• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

May seems like a bloodbath! who is getting buried?

I honestly don't know what Overwatch is.

I'm mainly interested in Uncharted 4, TMNT, and Mirror's Edge, in that order, but depending on how much I'm still playing DS3 and/or Salt & Sanctuary by May, I might not buy any of them near launch.

Some quick thoughts.
I only see DOOM, Overwatch, and uncharted 4.

  • TMNT I don't know because of the fanbases.
  • There was a reason mirror's edge didn't get a sequel in reasonable time (It didn't sell well ). And since then, they're have been several indie games, that have done ME's hook to death.
  • Battleborn is to Overwatch as Final Combat is to TF2.
  • Homefront without multiplayer is like COD without multiplayer. Absolutely mind bottling.

Out of those I'll be buying Doom and Mirror's Edge. Mirror's Edge I think I have to have day one, as I was such a huge fan of the original.

I might wait on Doom, just too much on the go at the moment (sorry id)!

Everyone in that list but Uncharted and Overwatch is going to die a horrible death.

The only game that won't be a flat out bomb on that list is UC4.

While Stellaris wasn't technically mentioned in the OP, it's a May release and it will most certainly not bomb. In fact, if Paradox's other flagship grand strategy titles are anything to go by, Stellaris will still be going strong for years down the road.

Crusader Kings II (2012) and Europa Universalis IV (2013) are still seeing regular DLC releases as well as game-balancing updates. The communities are just as active today as they were at launch.

Stellaris won't sell Uncharted 4 numbers, but it will do just fine. And in all likelihood, will be still be going strong long after U4 is forgotten.

Stellaris will do fine indeed, will be a hit on Steam upon release with a long tail, though I can understand why it's not on people's radar if the focus is on console/AAA development. It's definitely the May game I'm looking forward to the most.

Definitely picking up Uncharted 4 and Mirror's Edge unless something is busted about them.

Doom is a maybe if the campaign gets solid reviews, and am actually semi-interested in Homefront for decent B-tier co-op.

That month is stacked though. Going by the general anecdotal mood on these forums I wouldn't want to be Battleborn or Homefront. But anything not named Uncharted may run into problems. Everything about that game looks like its perfectly positioned as a blockbuster.

Yeah. I wasn't throwing shade at Uncharted or anything. Though looking at it, it does kinda read like that.

Guess I meant that it's got a built-in niche community that will support both the game and the studio for years to come. Kind of like Train Simulator or Farming Simulator. Titles that fly completely under mass-market the radar, but have communities that while relatively small in number, completely sustain the dev houses who cater to their needs.

Yeah, there's no way Mirrors Edge is releasing this month.

Doom, U4, Overwatch and TMNT will do well.

The rest....Well, let's hope they don't bomb too hard. We need this industry healthy.

Uncharted 4 will be the priest for the May releases funeral.

Battleborn will be buried deep mostly thanks to Randy and Gearbox's reputation.
Doom will assist the funeral, because it will mostly miss the shower of reception bullets thanks to its nostalgic shield.
Homefront will also assist the funeral, but will be buried a weeks later.
Mirror's Edge Catalyst will also assist the funeral grateful for her 2nd chance in life.
Overwatch will be Battleborn's widow faking to be sad, while enjoying the fact that she has everything to her name now.
TMNT will not assist the funeral due to the fact that he was not invited, but at least he is alive.
Sherlock Holmes will be also buried, but he'll rise again like always.
Dead Island Remastered Collection, died but no one came to claim the body.
Valkyria Chronicles Remaster is late to the funeral, but he lives and is excited for the upcoming newborn.

No game in that list is even on the same league as Uncharted 4, maybe Overwatch for the PC-only crowd but that's it. Uncharted 4 is probably the biggest game of the year, comparing it to the launch of a TNMT game by Platinum is like comparing the launch of TES VI with Legends of Grimrock 3. Doom is Wolfestein-tier in terms of popularity at best nowadays, Mirror's Edge is niche and Homefront / Battleborn are written nuke-level bombs.

Everything is getting buried by Uncharted 4 except Overwatch PC.

Which is sad because they sent Mirror's Edge to die again, then they will say "there's no place for games like this!" when it bombs hard. Well no shit, of all the months of the year you decided to release it along with Uncharted 4.

Battleborn - Probably a miss
Uncharted 4 - Definite hit
Doom - Probably be hit
Homefront - Probably a miss
Mirror's edge - May be a miss
Overwatch - Probably a hit
Teenage mutant ninja turtles - Miss

Uncharted 4 and Mirror's Edge for me HUGE fan of both I have almost all release ME memorabilia and the same with Uncharted... my 2 favorite new ip of last gen and 2 most anticipated going into this one and its not even close for me.

I just remembered I have Uncharted 4 paid off so the month isn't as hectic for me as I thought. I'm gonna see what the impressions are on Doom and Mirror's Edge 2 closer to release. I honestly can't bring myself to buy Overwatch as a multiplayer only game.

Uncharted 4 - 10th
Overwatch - 24th.

Pretty light month for me personally. Uncharted i only play for the SP so i should have that done by the 24th and Homefront, TMNT and Mirror's Edge really interest me but not for more than $30. Doom looks to be great but it's not my kind of game and i uninstalled Battleborn after 1 game i thought it felt extremely dated, cringe filled humor and played really, really bad on PS4 and it's a little too similar to Overwatch which in my honest opinion is far superior game in terms of balance, humor etc.

So I actually thought Uncharted 4 came out this month, and I was going to have to skip it for a bit since I haven't played 3 yet.

Now that I know it's next month...

Literally only Uncharted 4, Overwatch, and Mirrors edge is succeeding here. I don't see it for doom tbh, homefront will completely be looked over, battleborn is pretty much going to get squashed by Overwatch and lol at TMNT. So overall it seems three will stay afloat.

I feel like Overwatch is going to bury Battleborn. (I'm actually having trouble keeping up with all these uninspired names.)

But who knows, maybe Gearbox has more (and Blizzard less) pull among console players than I think.

Battleborn, home front and me will bomb
Doom will probably bomb but might do ok
Tmnt will continue to sell to its hardcore audience willing to pay full price
Overwatch will do meh on consoles but obliterate everything else in terms of sales on pc
Uncharted will sell well

Uncharted will be fine.

We won't really know about overwatch since it will mainly be pc and blizzard isn't going to tell us anything.

Doom seems shaky after that mp beta.

Rip the rest.

The Battleborn beta wasn't any fun, so I wouldn't be surprised to see that bomb. Uncharted 4 should do really well.

Edit: and the first Mirror's Edge didn't exactly set the world on fire, so I don't see that faring all too well. But surely they didn't spend much money on it.
