Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - overview trailer (JP)

I found the gameplay of Bayonetta very repetitive and the style, story, characters too cheesy and cliche, even for a game which intentionally aims for over-the-top. I'd much rather play Darksiders, Castlevania, or DmC (of which I admittedly only played the reboot).

I'd rather take virtually any PC RTT over Pikmin 3, but of course PC RTT/RTS games have the advantage of M+KB, and I will concede that no cartoony RTTs other than Pikmin come to mind. I just don't think the theme and style make up for the tedious gameplay, though -- especially not for an RTT.
How did you find Bayonetta cheesy and repetitive but not DmC or Castlevania, especially with their inferior combat system?

I wouldn't really say Pikmin is comparable to any RTT / RTS out there, at least from what I've played at any rate, and what game makes Splatoon look like a poor man's version of it because I'd love to know. Never played a shooter quite like it

Yeah. My prediction is no price drop (lol at people expecting that year one) for Switch but a MK8DX bundle in time for Christmas.

Now, with the 8 player local running on 8 systems, if you somehow managed to find 8 TVs will the game let you effectively do a LAN party? Or will putting the Switch in dock mode disable 8 player local?

From the NoE PR:

"Up to 12 consoles in TV mode can be connected via LAN Play, with one or two players per connected Nintendo Switch"

Heck yes!

So we don't have to worry about the day Nintendo eventually takes down the servers. Makes me a lot more comfortable buying multiplayer centric games like Splatoon that didn't have great local multiplayer on Wii U.

If sales drop off a cliff they might do an emergency price drop like they did for 3DS, they can't afford to have the Switch fail.
I would not be surprised to see a cheaper SKU this holiday that doesn't come with a Dock or Joycon grip, especially if Pokemon stars hits this year.

I still can't see if this offers Split-Screen during Wireless Multiplayer...only LAN!

- Through Wireless Play, multiple Nintendo Switch consoles can be connected to each other, allowing up to eight people to play together in the same room

- Up to 12 consoles in TV mode can be connected via LAN Play*, with one or two players per connected Nintendo Switch**

Surely Wireless Play can have 2 people on a Docked Switch and 1 on an Undocked one...right?

Now that you mention it, all the Mercedes parts have been oddly absent from all the promotional material released so far (trailers, screenshots, gameplay videos, etc)

Hopefully they just think it's not really worth showing those off and not that they were removed completely for whatever reason.

I'm sure they would have to renegotiate their advertising deal since it's a new game/console. Maybe Mercedes doesn't want to pay again?

I have a feeling online will be awful due to people being on a poor wireless connection. Hopefully that's not the case. So far Bomberman has been unplayable, and Fast RMX hasn't been great online.

Also have a feeling it'll look worse on the Switch than it did on the Wii U, for whatever reason.

Hope I'm wrong because I'm really excited for this one.

It's already been confirmed by people whose played it at events that it looks better than the Wii U version mainly because it's in 1080p rather than 720p.

When online is still free sure... Once you have to start paying lol, so many people will stop playing including myself. I'm still gonna pick it up for local play with my GF and friends.

Hasn't it been confirmed that the price is like $20 a year? I mean, I pay for Amazon Prime at $99 a year, $20 a year doesn't sound bad at all.

XB2 is not making it out this year.

Whats with the lack of trust for Monolith getting the game out when they said they would?

XB2 is not making it out this year.
Them announcing it for this year makes me think they're pretty confident, though if it does hit this year the western release might come in 2018.
It's been a bit since X and this is likely using an updated version of that engine.

ARMS is just an expanded Wii Boxing.
That's about as accurate as saying Titanfall is just an expanded Wolfenstein 3D.

It looks glorious. Thank God for the Switch, I'd never get a chance to play it otherwise (was never gonna own a Wii U). This was the game that made me want a Switch but the hype for Zelda made me bite and get it on launch weekend. So glad I did but I can't wait for MK8!

wasn't planning on double dipping but holy hell if that trailer didn't just sell me on that. the idea of a portable mario kart 8 makes my balls sweat with anticipation

ARMS is just an expanded Wii Boxing.

sounds like you don't actually understand what the game is

On one hand I can see valid complaints for MK8 being ported from Wii U owners..

On the other hand, this thing is going to blow past Wii U sales.. and that's awesome for Nintendo, IMHO probably the best MK of all time, AND for players/fans of this game.

People love to romanticize the Saturn, Vita, TG-16 (in the US), and now the Wii U. All great systems with retrospective libraries containing some of the best titles in gaming.. and gamers love getting titles from those systems ported to a wider audience. I mean I know the Wii U body is still warm, but there are a number of games on that system that deserve wider audiences. MK8 is one of them.

Beyond that, if we are looking at having a system seller like MK8 1 month after launch, vs having MK9 like 2 years after launch..especially with as relatively low sales that MK8 had (within the series). This is a smart move for Nintendo.

Can't wait. I criminally put way too little time into this on Wii U.

Edit - 2 questions. First, does this support download play? A friend claimed it did but I'm not seeing anything on it. Second, does it support ad hoc multiplayer, and how many? 4? 8?

So really just Splatoon 2 and Mario for the first 9 months.

The amount of drive by shit posting in every thread has been completely out of control lately.

This was a good trailer. 40 characters and 48 tracks seems like a whole hell of a lot. What was the final count in the Wii U version after the second DLC pack?

Just not sure what the incentive is to get this for someone who put 80+ hours into MK8 on the Wii U. No new tracks and now you'll have to pay to play online.

Not what I was hoping for out of this one.

game looks glorious as ever

they better have some more DLC tho and Callie and Marie better make the cut

It honestly wouldn't surprise me that a future DLC Pack will be created for MK8D, as the original Wii U version was one of the system's evergreen titles. I'm surprised that 8 Battle Arena's (both old and new) will be included in Deluxe right out of the gate, and would be down for some more inclusions.

So is the CSS going to just have an awkward empty line after Gold Mario, or is he just going to be a recolor option for Metal Mario, or is there an entire other line of characters being added (maybe as DLC?)

Yeah, there isn't much reason to buy the Switch version if you already have the Wii U version. This is definitely intended for people who didn't own a Wii U or Mario Karting 8

Funky Stadium is the only arena I'm really upset isn't making a comeback TBH.
Ahh...Funky Stadium. Kind of forgot all about it. Yeah, that'd have been a fun battle mode course

Glad I didnt play it as much on the WiiU. I think there will be a lot of double dippers and its practically a new game for me. Time to sell my WiiU copy.

Yep, I ended up returning my 1-2-Switch copy (didn't open it for a couple days and ugh, it just isn't for me ,even though I wanted to try the ball count game to demo HD rumble).

Ended up exchanging it towards MK8DX pre-order. Looks like I made the right decision, the trailer looks fantastic.

The same as always I'd expect, they head straight ahead unless they lock onto a target.
They go straight ahead? On the racing mode they don't always chase the next adversary or do they?
On Mario kart SNES as soon you fired theyd chase the near person to you and they had curve physics too.

Great if you didn't buy it for the Wii U, but there's no way I'm hyping myseld up or double dipping. I can play MK8 tonight if I choose.

In battle mode in other games they've always gone straight ahead until they lock on (though in 8 they would follow the track for a bit, since you're battling on race tracks). They follow the track for a while in races.

I think that's a mistake. The switching aspect is such a large factor that it's become synonymous with that product. Having dealt with similar situations, I can imagine customers who don't do their homework making a fuss because the new switch they purchased can't switch.

That aside. I'm really hoping for some dlc maps here down the road.

Are you sure? I don't recall that in the SNES one, it seems the shells would go straight to your adversary that's why you could do stuff like this:
