I see toad Turnpike has been mentioned; good boy
Not to derail the track talk, but what do you guys think will happen with the roster? Mario Kart Wii had the biggest roster at 25 characters, but it got knocked down to 17 with Mario Kart 7.
I'm hoping for a big roster. I'd like to see them keep Shy Guy from 7 and maybe add a few characters from the "New" or "3D Land" series, since those seem to be the current Mario focus. Personally, my picks would be Lemmy or Roy Koopa and Nabbit.
Nintendo just confirmed on their twitter that Super Mario Kart is coming to the Wii U VC.
Source? can't find anything in ther Twitter/Facebook pages
I hope Nintendo is designing new multiplayer modes with asymmetrical gameplay in mind. It would be a waste not to.

Blue Shell said:That's always something that the designers have to think about, and make small adjustments to figure out the best thing for that particular game. That's part of the reason about why it's not out on the floor, because we're still thinking about that balance and what we're going to do with the blue shell. We'd like your opinion actually, what you're idea would be to have that thing go at you.
Third Party Characters said:The idea always come up during development of new "Mario Karts," but we believe there's a certain feel that "Mario Kart" has as a series, it's Mario kart, the "Mario Kart" characters are the ones that are going to be coming out. We almost feel like there's a secret rule that Mr. Miyamoto has that limits those new characters to just Mario. If we did it too much it would be "Smash Kart."
Don't tell anybody, but when we put the Miis in, Mr. Miyamoto was even kind of like, "You know, aren't you crossing the line here? This doesn't exactly feel like 'Mario Kart.'" But you know, with the Mii being a basic part of the console, we were able to put it in, and have him actually play it to get his sign off. It's still an unlock, you can't select a Mii from the get-go. So, for some reason it didn't exactly cross that secret line, but it kind of came close.
Concepts said:In "7" we had the glider, and submersion in water, and so when we were also thinking about new ideas for "8," and we thought, "well, since we did all that, why not put a drill on the karts, and have them go through the earth somehow, subterranean racing." But, we kind of thought that's not such an interesting idea, and after that we hit upon the antigravity mechanic.
Probably posted and discussed, but here it is anyway.

Mr. Miyamoto came in and evaluated the prototype, and thought that it wasn't really unique enough. But what he did focus on was the banana element, and he said, "Use the banana," which sent us in the direction of Donkey Kong, which then snowballed into using all those Mario characters from the other games. And then when we hit upon that, it was like "that's it, that's the way we have to go."
I can't think of anything else to make it more fair besides decreasing it's appearance rate.
what I'd do with blueshells
- those farthest behind still get them more often, but not as often as it is now.
-get rid of blueshell aoe
-blueshell still targets first place but acts like a redshell
-it can run into other targets on the way to 1st place and be destroyed
-there is a warning (or "check" like F-Zero) to let you know it's coming
maybe
-There is a small chance to hop and avoid the blueshell or drift sparks can destroy them on speed boost activation.
It would never hit the target if it did the bolded.
Also, why get rid of the AoE? If I'm in first place, one of the only defenses I have is to try to make sure that second place gets hit also.
Yeah, no course in any Mario Kart game gets me quite in the zone like Toad's Turnpike. Constantly drifting between and around cars, knowing when to slow down or when to use a certain power up, I think it's the most fun level in any kart racer I've played. Actually takes a consistent effort just to stay in good position.that N64 stage Toad's Turnpike has to make it in this game
loved that stage when i was a kid and everyone struggles in it, unless they take out a lot of the cars and buses that plaque the stage

Yeah, it would literally hit everyone in front you.
Actually, I think they sould make the AoE broader... after all, if it's coming after you, it better causes as much damage to others as possible.
For a minute I was wondering what the Mario Kart team would do next because it felt like they released 7 recently and 8 would be out relatively soon. Then I realized that given their standard 2-3 year dev cycle their next game would be out in 2016 or 2017 and the 3DS would almost certainly have a successor in need of MK9.
i want a blue shell that starts at the back where it's fired, races up to right behind the next immediate player, and the split second before it hits them, it darts out of the way. so it kinda freaks everyone on the way up out. it also has a chance of hitting more than just player #1, it could have a chance of picking any of the players on the way up as well, although the players at the top would have the highest chances of getting hit and it'd decrease as their position goes lower. or it could hit all of them. it'd be more Mario Kart-y and just be completely random. you fire off a blue shell and who knows what the hell it'll do, it could screw one guy, it could screw everyone. it pisses off the guy in position #1 less often, it provides more benefit and entertainment to the player in last place. it'd just be funny looking, too.
Do you guys think they will add anti grav sections to the legacy tracks like they did glider sections to the ones in mk7? That would be awesome but may prove difficult no?
