:) Heh, I'm not so much stealth-editor as post-the-first-draft-then-add-volume kind of guy.

I'm buying the black remote first thing in the morning and would love a motion plus with it. Can't believe my local game store denied me Monster Hunter tonight.

Wii higher than expected, since the black one is coming saturday, Donny's prediction seems really spot on.
What was his prediction again, that Wii Sports Resorts alone would increase the Wii hardware baseline on a weekly basis (from under 20k to 20+)? If yes, could this week's Wii hardware bump also maybe be related to the adverticing of Monster Hunter 3, and that MH3 is coming out next week? It is impossible to know for sure though, so maybe donny2112's prediction are pretty correct indeed :)

Weren't most of your predictions wrong so far? Just asking.
How often are people's prediction on NeoGAF (or in general for that matter) correct? Then i think of more concrete predictions, like predicting for example that a game will sell 463k copies.

I guess it depends a bit on how we define "wrong" though. If someone predicts that a games sells 463k copies, and then it ends up selling 462k copies, then this prediction might be concidered "pretty correct" or "wrong".

Just remembered that there's a special sales report in the latest famitsu issue. Its top20 LTD for Wii, PS3, PS2 and 360 respectively with numbers up to 12th July. I think the data isn't posted here yet so I share the info just in case someone is interested in seeing it (go look at the usual scans spots, don't pm me lol).

I'm guessing a 80% sell trough for MH Tri. that would mean 800K. LTD I expect it to max at under 2 mill, somewhere around 1.7M. Although if this catches on like on the PSP I guess we can expect even more than that.

Oh, I just asked that because he claimed in the past to have access to "secret sources". I just wondered how reliable his sources are (if they're reliable at all).

Based on Monster Hunter Wii and Monster Hunter 3 shop orders, I think that it is quite safe to assume around 60~70% of selltrough, meaning ~650,000 sold Monster Hunter Tri in the first one or two days.

If numbers are lower than 450-400k, that means a huge flop.
If it is above 80%, it means it is an awesome opening for a 3rd Party Wii Software.

Fun fact: best 3rd party Wii Software is Taiko no Tatsujin Wii at 588k. MH3 should easily surpass that in the first two weeks.

175K for Wii.

With YTD sales of 245K by Media Create, X360 could stop now and still have its second best year yet. #1 is 2008 at 322K.

Try the comparison as June to June, and see what it's at. 1st half 2008 was horrible for 360, and 2nd half 2009 looks to be going the same direction.

Are you sure it's not through July 5th? I know the Top 30 in that one is through the 12th, but the supplemental data often isn't through the same date. Based on some of the numbers posted at geocities that are probably from that, it appears more likely to be a week after the end of June's numbers.

Just wondering.

Edit:
After further review, the console stuff is through July 12. I don't see the DS/PSP page, though. That was the data I was basing the July 5 through date on. :\

I'm tempted to go that high. I'll stick to 125K.

Any revisions in your MH Tri prediction?

Punch Out has only done well in America, it bombed in the UK as well

My impressions always lead me to believe the nostalgia around Punch Out!! as a whole only really manifested in the United States, and they played on that a lot with this game. To the average punter it's just a cartoony boxing game where your little chappy can't even walk around the boxing ring. Also, it's pretty tough the first time you play it.

Shame really. It's probably my third favourite game this generation after Megaman 9 and Mario Galaxy.

Was it the end of year release date combined with DS fever that propelled Dragon Quest Monsters Joker to such a total?

It's just so far removed from all the other 'Monsters' numbers.

Any revisions in your MH Tri prediction?

How many Monster Hunter fans are currently on the Wii? Add 150K to that, and you get a first week number from my prediction. Based on MHG's sales, I don't think it's that many existing fans. If that's a correct assumption, than there would need to be a lot more than a 150K system boost to get to the 800K first week sales that some are predicting, in which case 175K for the Wii is a low prediction. Of course, I could very well be wrong about how representative WII MHG's sales are of the Monster Hunter base on Wii.

Yeah. I don't think every single Monster Hunter fan on the Wii went rushing out to get Monster Hunter G. For some of them it would have been the third purchase of an expansion pack of a game, just to get a demo of a game that would be coming out in 4 months. So the sales of Monster Hunter G are probably only a wee bit indicative of the actual Monster Hunter fanbase on the Wii currently.

I highly doubt that the first week sales are going to be 800k, but I think to have that high of a number there would at least have to be 200k Wii's sold. I'm expecting 550k first week for sales, 1.2mil overall, and a Wii boost to around 130k for the first week. 130k -> 80k -> 50k -> 40k -> 30k, then maybe baseline around 30k until more games come out in October. Eh... actually looking back at that, that seems a little optimistic, but I'm too lazy to change it.

Nope, seems to be a little old although minimal changes since most of those titles don't chart much anymore.

On second watch, there's some weird stuff. Wii Fit and Wii Sports Resort numbers are exactly the same but Wii Sports or Wii Play are lower on that chart you posted.

I think the chart you posted mixes numbers for the week ending 7/12 (like Wii Sports Resort) and numbers from one (or maybe more) week before. Also, I didn't see PSP/DS charts so far.

Monster Hunter fans already own MHG on other plattforms though (and MH isn't a game you can finish in some hours, so you need much time when you want to replay it). I believe you're overating the sales of the Wii port. But well, we will know on Monday or Tuesday if you're right or not.

Possibly but the chart here mixes stuff. For example Super Smash Bros Brawl is 3875 units higher in the scan, which it can't be only a week of sales, most likely two weeks old.

Here's the best I can do with the Wii one, top11-20 is really hard to see, so take it with a grain of salt (and some trust in my eyes lol).

No, I think that list is a little outdated.

yes, that list is not the one published in the latest Famitsu issue.

According to the only scan we have, MGS4 is 705,772 and Yakuza 3 is 493,032, both LTD are higher than the ones from the spanish site.

On the topic of random sales data, bttb used to post the monthly top 20/10 from Oricon (with Famitsu data), but he hasn't in a while.

I looked through May and June and so far the most interesting numbers are LTD for Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix (Ultimate Hits) -- 68,550 (LTD on Garaph: 37,178) and Sengoku Basara 2 Eyuu Gaiden (Heroes) (Playstation 2 The Best) -- 59,712 (Garaph: 27,013).

I'm sure that's mostly due to the Mike Tyson connection.

For me, the only Punch Out is Mike Tyson's Punch Out.

Oh, I just asked that because he claimed in the past to have access to "secret sources". I just wondered how reliable his sources are (if they're reliable at all).
Ok, i see what you mean. But this time he just mention that it was a prediction from him, so i guess that it was just a normal prediction :)

Try the comparison as June to June, and see what it's at. 1st half 2008 was horrible for 360, and 2nd half 2009 looks to be going the same direction.
I'll start with what I consider week 27 and go on 52 weeks; not worrying about the odd 53 week year and such:

2009-06-29

Mid-2008 through mid-2009 was 479K; about what the original Xbox sold in total.

I'm sure: Someday we will get the 1st day sales even before the games go on sale!

Weren't most of your predictions wrong so far? Just asking.

More right then wrong, my first week predictions have generally been very close with my second and third week predictions the things i got wrong the most.

That has to be the most quoted tag ever.

I expect 600k first week, but won't say lifetime, because MH sells forever... (unless the PSP version is released =P)
