Mario Kart 8 Info Thread

Rosalina is Nintendo's Lightening confirmed.

Still waiting for artwork of all the other racers... >.>

I haven't been this excited for a Mario Kart title since Double Dash.

I even created an account after months of just lurking around haha.

I do have a question tho, do we need a wii motion plus controller or can we use a regular wiimote? I never played Mario kart wii.

Trivia time: Martinet was probably kicked in the nuts before recording, his voices sound a bit higher than usual.

It's funny you mention this because Luigi has a deeper voice in this game compared to MKW/7
Wonder what they were doing to him when he was recording his Luigi lines.... (...) Ohh...!

also who is making the Review Thread? I want to see them 10s!

I don't know but I'll link it to the OT and quote the reviews so everyone can read them without going back and forth between both threads.

It's funny. I have every Mario kart game since double dash but I have never been excited for one until now. I'll probably switch between Yoshi, Waluigi, Rosalina and Lemmy although I am tempted to use Pink Gold Peach just because of the fan backlash against her.

wiimote will work just fine, and welcome to GAF

There is testing to be done. But was speed really king in MK7? In most of the series, some amount of acceleration was always paramount, if not the most important stat.

Ok, seriously. You link to a tweet, which links to an article, which then contains the video.

Here's the actual video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrX1yRlLbOE

I find his impressions really interesting.
And I'm glad that at least it seems it'll be hard to find "the perfect combo" in this game.
Like Yabuki said, some vehicles are better than others stat wise but now, tracks play a big role as well. What works the best for X track, it would play against you in Y track.
Name it.. long straight lines, sharp corners, wide turns, hazards, etc.
If what he said about the type of terrains (sand, snow, etc) is correct, then that's another thing to consider when selecting your combo.

I finally finished writing the review! Here, have a crab:

The crab has 5 teeth and 2 eyes.
5 - 2 = 3

The crab has 2 claws and seems to have 6 legs.
6 / 2 = 3

6 legs + 2 claws + 2 eyes = 10
Nintendo's E3 Direct is on June 10.

Half Life 3 will be revealed at the Nintendo Direct as a Wii U exclusive.

I saw something on gamesradar saying they'll have their review out at 12:01 am PT, but I'm not sure whether or not some places might be able to have it out earlier, given that it's almost midnight on the east coast right now

I think this image just forced me to main Rosalina in Smash4. How can they pull off pink hair so well?

EDIT: Now my desktop. Thanks.

Yeah.
I mean, Nintendo definitely should have produced more gamepad exclusive games(Like gamepad centric equivalents to the "Wii Series" or something.) but they don't always need to use the damn thing in every one of their traditional franchises. Especially when it would serve no real purpose.

There aren't many compelling things to do with it outside of showing stats or making it a rear view mirror. I really don't want to look down while I'm racing. :/

Personally I feel this would've been the perfect opportunity to use the gamepad to bring back the Double Dash mechanic. The driver uses a wiimote while the gunner uses the pad as a moving reticule for firing whatever weapon is in stock. Wouldve given the entry a new spin and furthered Nintendo's argument for couch co-op.

I'm going to pick up a Wii U Pro controller for this myself.

You can use non motion controls with the Wii remote and nunchuck. I like this control scheme cause you aren't confined to a controller, can be lazy and loose.

I did play MKWii that way. The thing is, though, that I've heard a lot of good feedback on the Pro Controller, and would love to try it out myself.

I bought one already, but I have a couple wiimotes that I want to use for Multiplayer.

The Pro controller is great by the way
