Well look at that. What many of us said would happen. Although just for a week. No mention of PC. Now if they are really smart, you do F2P for all platforms. PC is the biggest Marathon segment, it would be better to do it there too.

This lines up with the launch of the previously announced Season 2, which is introducing a new map and shell (character class), alongside various seasonal challenges.

A week isn't going to matter without more substantial changes. More casual modes that let you keep more stuff, solo play, and pve will make a difference that probably won't be in for this.

It's a good idea overall, not much else they can do but try this sort of marketing.

The liveshit death spiral is well underway. We've already got:
1. Collapsed player numbers
2. The blast havers coping by saying it doesn't matter
3. The devs saying that they have a plan for years
4. Dead enders blaming the media or haters on X for the negative reception
5. Season N adding a bunch of shit that is obviously meant to appeal to people who skipped the game
6. Publisher saying it has underperformed (the write down)
7. Free week to convince people to play it
There's not much left to do but pull the plug. I'm really not sure it's gonna make it to Labor Day at this point.

Marathon will be hosting an Open Play Week that runs from June 2 to 9, giving all players on Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S a chance to play the full game's season two launch from an even playing field following an inventory wipe.
