Media Create Sales: Week 25, 2017 (Jun 19 - Jun 25)

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
How did the Switch manage 37K last week if there were stock problems?

They shipped a bit more because of the ARMS release - now its back to hoarding mode for Splatoon2/MHXX bundles.

The apparent legs are more likely because the game does not need to do big numbers to stay in the top 10 right now, there is still a long way to reach the PS Vita total sales (83.816). But yeah, it's doing great, probably more than 150K combined with digital now. I can't find any trace of a Ys game selling better. The game is also being granted a translation in french for the first time courtesy of NISA, which is of course nice for the european sales :)

Nah, at the same point in its life, the Vita version charted at 22 below 3.626 on Media Create, so it's not really that, this version is actually holding better

I think that 83k includes digital (with physical being 78k) so I don't think it's at 150k yet, but should be significantly bigger than both SEVEN and Celceta which is great

So I'm guessing by the end of July we will have for 6 digits or more
Mario Kart 8 D
Zelda BOTW
1 2 Switch
Bomberman
ARMS
Minecraft
Snipperclips
Splatoon 2
Then for the rest of the year add
MHXX
Mario O
Pokken
Fire Emblem Warriors
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
????
That's actually kinda impressive for a console so early in its life honestly.

Well apart from Bomberman and Snipperclips (and maybe ARMS), that's totally expected given the caliber of titles being released.

Looking at sales for 1 2 switch and Bomberman, i think stuff like I Am Setsuna could have done really well if they had just held it for the Switch launch. Obviously hindsight is 20/20 though.

19./14. [PSV] Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition # <ADV> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2015.03.19} (¥2.400) - 2.140 / 985.899 <80-100%> (+4%)

{2015.03.19}

(+4%)

those numbers are impressive, best long seller for Sony systems ever (-14,101 to the legend)

this one, Brain Training and Super Mario Bros Famicom Mini show that games must be priced 2,500 yen
:D

And with that, FF XV has sold 1 million (physical). Famitsu + FF XV movie box containing PS4 version (13,383) = 1 million.

Could be above 400k by the end of the July, depends how it performs once big games come out.

There we go, no shareholder asked about the Switch shortages happening currently. That's why I said I didn't want to get anyone's hopes up about any clarification about the situation.

Now we have to wait until October iirc for the next time a Q&A happens.

Q: The Switch is currently sold out. What are you doing to resolve the issue?

A: We're trying to manufacture and allocate enough Switches to the appropriate markets based on demand and marketshare. We're planning on shipping 10 million by the end of the year and 13 million by the end of FY."

Not sure what else you would expect to hear unless you were hoping for exact timing for ramp up in shipments and what regions will get the most.

Where did you get that from? Because it sounds different from the one given by cvxfreak during the thread:
A3: Kimishima: Game devs flock to healthy hardware. Indies are booming. We plan to sell 10M Switches this FY; 13M by fiscal year end. cont’d https://t.co/LkihnsiycC

The Switch situation is pretty disappointing, if not expected. I just hope that it really starts to pick up in July like they've said.

Arms held decently well for a fighting game on a low install base. It still has a few more weeks in the spotlight before Splatoon 2 takes over, so I expect it to do well at least until then (if it continues to have legs after that, that will be a very good sign). And Snipperclips is a beast. I'd really love to know what it's at WW.

So bored.

At the 4k weekly sales rate the PS Vita is having, is it very likely the Vita won't sell 6 million units LTD by the end of the year?

Yeh it seems rather unlikely. It's sold 204K in half a year and barring a decent holiday, it'll probably sell around the same (aka low until holidays I'm guessing).

Oh, now I find this but the details will probably be updated from Nintendo's annual report releasing soon.

Number of Employees
5,166 (global consolidated basis as of the end of March 2017)
2,133 (Nintendo Co., Ltd. only as of the end of March 2017)

It's hard for me to know what games would be coming out for that system when it is only selling in one region.

Oh that's right, during E3 the only Vita/PS4 announcement I remember was Undertale and it's coming to Japan.

There won't be any exact details like the release date until July.

So did the predictions many people made of 4 million Switch systems in Japan alone this year seem even possible?

3 million is the absolute limit.

So did the predictions many people made of 4 million Switch systems in Japan alone this year seem even possible?

3 million is a good target (though I think it will end up above that), it will depend on how supply is allocated. We're three months in and past a million, Splatoon should see a sizable launch as will MHXX, and then holidays. We have 27 weeks remaining, and if realized volume does ramp with Fall we should enter Fall/Holiday with well over weekly 30k+ since the currently weekly mean falls somewhere around 30k (20-25k weekly + launch of a title ~40-80k).

If it just meaned on 30k for the next 27 weeks it'd end at 675,000 but that's obviously not going to be the case. In reality, I'd expect the baseline to hop up to 35-40k. And holidays will be when we see if Nintendo can really channel supply as they can potentially have 100k+ weeks.

That said, NoFrance expects 1 million for their year since they have reported (regularly now) to be tracking right along with the Wii in terms of sales. And the rest of Europe will also want supply, and the NA/US market is also a large market that wants units as well, especially into the holidays, so its going to be a very tight year everywhere!

I wonder what the Shareholders think about the shortages and failing to meet the high demand. I know the word of mouth is positive, but you ought to take advantage while the iron is hot

If I was a Shareholder, I would be pissed

Is this translation right?

I read it as 10m this FY with cumulative shipment reaching 13m at the end of FY.

It is basically the same forecast posted in April.

... I think that's a made up quote to point out that whatever they say today would just be a repeat of what they already said in March.

What are they supposed to say, after all? "We want to produce more but can't, fuck Apple, YOLO."

... I think that's a made up quote to point out that whatever they say today would just be a repeat of what they already said in March.

What are they supposed to say, after all? "We want to produce more but can't, fuck Apple, YOLO."

This was just a mere shareholder meeting, so of course we won't see sudden changes in public expectations / numbers released back in April.

I wonder what the Shareholders think about the shortages and failing to meet the high demand. I know the word of mouth is positive, but you ought to take advantage while the iron is hot

If I was a Shareholder, I would be pissed

Anybody knows the sell through percentage of The Alliance Alive?
EDIT:
Dengeki data is out. 70% sell-through for The Alliance Alive. At least it should avoid bomba bins, since word of mouth is seemingly good.

Oh damn, I should read the posts first lol. Thank you for this.

Responsible for Wii & DS phenomenons BUT he didn't predict an industry wide shortage of NAND or somehow magic up an alternative from beyond the grave so he sucks at business leadering y'all

Seems people expect Iwata to be clairvoyance to be a competent business leader lol

Honestly, Iwata sit between the perfect balance of a creator and a businessman. The problem however, is that he trapped in a group think that include someone with horrible business acumen (Miyamoto)

Thanks for posting this Okami, really interesting. How in the world did Unity and Black Flag managed these numbers? I remember seeing both games in very low prices but still... Wonder how Origin will do now.

As you said Minecraft will hit 3m soon. I wonder if in the end it will manage to enter the TOP 5 of all time in Japan.

Last, it's nice to see that Nier has a chance of hitting 400k and Horizon 300k.

What's up with this? Fate/GO CCC event effect? Was it on sale to go with it?

Maybe they should re-release them on PS4/Vita/Switch
so XSEED can pick it up for localization :p

Great result for what's just its first week, I think the Vita version digital was at around 5k?

So FY went from 10m to 13m now? That means a ltd of at least 15.7m by April 1, 2017.

It all depends, I guess. I bought in when their stock price was really low. On top of the already insane rise in value I also get dividends. Can't really be pissed in such a situation. Besides production takes time and Nintendo makes most of their revenue during the shopping period at the end of the year anyhow. Now if they can't make enough for the holidays I might change my stance. It may be different if you bought the stock when it was already high and are only in it for short term gains. But this is ofc just my perspective as a small time shareholder.

Thats interesting

Thanks for the write up. Always good to hear from an insider no matter how small he/she is :)

They also won't adjust anything until end of quarter for their actual forecasting. Up or down.

Is this translation right?

I read it as 10m this FY with cumulative shipment reaching 13m at the end of FY.

It is basically the same forecast posted in April.

I should've clarified. I made this response up based on the other answers and information Nintendo had given. I wasn't sure what other information the poster I was responding to had wanted out of Nintendo other than the info already stated.
