Hm, whats the highest Final Fantasy attach ratio in a First Week and beyond? I've been thinking about how much FFXV can sell. Could it hit 50% attach ratio? 40%? If it manages to come out this year, PS4 will likely be in the range of 3-3.75 million right?

even assuming a 40% ratio and 3.75m, we'd get around 1.5m, but I'm just throwing numbers around. That'd be an insane attach ratio...

Final Fantasy XIII released when PS3 was at 4.28 million, and it sold 1.50 million.
That's a 35% attach rate.

I believe we will see a similar scenario with FF XV.

ok, thanks.

So using that 3.75m number that was pulled from thin air :), it'd be 1.31m for FFXV.

The FF brand was much healthier when FF13 came out, FF15 is trying to redeem the series, every release of FF13 sold worse than the last, with returns barely breaking 400k on PS3... That is not a perfectly clear indicator of FF series decline, but it is in decline. I do think FF15 will break 1 million in Japan.

Oh, I don't think that will happen. I was just looking at past trends.
Personally, i'm still not convinced of it coming out this year, and when it does come out...I see it barely above 1mil ltd.

At first, my guess was ~1.5 million.

But now... I say around ~1.2 million. I know this probabily mean nothing, but i already saw A LOT of series delined like a rock this gen. And no, i don't talk about Japan alone. I believe Final Fantady is the next...

I really don't understand how some people believe it will sell more than XIII.

And here I am expecting it to land around ~1.1m +/- 100k (depending on launch date), if it comes out middle to late this year.

The brand has eroded, past precedent for when it was a stronger brand is roughly ~35%, and the general rise of other interests in the buying population (shift to handhelds, mobile, with many RPGs and audiences therein following suit). I'd put the potential attach rate in the low 20%s.

Here updated the best selling games per platform with the newest data, including the top 100 for 2015.

Anywho, from the update of my database here are some news:

GTAV has outsold Resident Evil 6 on PS3, now the 5th all time best selling game on the system, I have it at 885.198 but the only SKU updated was the Best Price one, all SKUs combined the game is likely at 900k.

On Vita, Tokyo Xanadu and Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth both above 140k, Persona 4: Dan at 125k.

On WiiU, Mario Kart 8 outsold NSBU, Mario Maker outsold Wii Party U, Xenoblade X just below 140k, Yoshi sold 100k, Kirby just below that.

On PS4, 5 out of the 10 best selling games are western titles, Star Wars sold 200k, Witcher 3 was the leggiest game of the system in 2015, EDF 2025.1 over 80k (screw Splatoon, that's the actual success story of the year, EDF! EDF!)

Finally on 3DS, New Leaf and X/Y less than 50k away (New Leaf has undoubtly outsold it, though Famitsu will be confirming that soon), OmegaRuby/ AlphaSapphire just below 3m, Tomodachi Life at 1.8m, Dragon Quest VIII at 900k, Kirby: Triple Deluxe at 800k. On lesser games, Xenoblade 3D just below 90k, Bravely Second, well below 200k.

Also Majora's Mask 3D had no problems outselling A Link Between Worlds.

At this point I'd honestly be surprisingly pleased if FFXV broke 1m in FW sales. It's been a very, very long time since it had the brand cachet it has historically enjoyed, and the current market conditions seem generally less welcoming.

Perhaps FFXV can hopefully be seen as a step back into cultural eminence?

65. [PSV] Taiko no Tatsujin: V Version <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2015.07.09} (¥6.145) - 102.758

last numbers I had were around 88k in october iirc
maybe Minecraft success among younger audience helped Taiko to sell more copies

and more than 100k sales put an end to "Taiko V is a failure" discussion

Didn't we find out last week that it sold over 100k? Pennywise reacted to the news in that thread I think.

Seemed like a weird argument to me either way. It didn't bomb and it didn't sell great either. It's just an average performance for a franchise that has seen much lower lows and much higher highs. I doubt the publisher expected much more than that.

Yakuza Kiwami will be getting a Limited Edition Flace Plate PS4, 36.980 yen + taxes, coming out same day as the game.

Pretty sure it's not a bundle given the price.

XB1 needs to sell an average of 688 consoles per week to reach 100K this year, or 344 per week to reach it in two years according to the #superiortracker....oh dear....the big little Console that could

The original argument wasn't if it sold 99k or 101k but if ~100k sales was a good result for the franchise.

And Famitsu gave it shorter legs compared to Dengeki.

It isn't. It's an average result. It'd be a flop if it sold those numbers on 3DS. If Bamco wanted 3DS-like numbers, they would have released it on 3DS. There is value in expanding to more platforms than your core one(s) and the game did all right.

Another trailer on MH:Stories, and another trailer I don't believe is running or representing a 3DS. Some of the textures (grass and hoods) are obviously low quality, but comparing this to trailers for MHX are like night and day, and I don't think you can get that difference just from the art style.

And this still has no release date.

It'll very obviously be on NX as well and be the least surprising gaming announcement of the year.

This game could be huge, in Japan of course, but it could also start something in the west as well...you never know. Then again I thought yokai would do better than it did.

Yokai may just be a bit too steeped in culture to resonate well. It wasn't just the game, even the show never really hit it off with the demographic in the west (and its not like they didn't try, either). Even the old shows like Digimon, which were very much "set in Japan, starring Japanese things" were largely side-material to the center play of the show being "digital world" which kids can easily get into. Pokemon just takes place in complete fiction.

the original argument was the game was a flop already after 2-3 weeks

then if 100k are a disaster for the first entry in a particular platform when on WiiU is doing the same numbers after many entries, well let's change argument...

The original argument was that it was a poor performance - and it still is: 100k units is not that different from 90k units in this regard, especially for a Taiko game on a platform that can easily sustain 200k+ sellers from popular IPs, and also considering the legs it had (on Dengeki, FW/LTD ratio is around 35%).

Furthermore, I also said that Wii U entries performed badly as well - plenty of times: not only at the beginning of the discussion but also responding to one of your posts that, for the n-th time, tried to distorce what I wrote (and then of course ignore everything).

We are all lauding the performance of Splatoon on Wii U and Minecraft on Vita when everybody knows those games would likely sell two or three times as much on the 3DS. Why do we do that? Because the games are not on 3DS. The expectations are different depending on the platform.

Taiko is a big franchise in the sense that it can sell big numbers on the platform with the largest kid and female audiences. The Vita is not that platform, so the game should not be expected to reach those numbers. I don't think Bamco is releasing Taiko games on Wii U and Vita wondering how come they don't sell as much as the ones on 3DS, DS, Wii or PS2.

Of course expectations must be different: no one said Taiko PSV should have sold 500k+ units. It is also true that PSV showed to be perfectly capable in handling mid-tier games in popular franchises selling 200-250k+ units (let's remember PSV is approaching 5m units sold); plus the new audience brought by Minecraft during 2015 should have helped the game in selling better. Furthermore, legs were terrible for the IP and the Idolmaster versions didn't sell much.

This is my personal take on the performance, and certainly my points can be debatable - this doesn't mean that users can distorce what I've always said.

Mid-tier games selling 200-250k targeting which demographics? Because if it's male teenagers/young adults, it's not particularly relevant to Taiko.

Minecraft is the only high-selling Vita game targeting children and women (and it's a budget-priced game). The reality is there are really not a lot of children and women owning a Vita.

If the success or not of a title depends entirely on the demographics and user base of a console we will find many successes on Wii U that under performed at sales.

Taiko show a very big drop at the transition from PSP to PSV and even with Minecraft rise and the entrance of kids at the console it showed weak legs.

We had the famous 300k bar on DS let's not start having the 100k for Vita.

There might be some deficit in the demo department - and this might be one of the reasons why Taiko PSV performed poorly.

I remember that the first time i saw a trailer for the game i expected to be for wiiu and got quite surprised it was for 3DS. But Capcom already made some pretty great things on the platform, so, who knows. I wouldn't be surprised if they announced an NX port though.

Sorry to nitpick, but I think the word you're looking for is "distort".

Interesting to see Yoshi & Kirby Wii U claw their way up to almost 100K. I'm sure they'll hit 100K eventually when all is said and done.

Yeh the MH Stories trailer looks pretty good. Looks like a pretty high budget effort as well even as a spinoff.

Do we know how well or badly the PSP games, if there is any of them, have sold so far?

(Famitsu)

Taiko Drum Master Portable 14,593 / 100,884 (2005)
Taiko Drum Master Portable 2 14,638 / 233,267 (2006)
Taiko Drum Master Portable DX 110,242 / 312,849 (2011)

(Media Create)

Taiko Drum Master Portable ??? / 83,378 (2005)
Taiko Drum Master Portable 2 12,370 / 221,179 (2006)
Taiko Drum Master Portable DX 80,215 / 394,861 (2011)

Since Vita version has outsold original Taiko on PSP, we should expect explosive sales for the next entry!
/s

More seriously, it's worth noting that nearly all these Taiko games (apart from the first) sold well for many years after they released. For example, Taiko 2 year by year:

2006 = 44,828 / 44,828
2007 = 42,253 / 87,081
2008 = 63,263 / 150,344
2009 = 44,962 / 195,306
2010 = 25,873 / 221,179

Not saying anything about the Vita version of course because that console is in a very different position than PSP was, but still.

I'm surprised the original Yokai Watch didn't make this list.

How is possible you still have outdated and incomplete data in this thread?

Is that 250k still doable?

Why wouldn't it? The game hasn't closed neither one year on sale yet.

Tv ad for Pokkén, not new, been floating for a couple of weeks already.

Honestly, didn't expec the WiiU version to look as close to the arcade like that.

It's getting ads this early? I'm kind of surprised. Or is this normal?
Hopefully they're trying to get it to be a big seller

dunno about looking close to the arcade, the visuals took a big hit imo. Especiallyresolution and IQ when it zoomed in on Lucha pikachu made it clear

Famitsu just did an article about WiiU selling 3m, in it they list the best selling games on the system, retail only.

  1. New Super Mario Bros. U: 1.252.654
  2. Mario Kart 8: 1.183.372
  3. Splatoon: 1.154.192
  4. Wii Party U: 819.715
  5. Super Mario Maker: 773.116
Only outdated numbers were NSMBU and Wii Party U.

NSBU had sold about 35k since the last update, 20k for Wii Party U.

After a long time Odin Sphere is being released, so they await customers for buying the game.
Same for Yakuza, in this case, they pointed out the nostalgia feel of the game. They expect the game, for the next week, to have great sales.
Splatoon amiibo is again at the store, there is a limited number, though.

Takarajima Toki
They are accepting pre-orders for Hyrule Warriors Legends, and they expect it to satisfy even the Wii U owners.

Rakuten
According to the daily chart for January 14th, Odin Sphere has sold quite well during its first day.

01./00. [PS4] Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir
02./00. [PSV] Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir
03./03. [WiiU] Splatoon
04./02. [3DS] Monster Hunter X
05./00. [PS3] Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir

Btw, didn't know the Wii U Lottery Set also was being sold on Rakuten. So that's why Splatoon and further, in the sixth position, Mario Maker are selling quite well there.

^^ wow Odin Sphere is fucking expensive, thought it won't be full price, and that looks like a premium.

Thank you for your posts!
