

ding dong the witch is dead

and hopefully there won't be another threat so it can end and i can stop reading it

Akame Ga Kill 77

For a manga that has pretty much become murder porn, that was a pretty tame death.
Looks like next chapter should make up for it though.

Fire Brigade Of Flames 56

What did I just read??? Does Arthur literally channel the spirit of Excalibur from Soul Eater.. or is he that wrong in the head..

Gintama 665

Didn't think It could get any weirder after Fire Brigade Of The Flames but Gintama got me with this chapter... I almost feel we needed a counter for how many *enises got ripped of this chapter..

Akame Ga Kill

The most satisfying chapter I've read in a long ass time. Loved, loved, loved how Esdeath straight up died. No eternally freezing herself in a block of ice, she's just gone. And lmao at Leone still being alive. Girl is clearly being powered by yuri.

I mean, I'll still say a lot of manwha art is really good.

Like, Boichi's art is fucking incredible.

But...y'know...everything else...
Don't talk to me about Boichi. Wasted potential, SKR could've been revolutionary but when Ken became big league it all turned to shit.

Also accurate.

Man, that Death Note thread in OT is giving me a good laugh. Sometimes for a bunch of generally educated people I think that GAF can be pretty insular and not really prone to critical thinking past things that they know or accept. Like no one took a philosophy 101 course or took one and was like "Well those ones are wrong cause I don't agree with them" I just don't know why people don't ask "Why" more often or question things they know or assume to be right. I do that shit all the time. I'm a completely different person now than I was when I was 15. I'm always examining why I believe or do shit.

Eeeeh, it's super easy to justify your terrible actions under the banner "But I'm right, and what I'm doing must be good because how can anything I think is good really be bad?" You know, like how Light justified all his actions. Kind of afraid to go through that thread, but was there any talk of the whole Purgatory thing with the Death Note? It wasn't really explored much (in the anime, haven't read the manga and I know they cut a lot of stuff at the end) but the idea of Purgatory always freaked me the fuck out. As a Buddhist, I'm all about reincarnation and just a general movement of energy, so the idea of being trapped in any one place for the rest of my "life" is absolutely horrific. I feel like that should be more of a deterrent to people.

Car Graffiti JK 15

The daihatsu midget seems small even for a kei car. Also I think the author has a thing for french cars.
I feel for Miki though, working at weddings suck.

Seven deadly sins goes on hiatus due to authors health.

Message to Nanatsu no Taizai readers
Like always, thank you very much for reading “The Seven Deadly Sins”. Due to Nakaba-sensei hospitalization as a result of surgery, “The Seven Deadly Sins” will be in hiatus for a while. Please, do not be worried, his medical condition is not serious and he is fine.
Also, despite the main series being on hiatus for a while, the special side stories will continue being published. The main series serialization is schedule to be resumed in Issue 7 of 2017 (It will be available on January 18, 2017) (Wednesday)
Weekly Shonen Magazine Editorial Department.
Also below is a handwritten message from Nakaba that says the following:
I’m sorry to have to pause, but I plan to resume editing as soon as the medical allows. But we’ll be also keeping in touch at the mini series! Thank you so much for continuing to read and we’ll see each other very soon!

Gotcha thanks

Also how far did the first season of the anime cover? Was it 1:1? Mostly filler? Or a highlights of the story arc type anime?
Mostly 1:1 the way they ended was a little different then the manga so they could *conclude*.

Pretty sure that special was supposed to fix that, but I aint sure, since I did not watch the special.

But the anime is amazing, really worth a watch.

Yeah, anime is pretty good, but honestly, I could never stomach it for a really weird reason. I can't stomach Deadly Sins's official colorings. I think the color's the author chose for for them ruins a lot of designs. Especially for the armor (Most cases of just flat colored armor annoy the ever living heck out of me. Just be either gray metal, or a gold if they're important. Don't got to cover a fucking rainbow.). Not all the colorings bother me, but most of them do.

What is the context? From a oneshot/prototype included with the volume, or just a art page?

From Hyohaku on gamefaqs

I saw your post on neogaf. Tell that guy that this is an alternate volume cover. In Japan, some volumes have those book sleeve things, and when they're removed, there's alternate covers underneath. Unfortunately, they don't do that outside of Japan.

Yeah the first episode sold me on the series I just kept never getting around to reading/watching it that much till my physics class became a lost cause (not me passing, me learning the content from the teacher) so it became a natural time killer in class. Also my grade went up 13 points once I stopped paying attention in class and just reading 7DS and self teaching the content at home for the record.

We all have our problems with stuff we can't really explain, you don't like the colors of the 7ds anime and I just can't really like anime/manga where the MC has glasses, I can't explain why, but that's a huge turn off for me.

I guess that's one way to get into a series haha
