Mario Kart 8 Info Thread

This game is done, just put it on the eShop already. Nintendo has a way of driving me nuts while waiting for games. I bought a pro controller today in anticipation, so hype.

I would forget all about E3 if I could play this right now.

I'll need to check my backlog I have many good games I have not finished
I need to avoid all MK8 hype for awhile

About those sticks, they look like one of these

I mean, they doesnt even have the line anymore and theres no trace of it.

It is! Not online yet but on the EDGE physical magazine. It got a 9! Some guys with the magazine have been kind to share some of the highlights on the review a few pages back on this thread :)

Awesome! edge is the one that gives everyone a hard time so if mario kart pleases them alot than expect alot of 8's-9's

The online was lagless atleast when I used to play it. It was great. Shit game tho.

The graphics were not that bad considering what it was achieving.

Yeah, not the worst looking game I've ever seen by any stretch but the Galaxy games looked really slick so they didn't tap into the power it seems.

Different systems obviously but 3D World is visually striking in a lot of areas and Mario Kart 8 even looks more impressive to me.

Battle mode has always sucked since the N64 days. At this point, I actually wish they take it out or just use retro courses.

Yep. And entirely undeserved.

Sounds in the ballpark from how they were talking about it. The only thing they lamented was the continued degeneration of battle mode.

As much as I love Battle Mode, I'm used to them not taking it too seriously nowadays.

It doesn't bother me TOO much.

I downloaded Mario Kart 64 just for the Battle Mode not too far back and I don't even have many people to play against like I used to(I liked that mode THAT much).

I'm back to enjoying racing though which is why I loved the series in the first place.

I'd be all over Battle Mode DLC but while I think DLC is a strong possibility, I don't necessarily think Battle Mode DLC is.

With all this said, I wonder how the yet-again disappointing Battle Mode will affect reviews.

Not that I care as I and most will get the game anyway but will they dock points for it???

If I was a reviewer, I'd mention it being kind of shitty but the main course is still the racing so I don't think it'd affect my opinion too much.

That's why I think 9.5-9.7 for IGN is a good bet. Battle mode is worth 0.3 points.

Like you, I'm just happy the main course looks so delicious this time.

The IGN Nintendo Voice Chat podcast is heaping glowing praise onto this game. They all love it.

7.9
The Double Dash 7.9 always bugged me. The game was easily a flat 8/10 if not better based on the fun factor alone. Then again, that was just my brother and I having an absolute blast day in and day out, ending up playing the game probably more than any other MK thus far.

It's just a score but yeah, a younger me was a bit baffled to see an MK game get a score that wasn't really high.

As for MK8, if we're talking IGN in particular and those guys are having a great time, I'm thinking they'll shoot a 9.1 at it or something like that. The whole Battle Mode thing is probably going to be what hurts the game and keeps it from getting the same scores as, say, Mario 3D World. You can have an awesomely fun and polished experience but flawed inclusions are part of the package and you have to score what's there.

I kept the best of the best Gamecube games I had due to the Wii having backwards compatibility...except for Double Dash:[

I guess I figured I'd have Mario Kart 7 and it was expendable but the other night because of all this Mario Kart hype, I was going to look in my drawer and hope it magically appeared.

I probably wouldn't have played it much but I wish I had it for the time being.

Just played a few races of the demo at a store during my lunch break. Basically all I was interested in is how it felt, and it felt totally natural coming from MK7 and nothing like DD or MKW that I struggled to get through a single GP recently because of how they handled. Nothing else to say really, it did look fine but I was like 1m from a 37 (I think) inch screen so things didn't look how they would at home of course.

Block Fort and Triple Decker were god-tier, get out of here. And as I recall, some of the portable ones had decent battle modes as well.

Skyscraper is also pretty up there just for the shenanigans you can pull on the outer ring and the ability to combo people with shells into long falls for 2 balloons.
