I agree but I don't know if SO4 will have big sales on PS3 if it comes a year later, how did Eternal Sonata sell on PS3 compared to the 360?

I still expect both SO4 and TOV to come out on PS3, at least in Japan.

Same here. Square and Namco knows they can repackage the game and port it to the PS3.

I fully expect FFXIII to come out for the 360 in Japan but probably as the international edition that no one will buy because everyone will probably buy the ps3 version.

Tomorrow.

Apparently Famitsu.com is saying that RE5 is selling in "near equal" numbers for PS3 and 360.. That's extremely surprising to me. I'm excited to see how the numbers work out :D

Then it wouldn't come out, if nobody would buy it. It still takes work to produce a JP version.

Anyways, I'm not sure if I'm convinced that FFXIII is PS3-only for Japan. The Microsoft people are probably still trying to move Squeenix about this but Sony probably are pulling all their weight possible to keep it as a JP exclusive.

It's amazing how much developers have thrown their games onto the 360 when it could have probably reached about double the unit sales if it were at least multiplatform. You can argue that developing for the PS3 is expensive but bombing on the 360 in JP is also expensive. Instead what we have now is a REALLY interesting market situation where 360 is carrying key titles from key developers but still not anywhere near the PS3. SO4, ToV and LR being 360 exclusives was unimaginable a few years prior but Microsoft's moneyhats has worked its magic.

I'm now hoping that either the moneyhat contracts were time-based exclusives or that the market landscape will shape itself to the extent where developers are no longer willing to accept moneyhats to exclude a PS3 version for simultaneous release. The performance of key PS3 titles like Yakuza 3 and the obvious disappointing performance of key 360 titles like SO4 are helping to push that, and the enlarged PS3 install base from RE5 will help that as well. FFXIII may have the largest effect, but that's still some ways ahead.

I hope media create can track the sales of the FF13demobundle I like to see how many copies of advent children will sell.

I wonder if microsft have anything "planned" for April in Japan.

Yeah they did, if you ignore the other reports:
The third report is from the absolutely massive Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara (definitely my favorite electronics shop in Tokyo). The site actually refers to this as the "video game mecca."

Here, there were 8 people in line by 8:30, an hour before opening time, and all were waiting to purchase the PS3 Resident Evil 5 bundle. Ten minutes into sales, and the shop had sold a total of 30 hardware bundles, at a ratio of 3 to 1 in favor of the PS3. Looking at just software, the PS3 version was also selling better.
http://www.andriasang.com/e/blogs/anoop/2009/03/05/re5_launch_pics/

A simultaneous launch multiplat game will never sell equally on the PS3 and 360 in Japan.

PS2 5,099

One says the Wii has significantly decreased, the other says it has significantly increased, this one says it has stayed the same. :lol

But damn talk about low hardware sales throughout. All consoles (but the PS3 for this week for obvious reasons) are doing far worse then they have previously. It only seems like the 360 has made progress. (Didn't I say this last week too?)

If RE Degeneration can do 1.5 million, I can only imagine how well Advent Children Complete will do.

I thought both trackers showed a positive increase, how was last week compared to this week a significant decrease?

One showed 22, another showed 17 but last week the lowest was about 16k

Didnt we throw out the 12k as a typo of wrong number?

I don't think the GT franchise is as strong in japan as it used to be when GT3 was released. I think it's gotten stronger in Europe, weaker in japan, and same in NA

The PS3 beat the Wii for the month of February going by the NPD-defined month. 87,400 to 76,277.

Also for PS3, again using NPD-defined months, Nov-08 = Jan-09 = Feb-09, while for Wii, Feb-09 < Jan-09 < Nov-08.

GT is weaker in the US these days, too. GT4 sold a lot less than GT3 did.

I figured i'd ask here. Do we know what console games Atlus are making after Devil summoner 2? I'm hoping they finally move on to current gen development. As much as i loved their PS2 games, i wanna get excited for a totally new engine and new monster designs for the next SMT/Persona.

At least the DS und the PSP have a valid excuse of why they are down. Both are over 4 years old, one is almost at 26m, the other at 12m. They aren't on their last breath, but a slow down is more than natural.

cause all Cave lovers who sold their 360 after DoDonPachi Black Label infamous porting will buy the system again :lol

360 will overpass million mark probably during Golden Week (or before)

i wonder how many of us would have thought that 4 years ago...

That's actually better than I expected for 7th Dragon. I remember reading that one of the retailer guys who posts on 2ch said Sega was expecting around 150k for it in the end, though... I hope it ends up selling more so they don't see it as a failure! :(

Game is sooo good.

More from RE5? Seriously? Reality check, first day comparisons:

2005年01月：GC「Resident Evil 4」117,000
2005年12月：PS2「Resident Evil 4」145,000
2007年05月：Wii「Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition」27,000
2007年11月：Wii「Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles」53,000
2009年03月：PS3「Resident Evil 5」222,000
2009年03月：360「Resident Evil 5」56,000

It beats RE4 first day combining GC and PS2 versions with a year difference between them.

Also from sinobi, Etrian Oddysey first day numbers, to compare with 7th Dragon 60k:

Sorry I mean, they beat the sales of RE4, despite a much smaller install base...considering the PS2 was out in 2001

That sounds quite possible.
PS3 version will probably end up around 300k-330k and the 360-version just under 100k (I'm guessing ~80k) for the first week.
