Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - overview trailer (JP)

I think that's a umistake. The switching aspect is such a large factor that it's become synonymous with that product. Having dealt with similar situations, I can imagine customers who don't do their homework making a fuss because the new switch they purchased can't switch.
If the messaging was right it wouldn't be much of an issue. It'd be targeted at people who want to play switch but are on a bit more of a budget or just want the handheld experience, they could also upgrade by just buying a dock, which Nintendo will hopefully drop the price on.

I imagine this will be a big deal for the switch owners who didn't get a Wii U. Kinda similar situation to Sony re-releasing The Last of Us at the start of the gen so that people who didn't get a PS3 could get on board.

Well it is probably the next great thing after Sonic Racing Transformed, so I'm doubledipping the hell out of it

The first one was great and it's looks superb for the Switch

Are you sure? I don't recall that in the SNES one, it seems the shells would go straight to your adversary that's why you could do stuff like this:

Admittedly it's been an age since I've played some of them, and a lot of mechanics were different with there only being two players.

But looking at 64 again it does seem like the shells immediately target players regardless of if there's a clear path or not. I might not actually know as much as I thought I did.

Never played MK8 on my Wii U, so this was a no-brainer. With this and Puyo Puyo Tetris in April my Switch will not want for games!

Hardly.

Nways, Inklings look so cool in Mario Kart 8.

It is Switch new killer.

It has sufficient new content and convey the message well enough for the hardcore Nintendo to double dip. For newcomers, it has all the previous DLCs along with the added improvements in Deluxe.

It may be not for you personally but from a sales angle, I think this will do very well.

hopefully I can get my Switch before this ships...

I'm glad I held off on WiiU a lot of these experiences will be brand new for me. Hopefully Smash gets remastered as well.

Yup definitely picking this up when I buy a Nintendo Switch.

Day one since MK8 was so amazing. I hope they do more DLC for this game throughout the life of the Switch. I would rather have that than an MK9.

Yep. This has great sales potential for both itself and the Switch. For millions and millions of potential customers, this is basically a brand new game.

Kind of sad that it seems only two of the battle maps are returning ones?

Like we couldnt get Pipe Plaza or Funky Stadium back?

MK8 is probably my favorite Mario Kart so I don't mind double dipping on this one. Plus I never got a chance to check out the DLC for the game and I'm super amped for online battle mode, which the Wii U version severely lacked. I'm down.

Double dipping for battle mode, on the go racing, and local multi-player will being out and about

Are double item an option or then norm now?

Thank goodness they fixed the battle mode and added in two items to hold now. However, where the fuck is block fort? That map is by far the best for battle mode.

It better come at least as DLC at this point since it’s not included in the base game.

Communication in the Wii U version was limited to spamming out quick chat phrases in the match lobby such as "I'm a little nervous" or "I'm using tilt controls". Which I oddly enjoyed doing.
I really hope we can easily have voice chat on switch and that the App is ready by then.

I want things to be easy and simple

You could voice chat with people on your friends list in the lobbies too.. Right? I'm sure you could..

[Edit] Yeah you can voice chat in private lobbies with friends only.

Yeah I think you're right

At the bare minimum, if we have a strict gaf lobby, we should be fine.

We just need the app, I don't have a long cord from couch to switch lol

We could not talk during races tho

Context: Lead tried to shadow me for the draft boost since the finish lane was coming up, ate the red shell that was after me instead

This game is great, just have lingering issues that punish leader's a bit too much in the franchise, but this stuff is why I love MK

(Issues being that it's easier to hold back in 2nd place and sling yourself into 1st at the end with draft boosts to avoid blue shell, rubberbanding, etc)

I totally understand people that aren't going to double dip, that's more than fair enough...

but this is absolutely going to be a killer app for the Switch.

Even if we were *just* talking about a handheld version of 8 for the 3DS that had the fidelity of MK7 I'd double dip for the tracks and the gameplay. I rebought MK7 digitally to have a portable version to play while I was really enjoying MK8. So obviously I'm all over that.

But this goes so much further than that. This is the ultimate on TV Mario Kart, the ultimate handheld Mario Kart, the ultimate online Mario Kart and the ultimate local MP Mario Kart.

Between the way it looks, the amount of content, and the features that any given mode of play provides... I don't think there's any question.

Single player onscreen you're talking about 1080p and true 60 fps.
Online you've added a proper battle mode.
Handheld, well, you're talking 720p and true 60 fps, plus the largest line up of tracks we've ever seen on a handheld Mario Kart. Oh, and a real analogue stick.
Local mp, obviously you've got 1080p and battle mode, but now you've also got the option to get all your friends owning a switch together, to get much more people involved in the experience and for anyone with a switch to have their own screen. Dunno about you guys, but I've got three friends locally with the system already.

So yeah. I'm all over the double dip.

It's Mario Kart. It will sell millions. It's just a question of how many millions.

I missed it on Wii U so I'll be more than happy to break bread on this. Looks amazing, my 2 year old is trying to play games. I wanna see how his mind handles this

I considering trading in my copy of Mario Kart 8 toward Deluxe and seeing how much that lowers the price. I'm hoping for a promotion announcement of trading in MK8 on Wii U gets you Deluxe for a really reduced price, but I don't know/think Nintendo will do that. It's possible, but I doubt it.

I'll probably wait until it gets closer to release since the game doesn't come out until April 28th and see about trading in MK8 and how much I get for it toward MK8D.

This will almost definitely be a system seller for the Switch. The audience that they're losing is essentially just "people who bought a Wii U, MK8 and all the DLC and don't feel the need to buy it again for their new Switch" which, I can imagine, is miniscule compared to how many new people this will manage to bring in. MK8 sold well, sure, but selling it for a console that people actually want will most likely make it sell gangbusters. I'm definitely looking forward to it, mainly just for the portable aspect but battle mode and the few new characters are also good.

...full disclosure I have preordered the game but only because I got £10 off in that recent Amazon deal thing.

We bringing back the Neogaf league? soo many all nighters when MK8 dropped on the WiiU, that shit was insanely fun.

The question is, have the in-game Amiibo been updated to support the new Switch-exclusive color options? They could probably avoid having to deal with hair cause of helmets, but you can use those colors on eyes, facial hair, etc.

Mario Kart 8 is the one game I was immediately amazing at and mastered every level instantaneously.

Definitely double dipping. Portable is too good to pass up. Mario Kart 7 was my jam.

XB2 is not making it out this year. ARMS is just an expanded Wii Boxing.

So really just Splatoon 2 and Mario for the first 9 months.

At the very least, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will come out this year... in Japan. Though I wouldn't be surprised if it got delayed like X was. I wouldn't doubt that some of the game was being worked out before Xenoblade Chronicles X was released. It coming out this year in the west would surprise me, but I wouldn't be shocked since development of X ended around November-December of 2014 since November was when they were in the final stage of development from this article.

I wouldn't say Arms is just expanded Wii Boxing since there is still an option for non-motion controls, even if you can tell its a focus on the game's initial reveal and demonstrations. Plus, the game hasn't come out yet and almost all of the previews have praised the game as having more depth than they initially thought through the move sets of the characters and such. I'd say just wait until the game comes out for the full details on how the game is.

The n64 version red shells were horrible because they could do 90 degree turns. The great thing of the SNES version was that the red shells had curve like if they were karts themselves.

Anyone who skipped the original MK8 is in for a FEAST.

MK8D is looking to be the most content complete Mario Kart game ever. Quality and quantity up the wazoo.

Did they improve textures or the framerate issue or is this literally just a port with battle courses and a few donkey characters?

Definitely buying this. I still play the Wii U version every couple of weeks online, and it's always an absolute blast. Preordered on amazon and eagerly waiting for the end of next month.
