Shokugeki no Soma

Soma's still ways off from his goal of beating his dad.

But yeah, this is up there with One Piece as my "other must-read".

I've been preaching the good merits of shokugeki no soma since it came out. I'm glad that everyone has come around on it.

Food smut no more.

Well the name food smut really doesn't work for this series anymore. The first 5ish chapters would give the illusion it's a smut series though

It seriously does. Even though the story of FT wasn't the best I still liked reading it, but the fanservice has gone full retard to the point where I'm thinking I'm about to drop it.

Soma on the other hand has gone in the opposite direction and I think it's a better manga for it.

I'm surprised they've had so few Shokugeki in Soma so far. There's been literally one in 45 or so chapters. They do have generic food battles, but they set up the "rules" for official Shokugeki in like chapter 12 and never went back to it after Nikumi's arc.

My problem with FT/TLR level fanservice is that there's a level of fanservice where it starts to get annoying people aren't just fucking. Its the same reason softcore porn sucks - there's no reason to not just watch hardcore.

It's because the author knows that you can't just throw them out all over the place like they're Kurita posts. He's referencing the hell out of Yakitate Japan (and every other cooking-related arc in manga history), but it's clear they're not trying to be that manga. Pacing is surprisingly oldschool.

Though I say that right before a tournament arc so who knows.

The funny part is that the only people that actually want to engage Soma in one would be boring as shit. I'd rather see Italian Rival guy never come back.

Soma got destroyed as expected but it doesn't stop him from trying , plus his dad thought the dish Soma did was alright. Also I like when the artist goes to trolling/funny mode in the art (like where his dad starts to gloat about the win)

Maybe one day Soma will get that mark for the win column.
