Mass Effect 3 Debut Trailer - Holiday 2011 - 360/PS3/PC

Well this whole EA website leak and VGA announcements have been somewhat cathartic for me. Now I can bury all my hopes and expectations from ME 1 and just accept whatever Bioware is shoveling out the door. Bring on Dudebro Effect 3.

Yup, it's pretty ridiculous. So ME2 ignored the main plot a bit, that's its only crime. :lol

Not sure what's with all of this backlash suddenly.
Backlash always comes around one year later on Gaf, it's a vicious circle.

I surely did. However, ME2's world and fiction don't try to make sense anymore. Bullshit about humanity's genetic diversity, instant communication using quantum entanglement, aquarium in a military spaceship, fucking disgusting interspecies sex etc.

You must love startrek.

Its more of an announcement cycle than anything. The backlash was always there its just that no one notices it until it shows up in an announcement thread for the sequel.

While we are talking about it, the ME2 soundtrack was generic and forgettable. It didn't have any of the flair or soul of ME1's soundtrack.

Bioware is huge though, no reason for it to get delayed.

Bioware definitively has the manpower to release the full game within 2 years, but it's still risky.Just look at Insomniac and what happened with Resistance 2. :P

What's worse is that I completely agree with most of the hate. I loved Mass Effect 1 and have beat it around 6-7 times. I only went through Mass Effect 2 one time and it took me a few months. It just wasn't the same. That said, it is still my number two favorite IP of this generation and I pray ME3 recaptures some of the magic that made ME1 so great.

The best track in the game isn't even on the OST

I am not getting my hopes up. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Edit: I guess that's because its not an original track though. Shame.

The ME2 soundtrack is fantastic even compared to it's predecessor. The overall quality is better. I can listen through the whole album without skipping songs whereas in ME's case I'd pick 4 maybe 5 songs nowadays and skip the rest. The overall best track is ME's main theme tho,no doubt.

WTF? This looks incredible real

I can agree that the main plot is ass, but for me the interspecies stuff is splendid entertainment. The reason I mentioned the loyalty quests is I found them much better paced and more engaging than most of the primary story missions.

Wow, they really didn't think the Reaper thing out too much did they? Oh well, they were just a rip off of the Shivans from Freespace anyway. :lol

No the backlash thread was separated from the OT in the Story Discussion thread. If you never went in there you wouldnt know. So its always been around.

The backlash of ME2 was rampant in all of the threads. The story thread in particular turned into nothing but backlash.

Well I stayed away from the OT cause I figured those people can have their circle jerk without me ruining it. There was already a place for me to take my complaints.

And very justified.

Unfortunately I suspect ME3 will resemble ME2 more than ME.

Simplify, simplify, simplify. That seems to be the new Bioware motto, with DA being another example of this.

Single biggest concern: small, linear levels like ME2 and not the great, epic and more open levels from ME.

All this Mass Effect talk is making me want to play, Freespace 2.

*I went to the wiki and was reminded of something I had completely forgotten.
As much as I love Freespace 2 and Shivans, the Shivans and Reapers don't have that much in common other than the fact they're bad guys in black ships.

Wow all this London wreckage created perfectly linear corridors and chest high walls...fascinating.

Before we post again, let's take a moment to consider why we post.

Are we posting to answer or raise a question? To discuss a new perspective? Are we posting to make someone else think about some point they raised or hold dear? Are we being provocative for the sake of being provocative or do we have a larger point we wish to make?

If the answer to all of those is, "No, I want to complain about gaf/gaf hivemind/a dumb poster/this thread," it would be fantastic if you could endeavor to fuck off.

I'd like more open mission design like ME1 for sure, but I'll take ME2's variety of ME1's lack thereof. I enjoy seeing more locations and going more places.

EDIT: Oh, we've hit the "obvious cover" stage, when ME1 was ripe with obvious cover as well, and ME2's obvious cover made for far superior gunplay.

After reading through the thread, you'd think that Mass Effect 2 was a bad game or something...

sigh

Many people have stated that they were disappointed with ME2 or that they liked what ME2 improved but didnt like some of the things it discarded or ignored. This doesnt mean they thought it was bad.

I really can´t feel any hype for the game based on that trailer. It felt more like Call of Duty than the original Mass Effect, and I believe that the gameplay will be far to similiar also. :\ I would have been more convinced if the scene had resembled the one from the beginning of Mass Effect 1, where Saren arrived with Sovereign.

GOD DAMN I AM SO HYPED THAT MASS EFFECT 3 IS COMING OUT SO SOON

OHMYGODTHISISSOAWESOME !!!

Hope they balance this out and take the best from ME1 and ME2 (and improve that even further) Environment diversity in ME2 was great. Bigger scale missions and epic moments in ME1 were great. So melt those two things and add a more fleshed out RPG system.

Well, aside from that I don't really recall a lot of ME1's combat taking place in open areas. The only time I remember that happening is when you were controlling the Mako.

The game is a year away but I guess your post is supposed to be some kind of ironic post or something.

Yeah Feros, Noveria, and Therum were all a bunch of corridors outside the Mako sections. I guess Virmire had a little bit more freedom in the ways you could approach the base which was nice.

Yeah, I don't get that complaint either. ME1 was just as filled with boxes and cover, you just didn't need to use it at all, and the missions were equally linear. There were a couple of times were you could choose two paths but other than that...

Not so much open as in large spaces, but open in the dynamic, like going between a hub world and mission areas on Feros. The lines between hub and missions were blurred, something ME2 failed at with its more rigid 'level' like structure, complete with 'mission complete' screen.

I'd like more of those, where it doesn't play like a mission but instead like a little hub of its own. But I also much prefer the variety of ME2's locations, and I wouldn't want that to be a trade-off.

The 'obvious chest high cover' complaint is text book rose tinted glasses though. It was a bit more obvious in ME2, but it was plain as day in the first game as well, at least it was for me. In nearly every combat situation you'd have boxes, debree, and other crap conveniently placed for cover.
