Why would you buy a 3DS before pricecut?
To get the 20 free games then price match when the official drop hits?

It's what I told my coworker to do since he was debating jumping on board a couple weeks ago.

Wasn't there some sort of color related thing last week?
Not a new color exactly, but something regarding some colors?

Not really sure, but I saw something about it a few weeks ago.

Queen's Blade SC isn't an ADV game, it's Super Robot Wars with skimpy clothed girls instead of robots.

PSP gained 10k because of this:

Makes you wonder how well the console could have done if Nintendo hadn't treated it like shit. It seems like only 1 software hit was needed to get back to PS3 level sales. The short lifespan of the Wii was written in the stars for years now, but Nintendo didn't really do much to fight against it.

I'm looking forward to the 3DS sales. The horrendous lows followed up by an (expected) peak will be entertaining.
The Wii climb started weeks ago due to the new WSR bundle, it's been slow but steady. Releases like Goldeneye, Inazuma Strikers and Rhythm Heaven certainly don't hurt though.

Glad to see the first week sales has increased for the sequel. Hopefully DS2 will have similar legs.
It probably won't, but regardless it's nice to see a core DS game that sells to expectations nowadays.

The exact sale? Probably not, since Play-Asia (and their distributor) is not tracked by Media Create as they are not a point of sales retailer in Japan itself. But I'm sure the sentiment is represented since the sales files are estimates extrapolated from the tracked sample, so the fact that people are interested in general reflect in the sales.

Anyone know Queen's Blade's 1st week numbers?

Garaph is down and Japan Game Charts has died, so I think we only have the database left in the OP.

The links in the OP are very useful if you remember the release date. Pick the year, then the week and there you have the M-C thread.

I'm 99% sure sales from online retailers aren't counted/extrapolated.

For example GCN Twilight Princess was estimated at 25k first week shipment from Famitsu but was given 0 sales.

Yes I was talking about his desire to buy the game being represented by other Japanese perverts fans also buying the game. The actual sale is not.

Well, that seems like a bad example, since in that case there is no base they could extrapolate the number from. It was only sold at Nintendo's online store, so their usual retailer sources couldn't report anything else than 0 sales. But without reported sales the extrapolation is impossible and it would be a wild guess at best...

Nintendo gave them the shipment, it makes sense they gave them the sales too.

Maybe this has been posted before and I missed it, but I just noticed that Yahoo now gives Famitsu Weekly Top10s per platform, no numbers though.

Why would they? Nintendo releases shipment numbers all the time, but they almost never report actual sales. Why would they make a difference for a game they didn't want to sell in stores? I don't think it's very plausible to assume that Nintendo reported the sales of TP to either MC or Enterbrain.

Really happy to see Rhythm Tengoku get decent second week sales and break the 200,000 mark. Although the Wii has been slowing down a lot, it's nice to see such fantastic games sell.

Also good to see Taiko DX still up there!

It's the last hurrah in Japan. After this, it will finally be able to rest in peace. It will be remembered by some as one of the greatest we've ever seen, by GAF and gaming journalism as poison, and by your mother as an overpriced exercise DVD.

No offense my friend, but you keep posting stuff that is just factually incorrect. Even basic research would remind you DQ10(or at least DQ collection is coming out) and Zelda are coming up.

As to back-wards price matching: I'm generally not aware of stores doing this too much in Japan

LBX still going strong. That's some pretty solid numbers for a new IP although I'm sure the anime cross over and toys are helping.

Zelda situation isn't comparable to this.

It came out at Saturday, Famitsu gave first week sales to subscribers at Wednesday, it's not the same thing with quarter reported shipments.

Nintendo never reported Zelda shipments in Japan, we would never get them if Famitsu didn't give them, it was special request and it was given only to Famitsu, not public.

Wow I was gonna laugh at 3DS numbers but, since there's a price cut next week they're actually pretty good.

Why did PS3 sell 45k this week last year? What game?

Basara 3 was release around this time last year. I would assume that's why ps3 sold 45k last year.

Wow at Rhythm Heaven. Wii does not seem completely dead now.

Schedule of Wii for next 1-2 months?
Actually, it's not that bad. There are some games that can do some nice numbers. Next week we have Epic Mickey and Family Fishing, next month we have the Sentai musou game and the DQ. There's also a Takara tomy game(so we should not consider it)

DQ is DQ. Epic Mickey have a good chance if Nintendo market it well, the sentai musou game, considering that the Kamen rider games sold really well on the wii, probably got some good chances too. Family Fishing... Probably not.

I think next week will be PSP's only opportunity to surpass 3DS's YTD. ever. I'm that confident the 3DS will be just fine moving forward at 15,000 yen

Epic Mickey should totally follow Goldeneye performance. And I hope Prope's fishing game will sell decently, at least in the 60-70k range LTD.

To be fair for the past year or so they've been having to develop and try to support 4 different consoles and provide content for. The Wii's first two years were astronomic levels of sales and a great output of software for the Wii(a great selling title nearly every month) and 2009-2010 saw good sales and still above the competition but not insane sales with an alright output of software(a great selling title every 2 or 3 months). 2011 is where things took a nose dive. There was The Last Story in January and I don't think a notable title was released until June with Wii play motion plus(which has bombed).

While the Wii definetly needed better output in general and for a system that sold so much you would've expected more titles and in particular some more higher quality 3rd party titles so I'm in no way defending the Wii's release schedule or what its library will look like at the end of it's lifecycle. However, Nintendo is only one company and especially towards the end of the Wii's life cycle where they are developing titles for 4 different platforms, I wouldn't say they treated the Wii like shit.

The thing I'm mostly interested to see, is whether or not the 3DS will be able to consistently outsell the PSP throughout the period between August 12th and November, ie without being backed up by significant software. That's obviously possible, but will be the (first) sign of good things to come after a series of slumps.

Why would you buy a 3DS before pricecut?

Retailers didnt mark the current units down? Odd. I wonder if 3DS sales will truly go to 30K levels after the shock of the new price is shown, there is still no compelling software for the device.

why would retailers mark them down when they bought them for a higher price already? They'll wait for the last possible moment before they take a hit on their inventory.

The thing is that they're really overstocked. The first couple of weeks after the price cut will be a worldwide clearance sale.
