Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - overview trailer (JP)

Anyone who skipped the original MK8 is in for a FEAST.

MK8D is looking to be the most content complete Mario Kart game ever. Quality and quantity up the wazoo.

I agree. This is a good enough package to double-dip. MK8 is the best in the franchise, and as such can be heralded as one of the best games of all time. Having the game on the go, with the ability to challenge anybody to a duel locally is easily worth the money.

Did they improve textures or the framerate issue or is this literally just a port with battle courses and a few donkey characters?

The new characters are great so excuse you.

Textures seem to have no improvement but the dropped frame from the Wii U version is gone.

I don't believe textures have been upgraded, however the game does now run at 1080p (docked) instead of 720p on the WiiU. Also, the 59fps issue on the WiiU was reportedly solved. Some multiplayer modes also have a better frame rate if I remember correctly.

I don't think textures are improved, but the resolution docked is 1080p and the frame-rate issue has been taken care of, leading to the game being 60fps. Portable mode is 720p60fps. Split-screen multiplayer with two players is still 60 fps. If you have four players playing on the tv though, the frame-rate goes to 30 fps (so 1080p30fps). The battle course and the five different options of the improved Battle Mode are there, but there's no new race tracks. All the tracks from the DLC are included in the package. I disagree that the characters are "donkey" since King Boo, Dry Bones and Inkling Kids are great along with Bowser Jr. (some of them should have been in the initial game instead of Pink Gold Peach though in my opinion...). Gold Mario is just an additional character for beating 200cc.

I did play the hell out of MK8 on Wii U and boughtt all the DLC, but I really love battle mode. I pretty much only played battle mode online in MK7. MK7 had great battle mode.

It's really remarkable to see a game look this good on a handheld, but unfortunately the effect has been somewhat mitigated by already playing it on the Wii U Gamepad. So it's hard to be quite as impressed as I should given the circumstance.

How did you find Bayonetta cheesy and repetitive but not DmC or Castlevania, especially with their inferior combat system?

I wouldn't really say Pikmin is comparable to any RTT / RTS out there, at least from what I've played at any rate, and what game makes Splatoon look like a poor man's version of it because I'd love to know. Never played a shooter quite like it

I guess the case of Bayonetta is subjective as anything, but as far as I recall it has a pretty clunky and imbalanced combat system, rewarding reuse of the same attacks repeatedly. At least that's how I perceived it on a first playthrough (which is bad enough).

Pikmin is, in my opinion, just badly designed. Even if nothing is exactly comparable in terms of theme and style, it's still not a good RTT, IMO.

To me, Splatoon is a very mediocre, gimmick'y FPS best compared to TF2 (which seems way deeper). I never found the motivation to get further into Splatoon, though, so perhaps it holds hidden value if you force yourself into it. But again, it just feels like a bad shooter to me coming from PC FPSes, and that's a failure.

still missing the SP adventure mode like the goat, DKR.

but this does look chock full of goodies. will love to play whenever i get a switch

I'm sure they would have to renegotiate their advertising deal since it's a new game/console. Maybe Mercedes doesn't want to pay again?

Hmm, that's a valid point.
Hope they get the Mercedes stuff back for this port as well.
Silver Arrow is one of the best looking karts in the game.

Renegade Roundup looks like a lot of fun.

Saw that Shine Thief didn't have a time limit (since it wouldn't make much sense for the mode, I guess), but didn't catch it for balloon battle. Here's hoping.

What harm could there have been to add more characters? Zelda is in it. Might as well add star fox and some of the smash crew. I mean, why not?

You mean besides the five new characters they already added (six if you want to count Gold Mario)?

Probably trying not to step on any toes for potential DLC or MK9.

So it's still 30fps with 3-4 players :/

Has this been confirmed?

(thread is pretty large and I'm being lazy)

This really bothered me and my friends on the WiiU and one of us would have to stop playing after some point since the frame rate was making them dizzy...

That said, we have two Switches between us and like several monitors, so we can presumably do 60FPS setups with at least 4 players.

Confirmed. Game logic hasn't changed any and it's still rendering two players on every other frame, so 30 FPS.

I wasn't going to double dip, but having a battle mode and the return of holding two items at once (like god intended) is enough for me.
Plus, Mario Kart is my wife's favorite game, which pretty much makes it my favorite game.

Wish that it wasn't another month and a half away... Guess that gives me time to complete Zelda and get my screen protector..

I'll double-dip as long as there is no gotcha that makes the single-player experience on Wii U superior in any way. I'll sell the Wii U version and upgrade.

Still can't believe there aren't any new race tracks. For someone like me that already has MK8 and doesn't care about battle mode, there is no reason to double dip at all. Doubly so since I refuse to pay for online.

Will wait for MK9.

Sure, let's add Gold fucking Mario of all things but ignore the main mode everyone cares about. I still can't believe there's not a single new racing track in a racing game. Battle Mode is trash and will always be trash.

Just another slap in the face.

MK8 on the go is enough for me to double dip considering the amount of traveling I have coming up.

I really wish Nintendo had made Rainbow Road N64 remake properly with the entire track as one lap.

Cant wait for this im double dipping for battle mode alone as my friends and i love battle mode but hated the original one i 8 so this is a blessing.

Sir I disagree

This isn't the thread for it but wow, I disagree so hard

I've been trying to find out everywhere but is there any news on being able to turn off the time limit in Battle Mode for a straight elimination match like Mario Kart 64? Because until that's possible, I'm not very interested.
