Media Create Sales: Week 1, 2016 (Jan 04 - Jan 10)

Ōkami;192239915 said:
Famitsu just did an article about WiiU selling 3m, in it they list the best selling games on the system, retail only.

  1. New Super Mario Bros. U: 1.252.654
  2. Mario Kart 8: 1.183.372
  3. Splatoon: 1.154.192
  4. Wii Party U: 819.715
  5. Super Mario Maker: 773.116
Only outdated numbers were NSMBU and Wii Party U.

NSBU had sold about 35k since the last update, 20k for Wii Party U.
Impressive attach rates, Splatoon to be best selling Wii U title in Japan sometime in 2016.

XIII barely hit that number, I think XV will sell around 1.5-1.7m but nowhere near 2m, the only PS4 games that can sell 2+ million are DQXI and FF7R.

If only DQXI 3DS doesn't exist and we combine the sale number of all FF7R episodes.

Looks like I was spot on... Yo-kai Sangokushi releasing in time for Golden Week, on April 2nd.

Source: CoroCoro (no idea why it wasn't in the magazine itself). Price is 4 968 Yen.

Also: bonus Yo-kai in-game for players who link Yo-kai Watch 2 and Busters. Usual medal with physical copies.

Can we expect to reach the million mark even though it's another spin-off? I can see Nintendo 3DS saved for the rest of the summer, with this.

They're releasing the game two days before School new term starts? -.-

There's no way a single release of FF 7 Remake does 2 million in Japan.

Talking about that, what do we expect to sell more in Japan: the highest selling episode of FF7R of Amiibo Cloud ?
More generally, do we have sales figures for Amiibo in Japan ?

Apart from Splatoon Amiibo, I don't think Amiibo have been selling all that well in JP right?

1m for a Sangokushi cross-over would be astonishing, even considering YW popularity. We have yet to see some footage, right? The most apt comparison seems to be Pokémon Conquest, which sold 177k / 344k units; YW is really popular and I can see the game selling closer to 500k units, though. Remember that before YW:B was being released, only a few people expected to sell more than 1m, let alone 2m units.

More seriously, it's worth noting that nearly all these Taiko games (apart from the first) sold well for many years after they released. For example, Taiko 2 year by year:

2006 = 44,828 / 44,828
2007 = 42,253 / 87,081
2008 = 63,263 / 150,344
2009 = 44,962 / 195,306
2010 = 25,873 / 221,179

Not saying anything about the Vita version of course because that console is in a very different position than PSP was, but still.

You can already see Taiko PSV legs have been terrible so far - platform aside, legs tend to be shorter nowadays.

First Day Sell-Through {2016.01.14}

[PSV] [PS4] [PS3] Odin Sphere: Leifdrasir <RPG> (Atlus) (¥8.618) - almost 50%

[3DS] Card Fight!! Vanguard G: Stride to Victory!! <TBL> (FuRyu) (¥6.458) - 40-50%

[PSV] Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours <ACT> (Kadokawa Games) (¥6.272) - 40%

Previous Vanguard 3DS games sold 70k and 44k units. I expect this one to sold better than the second entry - FuRyu is surely doing moderately well on 3DS, at least.

1*: [NDS] Style Savvy <ETC> (Nintendo) {2008.10.23} (¥4.800) - 86.446 / 891.076
2*: [3DS] Style Savvy: Trendsetters <ETC> (Nintendo) {2012.09.27} (¥4.800) - 72.181 / 359.254 <51,20%>
3*: [3DS] Style Savvy: Trendsetters - Tokimeki Up! <ETC> (Nintendo) {2014.04.17} (¥4.937) - 12.522 / 105.036 <50,00%>
4*: [3DS] Style Savvy 2: Fashion Forward <ETC> (Nintendo) {2015.04.16} (¥5.076) - 58.965 / 218.490 <40-60%>

Thanks Chris for all these data.

Style Savvy 2 is really lagging behind with respect to the previous entry - I do think Style Savvy should be a one-for-generation type of game, with content expansions through DLC and enhanced retail editions (in line with Tokimeki-Up). The decline is worrying, though I don't think it can be called a bomb.

Sorry to nitpick, but I think the word you're looking for is "distort".

Thanks, really appreciated ;)

New Leaf digital sales were 200k at launch, 700k until December 2012 and 1m until March 2013. Except from direct downloads and download cards this number includes sales of the special Animal Crossing 3DS XL bundle which includes a digital copy of the game, so you have to take off a few 10ks from that Media Create number.

The game isn't very far from Wild World (5.284.718 LTD) if it hasn't passed already since we are missing many weeks of digital sales with the game still being in limited supply.

So basically, Animal Crossing is the only series that somehow managed to keep its popularity from the DS era, and didn't suffer any massive drop in sales.

According to our blog, finally Kan Colle will be released and it won't be delayed.

Expectations are not high, though.

Such a mess... Kadokawa acting like the game doesn't even exist really isn't the best strategy.

***

By the way, wanted to add something regarding that Yo-kai Watch discussion a few pages bac (about the anime).

In the US, the anime series is broadcast on Disney XD, a cable channel.
In Japan, it's broadcast on TV Tokyo, one of the biggest channels in the country (and which is free). The difference in exposure is simply massive. It's the reason the Pokémon anime is still really popular in Japan.

Then again, to have an animated series, let alone a Japanese one, at prime time on a major US TV channel would be incredible.

How is possible you still have outdated and incomplete data in this thread?

Because I typed those numbers while in work where I can't download your database but I can look at Japanltdrank/Geimin?

If you've got more up-to-date numbers though, feel free to post them!

Monster Strike is 47% off on Amazon.jp now

If mixi wasn't so tempted to go for the "OMG 1 million shipped in 2 days, WOW!!" PR spin, they could have easily avoided this. Then again, retailers should have been a bit more careful.

Indeed. Pokémon Conquest sold around 350k units. I can see this spin-off being more popular because of YW-craziness, but no more than 500k units.
