May seems like a bloodbath! who is getting buried?

I think a lot of you are underestimating Doom. It has the potential to sell as big as what MKX did. It's a well known 90s IP everyone including your grandmother knows.

i feel like doom could go either way. but ultimately i'd expect it to be a slow burner like wolfenstein. something that does end up great, and spreads via positive work of mouth. i don't expect it's initial sales to be good. the MP has already put a lot of people off. it's the single player that will either make or break it.

Mortal Kombat never faded in the way Doom kinda has. We had three new Mortal Kombat games on the last gen alone. I'm not say it won't do well but the comparison is flawed.

I have these preordered:

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
DOOM
Homefront: The Revolution
Overwatch
Mirror's Edge: Catalyst

I can only get four of the five, and I'm one of those weirdos that thinks that Homefront looks good (the single player aspect, at least). But that will likely be the one that gets the axe for me.

And what the hell is going on with Mirror's Edge? Outside of that corporation promo type thing the other day, that game is on mute.

Guys, should I get DOOM on PC or X1??

I prefer using the Elite with FPS games, and while I'm sure DOOM will have controller support, I'll certainly be at a disadvantage versus KBM players. However, my PC will sure make this game look pretty...

I really have no expectations for that game, but as an anecdote, most of my friends know of and are interested in Doom. It's as well known and talked about as Uncharted 4 or Overwatch in a group of people that really only know about and play huge AAA releases (FarCry, AC, CoD - you know, the games everyone knows.) I'm not saying that's going to translate into sales or anything, but it's definitely got a huge leg up compared to, say, Mirror's Edge, which most people don't even know is releasing this month.

On-topic, I don't think it's a question of whether Battleborn fails, but rather how badly it fails. Will Gearbox survive to develop Borderlands 3? They've been working on that game for a while, the budget's likely significant. Homefront will also likely do poorly... Mirror's Edge will perform better than HF, but not by a huge amount.

Doom will sell decent, Evil Within-type numbers - not a huge hit, but acceptable returns and eventual profitability via Steam sales and such.

As for me personally, I'm in for Uncharted 4, Mirror's Edge, and Valkyria Chronicles.

Except do people still care about DOOM? Mortal Kombat has had previous installments which sold pretty good.

Doom hasnt been around since the 90's.

Gearbox will probably be fine no matter what, but I could still see Battleborn getting a dedicated following.

I hope you're right man, I really, really need Borderlands 3 to be a thing. Love that series.

It's just that there's this apathy I feel whenever Battleborn comes up in gaming circles... I feel like if it's gonna succeed, it's likely going to have to be slow burn success via word of mouth, and recieve continuous post launch support... Not exactly 2K's forte.

Uncharted 4 is all I care about.

Still waiting for my DoA Xtreme 3 to arrive from Asia so I'll be plenty occupied.

Just Uncharted for me and i wasn't even going to buy it day one, but since the glowing previews i think I'm getting it at the release now.

Doom multiplayer looks a lot more vertical and fast paced than your typical console shooter, so mouse and keyboard will excel considerbaly over a gamepad.

Maybe wait? If there's a good ladder system you'll be paired with m&K gamers that aren't very good, and everyone will still be having fun. If not, then it's m&k or the highway.

How much multi do you plan on doing?

I'm gonna buy the shit out of almost all of them. Be skipping Battleborn because.... Uhh, I don't think it's very good.

Particularly looking forward to Mirrors Edge and of course Uncharted 4.

Overwatch will be amazing, and I'll probably play it even though I'm over competitive multiplayer -- I expect it to be that good.

Doom is a Bethesda published game. A historical franchise on top of that. I don't think they have to fear about their release date as they are also on multiple platforms. No Uncharted on PC after all where Doom has always been king. Plus that multiplayer seems to be a draw that doesn't have any recent competition.
Bethesda publishing is not on the level of Ubi, EA, Sony, etc. and DOOM has been dead for like a decade or more so this is a reboot from a studio who's latest projects got lukewarm response to say the least.

Lol? Bethseda is a few times bigger than naughty dog.
Bethesda is a publisher, and for some reason you are comparing them to a studio. Maybe you got confused and are thinking of Bethesda Game Studios. Bethesda the publisher is not on Sony's size and budget level as a publisher. The size of id Software who is making DOOM and Naughty Dog the studio, are irrelevant.

Doom is also on multiple platforms. It'll do fine, I'm sure.

A little concerned at the lack of Mirror's Edge marketing, I too had no idea it was around the corner. After the development hell that game went through it would be a shame if it doesn't get an honest push from EA, but I can see it happening and sales being disappointing.

Homefront and Battleborn could also fall short of expectations, though I don't think the month is all that intimidating compared to others. Uncharted 4 will be a hit but it's not a clear the decks, GTA-type event for the competition.

Personally I'll be lost in Stellaris next month, not sure if I'll be picking up any of the big budget titles listed in the OP. Maybe Overwatch if it catches on.

Uncharted 4 and Overwatch will do very well. Mirror's Edge is screwed, which is sad, but the timing of that release date is very bad. Battleborn seems like Evolve 2.0.

Mirrors Edge and, funny enough, Dead Island remaster and for sure bought.

Uncharted some time later on sale. Waiting on impressions (or me playing the beta) for Doom.

Curious about Overwatch.

Meh. Uncharted and Doom maybe. Otherwise, the online games are not on my radar.

Even then, I will probably wait to see how long/good the games are before buying.

Out of the listed games, I think Uncharted 4, Battleborn, and Doom are not going to be buried.

Charted:

Uncharted 4
Mirror's Edge
Overwatch

Uncharted:

the rest of that stuff

I'm not too sure about Mirror's Edge. I think it will underperform.

Expect Uncharted 4 (duh) and Doom to do well. Probably Overwatch. Everything else... don't have a lot of faith in the others.

Doom is all I'm picking up. I'll wait to grab Mirrors Edge and TMNT when they are cheap.... Just have too many games I'm playing right now.

I actualy have a good feeling about Turtles. It's coming out close to the film, and that cartoon is very popular with kids. It might be overlooked by the NeoGAF audience, but there's definitely a market for that game.

TMNT and Mirror's Edge.

Last I checked my roommate was planning on getting U4, so I'll play his copy. Worst case scenario I might just rent it and buy it later.

Turtles will do well, especially in the long tail, because of the audience.

I highly doubt the audiences for Doom and Turtles cross very much. Or, hell, for most of the games on that list.

Just Valkyria Chronicles Remastered for me but I don't buy playstation titles at launch so I don't think I'm picking up anything next month.

Uncharted 4 already preordered.
Interested in trying Overwatch to see if I can still stomach this type of game after thousands of hours of TF2
Will be getting Mirror's Edge assuming EA didn't cock it up somehow.
Was mildly interested in Doom, but after watching the GB unfinished and hearing about the season pass, I'm probably gonna pass.

As for which will get buried...

Uncharted 4 & Overwatch - Easy May winners. Both will move millions of copies.
Doom and Mirror's Edge - will possibly survive on strength of marketing campaign, but will probably underperform. Moreso Mirrors edge, as Doom has a much more storied pedigree.
TMNT - eh probably lower expectations for this one, probably won't light the world on fire
Homefront and Battleborn - YOU ARE ALREADY DEAD. Homefront has a negative legacy and will only survive on word of mouth if it is really, REALLY good (which I don't think it will be). Battleborn also seems to have negative momentum, from Gearbox's recent legacy to the unfortunate alpha and beta experiences. Both will bomb, and bomb HARD.
