KH3 has 0% of coming to the WiiU. Its already been announced -___-, we've seen gameplay etc.
Well, we've seen a tech demo, unless there's been something other than the bit I've seen of Sora going around (IIRC) Twilight Town.

Not that I disagree with you, but I wouldn't really regard what I've seen as 'having shown gameplay' :)

I'm very curious how KH3 and FFXV will do at recouping development costs, particularly XV given how long it's been gestating. Didn't they say that there were no plans for XV-2? That seems crazy to me.

Thats not a tech demo. Its gameplay.

You appeared to be saying the success worldwide would help Japanese sales, which isn't necessarily the case (other than getting more western games). If you only meant that comment with regard to KH3/FFXV chances of coming to Wii U, then fine. As I said those are extremely unlikely at best regardless.

Notice I said that this is a mantra that has been emerging the past few weeks. I said nothing about weeks 1 and 2 for PS4. People were already concerned weeks 1 and 2, with the excuses already rolling out full force. And don't forget how raucous the laughter was when Wii U dropped below 20k then 15k not too long after launch. Everybody needs to keep perspective here.
Sorry, if I was being unclear, that's what I've meant. I think we'll see FFXV on steam before we see it on WiiU (mostly because it'll be easier to port it over)

I'm not even saying that PS4 will suddenly start selling as soon as x comes out, which how the conversation with WiiU went. I just think the situation is a bit different, there's release periods being different (winter holiday vs February), different launch titles and a different release schedule.

I think PS4 will out perform WiiU but will it reach PS3 numbers, is a different question. I sure hope for, for the sake of the Japanese market.

Okay, let me rephrase this: Back when I was in games development, there was *no* way I'd have allowed a game at that level of development to be regarded as 'representative of gameplay'. It reeked of alpha proof-of-concept-ness.

I'm pulling the following out of my ass but I don't believe Vita is taking 3DS sales so much as there's an offset between the two.

Basically, with its current library and price, 3DS has peaked in its sales and it appears that most new releases appeal mostly to the current installed base. Note that even though it has peaked, it keeps steady sales. I'm not saying it's dying, just that 50k+ weeks need to be jumpstarted, they don't happen just because the system is there.

On the other hand, Vita is coming back from a bad bout of leprosy and after much struggling, it has hit a point where the combination of its price and library is more enticing than it used to be. A steady stream of solid, if not ground breaking, titles has helped a lot in establishing that library. It's not doing gangbusters but it's very much alive, just selling modestly.
The biggest risk for Vita IMO is that most titles address the same niche and once the console has exhausted that niche, I'm not too sure where it can go sales wise. That wouldn't affect software sales too much though.
My theory is and has always been that psp and ps3 audience is not entirely gone, and in the future, the vita will be their fav platform.

I mean, a game like j stars victory.. Right now it's alreadyselling 40% of its total number on Vita. In one year it will be a Vita exclusive and sell 200k or more on it. That's logical. PS4 doesn't fill the sony young crowd AT ALL in japan.

PS4 is still trending below Vita, right? Oh well, the streams will cross eventually as Vita's first holiday season was horrific.

About Falcom, last generation they released 1 game on PS3; which came late on the lifespan of the system and was a late port; I don't know, I just don't see them as relevant in console sales.
By the end of the year Falcom will have released five PS3 games. But you're right, they're a small company, and their work won't push hardware unless a miracle happens.

I think the only 'console' that has a chance of doing well is whatever the QoL thing is, given that it is going to target the over 50s in Japan. They are a huge %tage of the population and have all the money.

I think put it badly there. What I meant is that the game sold well enough from its cult following to warrant another game in the series. Much like Deception if I might said.
Im not too sure about that, but one thing for sure is they must be hurting as having to get a title submitted / rated on a 3 different platforms is not cheap. Along with the amount of development costs which also includes QA. I wonder what kind of team did they have to undertake such a project, when we see how the game turned out overall. I could see for example a large company pulling it off but not a smaller one.

The title was obviously sent out to die, so perhaps they had already known not to invest too much in it from the start to lower the incoming damage that would be taken financially. But if thats the case, then why did they bother to put it on the PS4 also when they knew with how it looked pretty much only negative press would be generated from it as being "not up to par" with what people "think" should be PS4 game quality standards.

Unless they had Sony assist with things just to get out another PS4 title cant see them being in exactly good financial standings with the projects payoff currently.

They might have gotten away with it if it was for example on just a single platform, such as the Vita. But with 3? Thats got to be hurting.

People are forgetting to put X on the WiiU chalkboard. Sure, Xenoblade sales were not stellar on Wii (about 120k?) but the word of mouth was very good, so I would expect good sales from X.

So WiiU in Japan has MK8, Zelda Musou, Smash, X, FE+SMT and Zelda (late 2015 probably)... not stellar, but not that bad IMO.

I think Falcom released the full Trails in the Sky trilogy is on PS3 in Japan. They were quite late in its life too though.
People were so hopeful that this would be different from the PS3 and get off to a great start. Too bad. Looks like it's going to be poor sales for at least an entire year, at best.

It's weird how it looks like this pattern has effect all of Sony's latest consoles/handhelds in Japans

PS4 will be under 10k next month...
Very likely. I wonder what the baseline will be.

They're not forgetting to put it on... it's just, like, really hard to cross out.

...and some people were wondering why Sony didn't bother with Japan regarding PS4.
Actually it´s the other way around, PS4s performance is a direct consequence of Sonys lackluster support so far, their lineup just doesn´t have any strong exclusive franchises that appeal to the Japanese market yet. They didn´t even bother to develop a Minna no Golf sequel.

I thought Xenoblade sold more like 800k worldwide. And it sold more in the USA than in the rest of the world combined, despite Nintendo treating USA like an afterthought. And it was very supply limited judging by the Gamestop shenanigans.

Xenoblade sold more in Madagascar than the rest of the world combined. Total is 3 million, actually.

And all I have as evidence is my love for Nintendo.

Okay, but now the next time we can cross something out is like Fall 2015.
Haha so true. Also SE won't port FF or KH to WiiU for Japan sales, instead it's better to put that money in marketing in the west.

Actually the opposite. They've already have said XV will get a sequel.

Curious as to how the Wii U vs PS4 since launch alignment looks.

edit: looks above, to be fair MK8, SSB have not released yet, so we need another chalkboard and add MK8, SSB, Zelda Musou, X and Bayo 2.

I'm curious if the increased consumption tax will have a more sustained long term effect on sales of relatively expensive video game products.
Actually it´s the other way around, PS4s performance is a direct consequence of Sonys lackluster support so far, their lineup just doesn´t have any strong exclusive franchises that appeal to the Japanese market yet. They didn´t even bother to develop a Minna no Golf sequel.
Their line-up doesn't have any strong exclusive franchises that appeal to large segments of the Western market either. And yet, it's outperforming most historic launches.

Ok. You didn't pull it from you ass but this number is pulled from someone else's ass.
Fair enough but it's still safe to say that demand for Xenoblade far exceeded Nintendo's expectations. The fact that Gamestop was buying copies back for full retail price less than a year after launch, and selling them for higher, is proof enough.

So what you're saying is it'll be fun as soon as Sony fans realize the ps4 needs saving? How low do sales need to go before they come to this realization?
Of course it is only fun when PS4 fans start saying that sales will look bad until "game x" is released, then it will enter beast mode forever. If it is to make fun of failures in increasing the baseline, you can put every Wii U game in the chalkboard, but it is just silly.

The Wii U chalkboard is only fun because before items were crossed, lots of people were claiming after those games, the masses would flock to Wii U.

The PS4 board should contain only FFXV, KH3 and GTA6 so far. The rest is just salty people wanting vengeance.

It's behind the Wii U and Vita, but ahead of the PS3 right now. It's not going to cross streams with Wii U or Vita until at least the holidays (and I'm doubtful it will then)...PS3 on the other hand...

There will be no updates because its over.
There's nothing wrong with thinking the PS4 will turn around and beat the Wii U, it probably will, but it's kind of amusing into how deluded you are into thinking it's a given.

How much do you think Wii U will sell?
Yes and that's why Wii U 2014 LTD is guaranteed to be bigger than PS4 2014 LTD.
Well this is a given unless you mean YTD than that will be a very close battle.

According to GAF:

Wii U releases with barren launch, Wii U sucks, Nintendo sucks.
PS4 releases with barren launch, don't worry, we can't judge yet, everyone just wait for the games to come.

MK8 can push the Wii U a bit along with other games, X? B2? Zelda? then smash during winter. I can see the Wii U staying ahead of the ps4 by a lot.
