Yeah, I really don't see Yakuza 4 making any real bump in hardware sales. It's a direct sequel to a title that was already on the system.

The first part sold more in the US alone than it did in Japan. I think it's extremely likely at this point that they'll be looking at a significant decrease in global sales, and at a lower per-unit price.
From what I can tell VC didn't really start selling well until they lowered the price.

I think the PSP move is a pretty good idea all in all.

Durante, out of curiosity, do you know what is the total LTD sales of Valkyria in the USA?
No I don't, but Anihawk gave a lower bound some time ago in the VC thread. As far as I know he is reliable (?)

Well, it sold better after the price drop, but that is generally true.

On the other hand the PSP version won't sell well (at all) in the west period, regardless of price. At least that is what I expect.

The PS3 has Yakuza 4 out, there's nothing to worry about.
The PS3 already has a Yakuza so i don't see this having much impact if any on hardware sales. Even if it did that would only be one small bump.

Maybe the PS3 will stabilise soon but the drop this week would suggest otherwise.

If the PS3 ends up selling 15K or less weekly that would surely have to be a huge disappointment for sony.

As of now, even if the Wii continues on its downward trend it's going to take a while for it to reach the lows of last year. The Wii has already sold over half of what the Wii sold in the first half of last year.
That's kind of a low bar to set isn't it? Selling better than shit isn't really an achievement. The release schedule at this point is looking worse than last year which i never thought would happen. So who knows how far it will drop.

I think nintendo will also end up selling less during the holidays this year as they won't have NSMBwii to shoot their hardware sales throught the roof.

This year might be pretty bad for ye olde Triple in Japan with neither GT5 nor Versus all that likely to come out.
You don't think GT5 is likely to come out this year in Japan at least?

Versus i can understand, but GT5?

I understand.

Sega USA thought the sales were good in the states, so I am happy.

My question is whether Sega Japan is happy with the PSP sales since they determine the fate of the franchise. If they view the Japan sales as an improvement, the franchise can go portable only (I hope not. Well, I hope not until Handhelds go into the next generation). If they see it as a disappointment, hopefully we see a 360/PS3 iteration in the future.

That's up for debate.

I'd say its selling about as well as could be expected given the lineup. And the "better than shit" is relatively in line with PSP sales and above PS3, and its not like the DS is selling 75K a week either. Nothing is doing amazing.

That is certainly possible, but at this time last year we had no idea NSMB Wii or Wii Fit Plus existed. Who knows what Nintendo has lined up for the 2nd half of the year.

No way. A PS3 version probably wouldn't have cost much more since the engine and assets already exist. So for a slightly bumped cost they'd get an extra 100-200k sales across US/Europe.

Plus I wouldn't be surprised if DLC sells better on consoles and those DLC packs were good profit for them.

I expect a VC3 announcement pretty soon for PS3/X360.

It all depends on Sega of Japan and how they view the sales:

Happy Sega = Handheld Console Valkyria
Not-so-happy Sega = Console Future

Firstly Valkriya 2 was only a Spin-Off. If you look the sony-sega conference paper, you can see the concept name was Valkyria 1937.

I think a Valkyria 3 for the PS3 is possible.

And at first VC was Skies of Arcadia 2, planned for PS3 AND Wii.

Inazuma 3...wow, given the world cup I was expecting a 2.1 with it, like the typical 3rd pokemon release you know. But directly going to Inazuma 3...damn, and I still can't look forward to (even) a vague timeframe for Inazuma 1 :/

About Valkyria, given how the PSP game looks to be aimed at (School Valkyria, more anime-like characters) and given how many nearly-main-entries-yet-labeled-slightly-different PSP has...I think Valkyria 1937 would have been a better choice. I don't think they shouldn't have done it since they wanted a quicker, cheaper Valkyria aimed at a younger (and bigger) audience to build some franchise presence...but I do feel it was wrong to position it as Valkyria 2. Valkyiria 1937 followed by proper Valkyria 2 would have been wiser, I think.

If you want to believe that Anihawk makes up numbers, because somebody from NPD denied they are leaked numbers (shocking) do it. I bet he would do the same thing and for the big list of leaked numbers that came out late last year.

I *personally* believe that his numbers are not made up. And I know the trackers can be in error (like Media Create on the Gamecube LTD sales, or that last year 360>Wii in UK gaffe). But this is still something we're taking on faith, even when it's not contested by the original source.

Having seen AniHawk's posts, the old NPD leaks (back when we used to get them around here all the time), and the spin that comes out every time we have someone leak numbers on here, I'm quite confident that AniHawk is significantly more truthful than the press releases that NPD puts out about those leaks. :lol

Anihawk has shared numbers before that were afterward confirmed by places like GameSpot when the NPD answered their sales requests.
He has also blatantly posted wrong numbers that were later confirmed as wrong by other outlets. He may make some deliberately wrong to keep NPD off his back but the end result for us is the same.

Which games was it (the one with wrong numbers) ?Can you list them ?

Is it Metroid related ? You do know about Anihawk vs Metroid, do you ?

About Anihawks Dec 2009 #, it is better for you to believe them. It contained some intentional error to avoid problem with NPD, but it is generally truthful/factual.

I don't remember offhand but I commented on it when it happened. If I could check my past posts it'd be a bit easier. No, it was not Prime related, I am aware of his bad taste.

Not really. I have been known to falsify sales in MC threads before. Me and cvxfreak both.

Is the move worth it with a lower budget and more sales in Japan, while losing MASSIVE sales in the USA and Europe? Let's not kid ourselves, VC2 could be the greatest game ever, but it will sell like crap because it is on a platform with a poor software market (in the West).
From an absolute number of sales, VC2 did better but from an install base vs sales for VC2 perspective, it did pretty piss poor...and those numbers don't include best-of sales either, right?

So hey guys. You may have noticed Garaph seemed to be in stasis. Well, that's fixed. I've just updated with the 2009 Top 100 and the last 3-4 weeks of Media Create and Famitsu data that wasn't in there yet.

The only slight hitch is that my automated cache cleaner that purges old versions of images/pages when new data arrives seems to choke on the more-than-30 games that came with the Top 100 update, so a few things may still be old versions. Since it's not stuff from recent Top 30 lists, though, hopefully you're less likely to be checking them out before they naturally die of old age.
